Still thinking…

Well…still thinking about what to write but didn’t want to get farther behind so here we go…it has been good news that both Oregon and Pennsylvania have affirmed equal rights for gays over the past two days…and, they are using the ruling that I felt was important…the 14th amendment’s equal protection clause….there is no way these can be overturned unless the supreme court make up new laws again like they did in Citizens United…so, 18 wins in a row may not be enough to ensure these rights but it should be darn close….it is cool to watch the rights deniers like the national organization for marriage just keep on losing every case….and to hear them say the country is going to suffer the wrath of god with these rulings…what a bunch of backward idiots these people are….just go back to your churches and discriminate there…geez…

This is justice?

Well…not sure what is going on in the courts around the US these days, but I know I don’t like it….if you haven’t heard, on of the trendiest legal defenses that is being used across the country tries to get judges to take the economic impact or the “suitability” for jail time of the defendant when sentencing. The latest is this guy out in Oregon who got caught for his 7th DUI which has a mandatory minimum sentence of 120 days for repeat offenders, but this guy was let go with no time because the judge thought jail time would impact his business too much…yep, I guess now that the rich truly are immune to any law if it may cost them some money….just like the judge out east who wouldn’t sentence a money manager to any jail time after he stole millions of dollars since he didn’t think the defendant was “suitable” for prison when he should have gone away for at least 10 years…and you remember the defense lawyer that got a kid off in Texas for killing 4 people in a drunken driving accident by citing he was damaged by “affluenza”…being so rich all his life that he didn’t understand that there are consequences to his actions…what the hell is wrong with this country? No wonder there is so much criminality going on with the rich…they know they can get away with it…geez….

This is just sick…

Well…just ran across this little tidbit about how bad income inequality has become in this country…the top 4 hedge fund managers made almost 11 billion dollars last year…and if that is not bad enough, guess how much the 157,000 kindergarten teachers in the US made….only 8 billion dollars…so, if anyone asks you why income inequality is important, just quote them this stat….and try not to get ill while the hedge fund idiots are put on pedestals and the teachers are under constant attack by the right…this country is just so screwed up…geez…

It’s revolution day….

Well…I am trying to stop laughing as I write this but it is not easy…if you haven’t heard, today is tea party revolution day…the day where the tea party says 10-30 million people will show up in DC and overthrow the government and return to “constitutional” principles…okay, still laughing at the irony of the whole thing…that you have to ignore the constitution to save it…kinda like the old Vietnam saying that you had to “destroy the village to save it”….but, nevermind that…I just loved the screenshot of the turnout at the designated gathering point….by my count from the shot, 10-30 million people have turned into 18-20 people…unless the rest of them are camouflaged and just waiting for the right time to reveal themselves….okay…still laughing…this is just the definition of delusions of grandeur….that’s enough for now….

Go Harry…

Well…today is not much better than yesterday but I thought I’d better do something here or none of you will keep coming back here…so, I thought I’d touch on the new constitutional amendment being proposed by Harry Reid that will reverse the wrongheaded supreme court decisions in Citizens United and McCutcheon that allows unlimited dark money into political campaigns. He specifically said what we all believe…at least the sane of us…that corporations are not people and money is not speech….both of these decisions reversed a hundred years of precedent and negated laws that are really necessary if we are to protect our democracy from the corrosive effect of money as evidenced by the Kochs trying to buy themselves the senate; to ensure their dirty energy profits forever. I know that this amendment is tilting at windmills…the chance of its passage is remote at best…but the political use of championing it is necessary to put the repubs on the spot for supporting this unlimited money…and their constantly kissing the Kochs asses…geez…

Why does anyone listen to Karl Rove?

Well…ole turdblossom strikes again and makes me wonder why anyone still listens to this idiot. If you remember old Karl calling Ohio for Mitt when everyone else, even fox news, had called the state for Obama….now this abject idiot comes out yesterday and questions if Hillary is qualified to be president since she has “brain damage” and was in the hospital for 30 days last year….first, it was four days and second, the “brain damage’ was a slight concussion she got from bumping her head when she fainted from dehydration….even for the right who have hated the Clintons since Bill was elected, this is way, way out there…making up lies about someone’s health to get the buzz started that maybe she is too old and unhealthy to be elected if she runs…I think they have been watching “Doctor Who” too much since this is exactly what the doctor did to the British prime minister who just killed a spaceship of retreating aliens…but he did it with just 6 words…”don’t you think she looks tired?” Crawl back in your hole Karl…geez…

Trying to think…

Well…have been working around here today trying to get caught up on the stuff that I put off before the wedding with some luck..not much, but some…I did have a topic but forgot it..oh, maybe a short one about the Kochs again? One thing that all of us that are on the side of rationality have to do when the right tries to equate the Kochs spending on trying to buy themselves a government to the contributions of people like Soros on the left is just this: in the last election cycle the Kochs spent 411 million dollars while George Soros spent about 4 million….which of these is more? 411 million or 4 million? Are they equal? Not in any way shape or form…we on the left need to keep talking about this, this purchasing of the government by the Kochs…they are starting to flinch from the sunlight like any good vampire….geez…

The facts are in…

Well…as you know, I have been doing wedding stuff for the past few days and haven’t really had any desire to do any political stuff but today is different…there have finally been studies done on the ALEC pushed economic policies of cutting budgets, tax cuts for the rich, and deregulation, and guess what? All of that right wing conservative nonsense is just that, nonsense…and the facts are in to prove it. In all states that have implemented those policies, including Michigan, growth is slower, jobs are scarcer, and budgets are in disarray. Take the state that has implemented more of this nonsense than any other, Kansas, who trails the entire country in job creation and has a huge hole in its budget that is a direct result of tax cuts for the wealthy and business that shifted the burden to the lower and middle class. And now, who does the idiot governor Brownback blame? Obama, of course…and tax increases that are only figments of Brownback’s imagination…and the funny thing is that the deficit is falling faster than ever under Obama and the federal government ran a 120 billion dollar surplus last month. I want this moron to tell me how federal policies that apply across the country only hurts red states? I hope we can use these studies to hammer these idiots this fall…but, most of the country is not fact-based so maybe it won’t work…geez…

All the hypocrites are on the right…

Well…here we go with more kabuki theater on Benghazi…where the repubs are going to spend millions more on what they surely know is a cynical ploy to derail Hillary in 2016…all of the investigations that have been done…20,000 pages of them has said the same thing, yes, it was tragic that 4 Americans lost their lives (in ole GW’s term, there were 15 embassy attacks with 54 killed but not one investigation from the repubs) but the “coverup” or lies or whatever that the repubs think are there just aren’t….and I call hypocrites on this whole nonsense of the right’s newfound outrage that there may be politics involved….let’s go back to one example from ole GW’s term….when Cheney planted a false story with the NY times, and then he and Condi and others went on the Sunday shows saying “see, it must be true…it’s in the Times” and used the false story on the aluminum tubes to gin up the justification for going to war with Iraq…bald faced lies that Cheney and Bush knew were lies a year before they went on tv…where was the outrage then? Where were the investigations then? No where to be seen…in fact, Fox news basically said that it was in the past and it was time to move on….and now these same hypocrites want to spend taxpayer money that could fix a bridge or two on this useless partisan nonsense…I hope they keep it up, the ads will write themselves in the fall…geez…

The supreme court gets it wrong…again…

Well…I am continually exasperated by the blatant, christian leaning rulings that have come out of this supreme court…and the latest one, allowing all government meetings to be opened by christian prayers…without any consideration for those of us who are atheists, or for the first amendment for that matter…a very simple amendment that says that government will do nothing to establish a national religion or to interfere with the practice of religion. But, allowing christian prayers to the exclusion of all others IS establishing a preference for one religion over all others…something that the founders specifically warned against and something that this right wing court is doing it’s best to promote….and this latest ruling will dismantle the wall of separation between church and state that has been in force since the country was founded…and place the 30% of us who are atheists in the position of having religion shoved down our throats any time that we go to any public meeting of any governmental unit we may have to interact with…placing us in the way of unwanted scrutiny when we decide to not stand and pray with the majority…essentially forcing us to abide by the tenets of christianity or be outcasts in our own country…but, that is what the right always does…force people to abide by their interpretation of religion and country and using the levers of government to do it….worst court in my lifetime…geez…
