Well…damn, need to get moving in 16 minutes and get on the indoor bike to start the day and the 2 day rule kicked in from my 50 mile ride Friday…my back hurts like crazy and it is joined by damn near everything else and I do fear that my body is more easily damaged as I get older…won’t be outdoors on the bike this morning since races start at 8 and run until 11 then I’ll need to wedge two outdoor rides in before pole qualifying at Indy comes on at three…so it’s going to be a busy one today with too much to do…I do need to make some chicken masala but I really don’t know when there is going to be time today…I did sleep okay last night and didn’t get out of bed til almost 6:30 after waking up around 5….I did leave the basement windows open overnight to air it out and I even cleaned the cobwebs from the windows, too…cleaned a little more down there, too, and that needs to continue…the first people toured the rebuilt little house that is for sale at 180K and I wanted to stop and tell them to run from this neighborhood or it’s going to drive them crazy from all of the noise…and I might do that if I see anyone else looking at it…not much to do today…yeah, that’s not true…going to be running all day and I’m only one cup of coffee in….more later…

Big miles for the week…
Well…after another day of 38 miles on the bike, the total for the week is 302 miles and any time you can get over 300 miles in one week that’s a lot…all that had to happen was for my body and the weather to cooperate and they both did…and I don’t think I did any permanent damage since I’m not really sore from it so that’s cool…and I’m getting near the half way point in miles for the year with 1,470 outdoors and 1,942 indoors for a total of 3,412 and that leaves me only 138 miles to do before the end of the month…I’ll do more than that but I may be able to start to manage the riding a little better so I’ll be able to maintain the miles and not have to put in 50 mile or more days…I do still need to ride my age here in the next month or so and that will help…have never had this many miles this early in the year so it does look like the 7,100 mile goal is going to be doable…I think 38 mile days are going to be the new normal from now on since I can do them easily…we’ll see…
May 18th
Well…up at a little after 6 this morning but I did sleep okay…I think…and I have a decision to make right now…do I get on the indoor bike or do I just wait for the temp to come up and ride outdoors? It’s only 49 out there right now so it needs to come up about 5 degrees before my hands will survive the cold…still pretty sore just sitting here so it will take a little care getting moving today…another little house was rebuilt and put up for sale out here yesterday at 179,000 dollars and it sits on a 49 foot wide lot with no basement or garage so maybe mine is inching up toward 200K now…I really did buy this place at the right time…I made a bean/chicken burrito for dinner yesterday and it came out so good…very tasty and I think part of it was the Ortega taco sauce I used instead of salsa…and the grilled chicken that I tossed in taco seasoning was a good idea along with the pickled red onions…that will last me through the weekend but I am going to make chicken masala tomorrow after I use up the leftover chicken thighs I grilled the other day…need to get my propane tank refilled this week since it’s almost empty…not much to do today…just three rides outdoors and then Indy qualifying starting at 11 so I need to get my butt in gear to get three rides in before then…more later…
Figured out the coffee maker…
Well…after the coffee make screwed up last night, I really thought I was going to have to buy a new one…but today when I hit the brew later button, the time came up as midnight instead of 6am where I had it set…so I figured the power blinked last night and dumped that information…but the weird thing was that the clock was still set right along with the microwave and range…never saw that before…I did get the 50 miles in today on the bike and I was really sore and hurting on the last ride…it was so foggy on the 2nd ride that I couldn’t see Lake Michigan from my water stop bench and I got soaked just riding through it…took the rest of the afternoon off after lunch and just did some cleaning and reading sine I have books that need to go back to the library Monday…there is a big bike event going on down the hill at Heritage Landing tomorrow that I’m going to check out…they even have differing length rides you can sign up for but that’s not my style…don’t want to ride with anyone but myself…
May 17th
Well…darn, I think my coffee maker is dying…it brewed a pot this morning but then shut off and now it isn’t keeping the coffee hot…and this one has only lasted a year…guess I’ll have to get out the french press for tomorrow…I have a conundrum this morning…it’s warm enough to go outdoors for rides right now but if I start that, I’ll have to do 4 outdoors for over 50 miles today…and I’m not sure if I want to do that much work…slept okay last night and only got up once all night but still feel pretty worn out today…it can’t be that I’ve done 46 miles a day for the past three days and haven’t been eating enough…can it? Have been under 1K calories for days now and I wonder if I have the ability to eat more? Who knows? Got a lot done yesterday but I am going to take it easier today with just riding in the schedule…going to make some bean and chicken burritos later…have green pepper, lettuce, and tomatoes along with enchilada sauce so it could be pretty tasty with coating the chicken with taco seasoning…and I have chicken to make some masala tomorrow or Sunday…and I have some pickled red onions to put on the burritos, too, so it could be pretty darn tasty…and I have another red onion to make more…not much to do today…it’s almost 7 and I need to decide how to start the day…it’s funny how I started riding only 3 miles a day and that has evolved into 50 miles a day…I’m still wondering if I’m doing good for my body or using it up and will pay for it later? Who knows? More later…
Way too busy…
Well…it’s a little after 4 and I’ve been running all day since 7 am when I got on the indoor bike for the first ride…then mowed the lawn, then three rides, and just finished grilling some chicken that will last me into the weekend…going to make some chicken/bean burritos with some chicken breast I just grilled along with thighs and a pork tenderloin fillet…so a 9 hour day with another 46 miles in it and I know I’ll hit halfway by the end of the month…my shortest ride this week has been 38 miles and I think I’ll make it three in a row of 46 tomorrow if it doesn’t rain me out…and it looks like it won’t…storms are passing to the north and south right now…oh, well…maybe a little rain tonight but we are going to be 80 Sunday and Monday and then back down in the 60’s again…crap, just remembered I still have the weight work to do…oh, well…
May 16th
Well…last night is how it should be up here all the time…I had my windows and porch open and it was quiet…no damn loud cars, no assholes thinking the neighborhood needs loud music…just the birds and a little wind through the trees…and that just makes it even worse that it won’t last…that tonight will be another night of police calls and loud assholes…and three years of it is enough….damn, it’s cold out there this morning so the first ride is going to be indoors since I want to get to 2,000 miles on that bike to go along with the outdoor miles…only have about 200 miles to do for halfway to the goal…and I’m confident I’m going to get there….slept okay last night and did the conversion to summer in the bed by folding the comforter and putting the thin wool blanket my daughter left me on the bed…got out of bed a little before 6 and that has me on schedule to be on the indoor bike by 7 and then mowing the lawn by 8 if it’s dry enough…if not, I’ll have to sit here until the temp comes up enough to ride outdoors…had a nice little surprise when I found a packet of broccoli seeds in the trunk of the car yesterday and I think I’ll plant them in about a month so I’ll have broccoli all summer…not much to do today…I wonder if I should retire that saying? Once I start today, it will be running all day and I still think there is something wrong with that…but that’s me…goals, goals. goals…more later…
Is it weird?
Well…is it weird that it feels better that I have a plan for tomorrow? I’ve never been good with uncertainty…it’s like I’m executing a plan that I had to do when I was in business…I know I’m getting on the indoor bike by 7 am tomorrow….then I’m either going to mow the lawn or ride outdoors depending on how wet the grass is…whatever that choice is, I’ll keep moving forward…then using up the soup for lunch and planning to grill some chicken thighs and a pork loin filet for dinner…after I ride two more times outside…I wonder what it would feel like to just do whatever? Can I be deprogrammed at this late date? Really don’t think so but not having a bike goal next year will help…welcome to my world…it’s a roller coaster ride….
May 15th
Well…crap…just noticed I only did one of these yesterday and that is not acceptable..not sure how that happened but it won’t happen today…out of bed at 5:34 this morning and I need to get on the bike in 20 minutes so I can get an indoor ride in before I do the grocery run…it’s going to be a three store run today with stopping at DD to see if the deal on burger is true…I mean 3 bucks for 60 ozs? Has to be a misprint but it’s on the way home so I’ll take a look….didn’t get much done yesterday other than a little garden work and I am going to take it easy…for me..today…still pretty darn sore and don’t want to make that worse…my perennials at the back of the house have bloomed and that is cool…have three colors opening and it’s nice to have a little color out there…and I have a few sunflowers that have survived and I hope they get to the point that they bloom…had a possum in the yard yesterday and I wonder if it was cutting down some of the veggies in the garden? Not much to do today…need to get started soon and that is harder than it looks…and I have a big grocery list that is going to be a lot of work…I’m tired…more later…
May 14th
Well…I am so tired of being sore all the time…all I did was work in the yard a bit yesterday and my entire body hurts…can barely move my neck and my back and hips are throbbing but I still need to get on the bike in the next 15 minutes or so…didn’t get out of bed til 6:34 today and I’ll be on the bike by a little after 7…it’s supposed to rain a little later and I’m not sure how many miles I’ll do today…did 38 yesterday but to get there today will mean an indoor ride this afternoon…I really do need to clean the bathroom today and slow down a bit…have been on the bikes for 135 days in a row as of today but there is a guy on mastodon who has been riding for 1335 days straight and I’ll never get to that…but I did ride every day after I got back from the trip last fall so I guess that’s another 75 days I could add…not sure what I’m going to do today other than ride the bike…I do need to figure out the second meal today and I think it will be chicken strips out of the freezer along with some fries to go with the soup for lunch….need to get some lettuce and tomatoes to make some bean burritos tomorrow since I bought a big bag of shredded cheddar at aldis Friday….damn, my hips hurt from just sitting on the ground and sawing on the trash bushes yesterday…it did rain yesterday and will again today so the garden will be okay…not sure when I’m going to mow the lawn this week but it will probably be tomorrow or Thurs…not much to do today…just need to get on the bike in the next 5 minutes or so and get this old body moving but I really don’t want to…more later…
