Figured out what to do with all of the tomatoes…

Well…I was quite worried I was going to be throwing out lots of tomatoes since I just can’t eat them fast enough but I figured that out today with a little internet searching….went out to the garden and picked about 5 pounds of tomatoes, brought them inside and cut them up into pieces and put them in my big roasting pan with some garlic, olive oil, garlic powder, and Italian seasonings and roasted them for an hour and a half….after they were done, I spooned them into my blender and pureed them into a smooth sauce that tastes so darn good I am going to use some of it in the lasagna I’m making Sat…but the 5 pounds of tomatoes only made about 3/4 of a blender so I’ll have to make more…only have two flat quart freezer bags to go in the freezer and need more….so I think I’ll make more next week as the last of the tomatoes get ripe…the sauce has this smoky flavor from the roasting that is going to go really well with cheese and pasta so I’ll use some just for pasta sauce over the winter…hope I can get about 6 bags in the freezer…did some cherry tomatoes earlier and they came out good, too, but I didn’t put them in the blender and I am going to use them in the lasagna, too…can’t wait to make it….maybe I’ll put some green pepper and onion in the next batch….

Let’s talk about Texas…

Well…I know I talked a bit about the new Texas abortion elimination laws yesterday but I didn’t touch on the part that makes vigilantes of every citizen of Texas and allows them to sue anyone taking part in the abortion for 10,000 dollars…even a taxi driver that can’t know what the women in his or her cab is going to do…or even women that talks to their friends about having an abortion….now the right wing Taliban on the court have said that it’s all peachy keen with them to have the law go into effect right now since it is a “new and very complex law” and would take too long to study it…and this has never happened in the history of the court, they usually put it on hold until they have time to study it and judge it’s constitutionality but these 5 morons said hey, we don’t care if it’s unconstitutional…lets just let Texas try this out for a while…who cares if it infringes on the 1st amendment and many others…it’s just too complex for us to figure out. So this is why the filibuster has to go right now and we need to expand the court by at least 4 justices and Biden can pick real ones that will follow the law and the SC would no longer be the right wing heaven the repubs just love….geez…

September 2nd

Well….running a little late today with waking up at 6:11 but not out of bed until after 7…just can’t get started so I think I’ll ease into it today since I don’t have a schedule…I am going to roast some tomatoes to freeze for sauce base…the blender didn’t work too well when I tried it the other day and roasting will get rid of a lot of the water and when I add garlic and some spices, it will be ready for use in sauces…but I need to find a place for them in the freezer…I did get the first parts for fixing the black bike yesterday and that crankset looks pretty cool…changed from the sun tour to a Shimano and I hope it lasts longer than the last one…still waiting on the tools and chain to get shipped and can’t really do much until I get those…should be able to get another 12K miles out of it and will do the same to the gray bike once I get the black one fixed….might have to wear a fleece on the bike this morning since it is only 53 out here right now and I’ll be getting on the bike here in 15 minutes or so….it is nice that a lot of humidity is gone right now and things don’t feel damp…I wonder if I should go out to the beach later for probably the last time this year….I felt like I was in the Don Henley songĀ  “the boys of summer” yesterday when the beach was empty for the first time this summer…”ain’t nobody on the road, ain’t nobody on the beach, I feel it in the air, the summer’s out of reach”…kind of melancholy….not much to do today…just roasting and riding….more later….

Another busy day….

Well…dang, it’s been another busy day and I just finished up my work and it is 3 in the afternoon…have been going since 8 this morning with doing the grocery run, then back here to get on the bike for the first ride….out for the second ride then cleaned the bike and the chain and sprockets with dish soap and a scrub brush so I could re-lube them…then putting two coats of paint on the garage door frame and cleaning up after that….just finally got the chance to sit down for the first time today and I am a little worn out…but, it does feel good to have the frame painted…finally…and that has been bugging me since I moved in here….it came out pretty good after how it looked before with all of the peeling paint and crud on it…only 4 more to do….

Hypocrisy on steroids…

Well…damn, I never thought the right wingers could get worse but then two things happened that revealed them to have hypocrisy on steroids. With the passing of Texas’s new law outlawing all abortions after 6 weeks and the SC choosing to not intervene essentially saying that the state now owns women’s bodies and can control them any way they want…and the right wing protests against vaccine mandates that have appropriated the women’s rights slogan of “my body, my choice”….I can feel the tsunami of hypocrisy from here…I am confused about all of this…no, I guess I’m not…it’s the right wing evangelicals who have turned Texas into Afghanistan after the Taliban took over….and it is eerie how much the proclamations of the Taliban about controlling women and taking away their rights reads just like the Texas law banning abortion…I guess religious fanaticism is the same no matter what religion is doing it….and it is sick that in 2021 women citizens can have their rights taken away from them by a tiny minority of religious zealots who vote every time while our side has to have to perfect candidate of we sit elections out…that is what gave the American Taliban the state of Texas and the SC that thinks it’s perfectly fine for women to have less rights than the rest of us….geez…

September 1st

Well…running a little late today with not getting up til after 7 and I wonder what change happened to go from getting up at 5 or so and now? It’s only 59 out here and it is a little cool in here this morning but that’s okay….I was getting tired of sweating all the time and it is a little bit of a relief to have a cool breeze blowing through here…I did get some work done yesterday and have the door frame on the garage prepped for paint and will get to that in the next day or so…it’s such a pain to try to remove latex paint since it never gets hard enough to sand off….I worked on that one for hours yesterday and it still won’t have a good surface to paint but I’m not going to strip it….that’s just too much….only did one ride yesterday with mowing the lawn and I feel guilty for it…had plenty of time but just didn’t feel like going out again….and today may be the same with having to do the grocery run today and I won’t be able to get out until almost 10….and that will put the second ride back to after noon….still pretty worn out today but need to get moving soon…buying all of the ingredients to make lasagna and taco casserole today but I’m not sure when I’m going to make them…probably tomorrow since I have leftover chicken for one meal today and I do need to make a salad to try to use up some more tomatoes….more later…
