June 27th

Well…I am running really late and it is all my fault..out with G for a couple and then back here for cocktails made getting moving this morning more of a chore than I like it to be…but then, I have to remember that my schedule is self-imposed and I don’t need to feel guilty about being late…but guilt is such a great motivator for me…without it, I’d weigh 300 pounds and never get off the couch…I did skip the drive with the Miata folks yesterday since I haven’t paid my dues yet and didn’t want to be a free rider…and the car museum wasn’t even open so I couldn’t understand driving there…slept pretty crappy last night since I didn’t run the air trying to save money…what a pain…not much to do today…just need to get moving an get the workout in and then get on the bike…more later…

Scalia is still an idiot…

Well…have been following the supreme court decisions that have been coming out this week with some interest and one thing stuck me with the release of the opinions on Doma and prop 8 this morning….Scalia is still and idiot. Let me explain, in striking down the provisions of the voting rights act, Scalia basically said that even though the update of the act passed in 2006 nearly unanimously by congress, the court didn’t like the formula used to trigger the act so they could strike it….but, today, this idiot, in his dissent to the ruling on DOMA said the court had no standing to decide on an act that was passed by congress…now, what the hell is it Scalia? You know why he decided the way he did in the VRA…he just doesn’t believe there is discrimination in voting anymore…even with all of the evidence presented, he just ignored it and gave those repub controlled states the okay to continue their efforts to make sure that only whites have the right to vote….and in DOMA he was just trying to weasel out of reading the constitution (something he goes on and on about) and applying the equal protection that is contained in it. This idiot should be retired or impeached….he is not the “great legal brain” that pundits say…he is just a little man trying to impose his bigoted will on the US…geez…

June 26th

Well…as you can see, things are a little out of synch this morning but I had to do the piece on Wendy Davis first while the hope and outrage was still fresh….it was an okay day yesterday…got a few things done but not enough of them…but, there is always today to try again…slept okay and with no cocktails, I feel pretty good…and I think part of it is really trying to eat more to keep fueled up…got to almost 1800 cals yesterday and am going to try to keep it up today…I never knew that eating was going to be such hard work. I did slash the end of my nose with my thumbnail showering after the ride yesterday…looks like I took a knife to it…bled like crazy and now I look pretty damaged…oh, well….not much to do today…might take a drive with the Miata club later but won’t if it’s raining…drives should be with the top down…oh, and the supreme court is going to rule on DOMA and prop 8 today but with the gutting of the VRA yesterday…I have little hope that the gay and lesbian members of our society will be granted the full rights that everyone else has….

Wendy Davis is my new hero…

Well..don’t know if you were following it or not, but a scene straight out of “Mr Smith Goes to Washington” played out in the Texas legislature yesterday where one senator, Wendy Davis, took on the republican establishment who were trying to take away womens rights to control their own bodies with a draconian set of new abortion restrictions that would have closed almost all of the abortion clinics in Texas. But, what this brave, wonderful woman did was and old-fashioned filibuster; standing up for the people of Texas who did not want this law to pass…and were incensed that the governor..ole Rick Perry…called a special session for the express purpose of taking away womens rights. What senator Davis did was no little feat, standing, talking, and taking on the crazy assed republican men who want nothing more than to control the women in the state…and with the rules of the filibuster in Texas, she was not able to sit, nor drink, nor eat, or even go to the bathroom during her epic speech…all the while staying on topic as the republican men tried and tried to use procedural nonsense to stop her. Here we have one person who took on the establishment and won, giving those of us who believe that women should make their own health decisions hope that this is a new wave, that people in this country are tired of the repubs only focus being taking away rights…not the expansion of them as has happened throughout the history of this country. So, to Wendy Davis and the people of Texas that supported her I say thank you….keep up the good fight….

Some updates….

Well…running one behind for the month so I thought I’d do a short one on some updates…will be getting to 900 miles on the bike since April this weekend…way behind last year but I got to start in January last year with the warm weather so I don’t feel too bad about it…probably won’t get to 3K this year but that’s okay…I did get the oil changed in the car today and i am looking forward to seeing how the Rotella T-6 works…only took about 10 mins and spent 25 bucks all together so that was cool….there were suicide bunnies on the trails again today and they made me laugh like crazy…and I forgot to write about the deer that was trapped in the fences that enclose the trail and I followed it for almost a mile until it disappeared…looks like the group drive with the Miata club might be rained out tomorrow…supposed to be storming all aft and I don’t really want to take the drive unless I can put the top down…that’s it….no more later…

The supremes get it wrong ….again..

Well…this looks like it is going to be a theme for at least the next couple of days while the term winds down…another bad, bad decision written by the righties on the court that strikes down key provisions of the Voting Rights Act that kept states like Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas from doing everything in their power to keep minorities and everyone else except whites from voting…and one of the reasons is that it has been a long time since 1965 and voter suppression can’t possible still be happening….well, it was more like they objected to a formula that is used to determine voter suppression but the effect is the same thing…that even though it is well documented that repub controlled states are doing their best to limit legal voting by shortening poll hours, requiring voter ID, and making sure that students in their states can’t vote there…the righties on the court dismissed these facts, handing the repubs a blank check to continue to keep legal voters from voting and allowing them to rig elections….I guess since these folks didn’t see a problem with handing an election ole GW, of course they would have no problem allowing their side to lie, cheat, and steal elections…bad, bad, decision….geez…

June 25th

Well….it was just another day yesterday and I really don’t remember if anything happened…I did get out in the sun to try to even out the biker tan but that is about it…slept okay last night and with it being a no cocktail night, I feel okay today…was planning to change the oil in the car today but it is finally storming so I guess that will have to wait until tomorrow….and I may get the day off the bike to let the legs heal so that may be a good thing and I won’t have to feel guilty about it….maybe a leisurely read of the papers today with some fresh coffee…it seems that with even being unemployed, I feel stress constantly to be doing something to find work…it is like a black cloud hanging over me all day…so maybe today I can get past it for a couple of hours and just relax…hope so…

The supreme court of the chamber of commerce…

Well…while everyone has been talking about the affirmative action non-decision that came out of the supreme court today, the real eye opener was the win by the chamber of commerce who got a decision that basically immunizes all employers from charges of sexual harassment. Essentially, what the court has ruled is that harassment by anyone other than a supervisor or manager is just peachy even if the company knows about it…so, in real world terms that means that women in the workplace, or gays or lesbians, or anyone else that is subject to this nonsense just has to sit back and take it…the company has no responsibility or legal liability unless it is done by someone in a supervisory role…I just can’t believe how wrong these guys are on every issue…and I use the term guys here because it is always the conservative “guys” on the court that believe companies should be protected but individuals are on their own…just more of the Ayn Rand nonsense that has filtered into the right these days…whatever happened to the court just ruling on the law, not ideology? Not with these folks…geez…

June 24th

Well…as you can see, I didn’t come back for another one yesterday…it may have been the heat…or the boredom…or that I just didn’t have anything to say….or, all three..or more…who knows? It was an okay day yesterday but I didn’t really do much other than meet up with a couple of people and make a little money…so, there will be groceries for another week or two…slept okay but I am tired today for some reason…and the heat really might be part of that…really have been trying to eat enough but it is harder than it looks and that may be a reason for the tiredness…was only able to get to 1400 cals yesterday and part of it is that nothing tastes good and it is almost too much effort to cook…maybe I’ll have to spend some cash and get a pizza…I will come back today for more since the supreme court is supposed to have some big rulings today and I do have to comment on them…

June 23rd

Well… sitting here watching the end of the 24 hours of LeMans and thought I’d get this done so I can get right on the bike after it’s over…it was an okay day yesterday…but, I already updated that so I’ll not bore you with more…did sleep okay but my shoulder hurts so I must have slept wrong…it is bad when you can get injured sleeping…guess I’m getting old…and I am just coated from sweating but don’t want to shower until after the ride….and I don’t really have much to do today….more races and probably a nap…and more cleaning if I want to keep up…more later…
