Well…as I was thinking about the manufactured welfare flap that the repubs are using to falsely attack Obama…I had an epiphany on ole Mitt…It came to me that Mitt doesn’t stand for anything…just winning the election. This whole thing is just a fake argument that Obama wants to end welfare to work system that was implemented under Clinton…he wants nothing of the sort…what has been requested of the feds is that waivers be issued exempting them from federal law on the matter so the governors can more tailor the programs to the facts on the ground in the various states…and this includes two repub governors…I guess these governors have gone from great supporters of states rights to socialists overnight…but you’ll never hear that from the Romney camp…it would interfere with the meme that Obama is a socialist and just wants to hand out checks to people who don’t want to work. The funniest thing in this whole idiotic attack by the repubs is that, while ole Mitt was governor, he asked for the same waiver that he now thinks is the last straw to the damning road of socialism….this man has no beliefs or core….and would have been laughed out of politics when I was younger…just shows you how far the repubs have fallen…geez…

August 9th
Well….it was another day yesterday and that makes it 4 days in a row of being good which is not such an accomplishment when you think about it…but, it does make me feel better so that is something…even slept okay last night so I feel like I have some energy today….no dreams to speak of but that’s okay….I am starting to get tired of the Olympics..all of the events seem to run together and the reactions to winning all seem to be the same…crying, flags, and other nonsense…I guess I’m going into overload but there is the women’s gold medal game in soccer that I do have to watch…but I’ll have to go out to see it…not sure about hitting a bar in the middle of the afternoon but I guess I can suck it up….other than that, not much to do today…the grocery run, of course….but it looks like it may rain and I might have the day off from riding….hope not….more later…
Welfare for the rich, courtesy of the republicans…
Well…wanted to touch on a couple of things today starting with the rush to privatization of schools across the country, especially in higher education where this privatization leads to the presidents and people running the universities making millions while everyone else takes a pay cut and loses their benefits. In a recent study, it was found that the average pay of the ceos of these private schools is an average of 7 million dollars a year…yep, that is 7 million that is paid for by you and me since the majority of their funding comes from grants and subsidized student loans paid for by the federal government. This is one of the problems that I have with the repubs, as long as the well off can suck off the government and take advantage of loopholes in the laws they are all for it, but when anyone in the middle class gets any benefit from the government, they howl about “welfare” and these people are no better than bloodsuckers that are stealing money from the rich. But, the worst part of this whole story is the fact that private universities have the worst graduation rate of any class of universities and don’t really care if their students are successful, after all, the university has already gotten it’s money and if the student leaves, it’s all profit for them. Just another case of welfare for the rich where they have rigged the system to steal from the rest of America…aren’t you getting tired of that yet? Geez…

Well…it was just another day yesterday but I was good last night so I feel okay today….another night of crappy sleep is leaving me worn out again today but I guess I’ll survive it….there was one cool thing that happened, though, they landed a Blackhawk helicopter at the Peppino’s right near hear and it was pretty loud…watched it take off, too,….was surprised at how big it was….and what poor shape it was in…looked pretty beat up with chipped paint and oil streaks….and the army folks with it looked like they were 12 or so….I must really be getting old….not much to do today….no, really, not much to do today…so it looks like the normal stuff and trying to avoid the boredom that has been rampant lately…even getting bored with the Olympics…I am really glad that gymnastics is over…the screeching of the cheers from the youngsters was getting on my nerves….more later…
There are parallels…
Well…was sitting here watching the olympics and a thought just came to me regarding the relationship that ole Mitt’s tenure at Bain has to do with how he would govern as president….while at Bain, ole Mitt gutted companies and fired people with little regard for the human toll that it took, all the while enriching himself and his rich buddies. When you look at what little detail he has presented in his economic plan (and his fealty to the Ryan plan), it appears that the same kind of thing would happen with ole Mitt as president…huge tax cuts for the rich, huge cuts to Medicare and Social Security for everyone else with little regard for the human toll of the plans…in fact I think he gleefully likes that effects….since he has no empathy for anyone other than those that were born rich like him and has shown this lack of empathy throughout his life and career. It heartens me that Obama has finally started to frame the argument in these terms, to highlight that what Romney wants to do is exactly what was tried by the Bushies…didn’t work then, won’t work now….and that the polls have started to turn against ole Mitt since he so inept at everything….what a joke…geez…

Well…it was a day yesterday and I had some fun with meeting up with G for a couple but that was about all I did….I did get the car cleaned up and it was fun driving home in the dark last night with the top down…had to put he heat on but it was still fun…I like the old school green lighting of the instruments and the weird pop-up headlights…kinda cool…no sleep again last night and I am exhausted again today…don’t have much to do so that shouldn’t be a problem….okay…not feeling it again so I’ll come back later to add to this one…and there just has to be something going on in politics that I can comment on that is not Mitt…
A couple more things…
Well…have been reading quite a bit today….okay, I do that everyday so I guess it’s not unusual…in that reading, I did find a couple of tidbits that shed some light on the effects that ole Mitt’s economic proposals would have if he were elected…first…the WAPO has a new series going on where they ask noted economists whose plans will have the best effect for the economy if implemented…so far, they have all come down on Obama’s side saying that Mitt’s plans to cut spending and lower taxes for the rich will make the economy worse….since those spending cuts will result in real job losses across the economy and tax cuts for the rich will explode the deficit. One of the other planks of ole Mitt’s plans is to continue to deregulate everything in business, but an interesting story in the Trib today shows how drug companies, in the part of the industry that is not regulated, have been stealing billions from you and me by paying generic drug manufacturers to not introduce generic versions of their cash cows…in essence colluding to fix prices…and ole Mitt wants more of this? Oh, yeah…that’s right, he has gotten the bulk of the campaign funding from this industry…I guess they are trying to ensure there is no competition in the presidential race, too. No wonder ole Mitt doesn’t want to reveal any details of his plans, stupid as they are….geez…

Well…it was a long day yesterday and I am feeling it this morning…so, I’m running late and that’s my excuse so this one will be short for now….I did sleep okay, I think, and the weather has finally gotten cooler so that is something…I did win at pool, too, but it was a hard fought match and that was fun….I do need to go out today and get some soy sauce…okay…I’m leaving now and will be back later for more…
Okay, I’m back after getting the bike ride in and washing the car…now I have to still do the glass and interior so I should get to it…the bike ride was a nice one today with the temp and humidity both down…and the bike is almost as good as it has been all year so that made it even better…it looks like I’ll be out for a while later for a couple with G so that will give me something to look forward to…okay….need to finish the car before I come back here to read more news and get another one out…
August 5th
Well…it was an okay day yesterday but I didn’t do much but watch the Olympics and sweat with another over 90 day…but, there is no global warming…to quote George Will “it’s summer!” and that’s the reason that most of the country is baking and in drought. Okay, not supposed to talk politics here…I do need to accomplish something today…but, what that is, I don’t know…I am getting ready to get out on the bike and it appears to be a cooler, glorious morning out there so I should get going…not much to do today…pool with Tom but that is about it…I will try to come back for another but I am caught up and it is Sunday, after all…
Should talk about the Olympics…
Well…it has been a day and I have grown weary of attacking ole Mitt, so I thought I talk about other stuff for a change…and, since I’ve been watching the Olympics almost non-stop since they started, it seems they would be a good topic. One of the things that has surprised me is the gaming of the games that have been going on, starting with the badminton scandal, I thought you were supposed to always try your best, not try to use the rules to avoid having to. But, that just what we got with some of the Chinese badminton players who clumsily tried to lose so they would get an easier opponent in the next round…I’m not sure they should be banned since the rules were there to be used but doesn’t anyone adhere to the spirit of the contest anymore? Then, there has been the atrocious refereeing and judging of boxing, leaving fighters who clearly won their fights the losers with it getting so bad that at least two of the results were overturned on appeal, something that is virtually unheard of. But, I still love the two weeks when the games are on..it gives me a chance to forget being broke and unemployed and root for the good old USA.
