Well…it not a happy day when another musician that you like dies….and today it was Jack Bruce. Best known for being the bassist for Cream and singing many of their hits like “White room” and “Badge” with Eric Clapton, he also had a long and varied career with groups that read like a who’s who of the 60’s and 70’s…even spending some time with Leslie West in the group West, Bruce and Laing….not much else to say right now except rest in peace, Jack….

If you had any doubt..
Well…if you had any doubt about the damage that human activities have had on the environment…beyond global warming…you just have to look at the new study that just came out over the past few days that found that populations of wildlife have declined by 56% on average over the past 40 years…more than half of the world’s wildlife is gone in just 40 years…I’m sure that the climate change deniers will say that it is just “natural variation” and that humans have nothing to do with it…but, deforestation and destruction of habitats to continue to strip mine and harvest dirty energy is a major factor in this decline….but, we won’t learn, after all who cares if there are tigers or elephants left in wild…they just get in the way of the speed of the destruction of the planet…geez…
Just saw “The Unbelievers”
Well….in a haze of boredom, I was just surfing through Netflix and came upon a documentary called “The Unbelievers” about Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss and their efforts to promote science and reason instead of the superstition that is religion. It was surprising to see some famous people who “came out” as atheists in this film but also refreshing….people like Adam Savage from Mythbusters….Penn Gillette, Cameron Diaz, Woody Allen and many other people who have embraced the idea that religion needs to go. One of the signs that I saw in the crowd at the biggest atheist rally in history in Washington summed up the contrast…”Science flies people into space…religion flies people into buildings…” Might make that my sig line over at Kos for a while….
This is just sick…
Well…with the murder in Ferguson and the many others across this country where unarmed black men are killed by the police, I found this latest video that I saw a few days back just sick….a drunk, old, white guy is pointing his AR-15 at the cops and can you guess what happened? Well…he certainly didn’t get shot, that’s for sure…you hear the cops saying to the guy “…sir, could you please put the gun down..” and ‘why are you mad at us?” After many other “sirs” and “please”…the guy puts the gun down and the cops arrest him….but the charges were dropped the next week since he said he was sorry….I kid you not…a black kid with his hands up gets killed…a black kid with his hands cuffed behind his back “shoots himself” in the chest…but this white guy is treated like a king and even given his gun back after pointing it at the cops and threatening to kill them….this crap is just sick…and, it IS racist….no other way to say it…geez…
RIP Robin Williams
Well…woke up to the sad news this morning that Robin Williams has died from an apparent suicide….I remember the first time I saw him on Happy Days and how he just cracked me up…which continued throughout his career…..from what I understand, he fought the black of depression his entire life as I have…..what a shame….Rest In Peace, Robin….
Some thoughts….
Well…politics are looking like they are going to get going again in a little while but this one is not about politics…it is just thoughts…saw a great special honoring Neil Young last night where they had assorted artists come on to do his songs…one of the best was Ben Harper…yeah, I don’t know who he is either, with three backup singers doing “Ohio”….wonderful voice and he got what the song was about..it seems that a bunch of them didn’t get the meaning of the rest of the songs and interpreted them strangely…one of the weirdest was Josh Groban doing “Harvest moon” where he overpowered that quiet little love song….no nuance to it at all…you didn’t feel the song like you do when Neil sings it….but, it was a nice diversion in a boring night…and one cool part was the CSN came on to do a song for Neil, too…pretty neat…in fact, I’m watching them right now on AXS tv….
RIP James Garner…
Well….saw in the news that James Garner died over the weekend and that makes today a little sad…since I can remember, he was in the world that I inhabited…not in the same circles obviously, but in movies and tv….and “The Rockford files” was one of my favorite shows of all time..for so many years…Friday nights at 9 o’clock was time for Rockford….and it is funny and something that I always say is that you can be successful and a nice guy…and he was both…RIP…
And the rich wonder why people hate them…
Well…just a short one on an article that I read in one of the papers this morning about how airlines are starting to put more space between first class passengers and the rest of the unwashed masses since surveys of these rich people made staying far away from normal passengers their top priority…it isn’t bad enough that first class passengers are first on and first off the plane, now they just never want to even see anyone who can’t afford to fly first class. To add insult to injury, Delta is changing their frequent flier program to award rewards based not on the miles you fly but on the COST of your ticket, essentially eliminating any reward for anyone but first class passengers. Just like their gated communities, skyboxes, and having servants so they don’t have to mix with us poor folks…every day the rich do everything they can to make sure the rest of us know our place in the world…and it isn’t in first class…geez…
Need to meander a little…
Well…I was trying to come up with a political topic for the day and have had no luck so I’m just going to meander a while and see what happens…so, this one will be filed in misc…I am exhausted today and I can’t figure out why….possibly because I was up all night or I haven’t eaten enough…take your pick….how about some sports? Manchester United looked so bad yesterday that, even with now getting the channel that they are on, I don’t think I’ll be watching anymore this season…they just look so bad….one bright spot…not with Man U….is that the Wings looked okay last night but should have taken the game in regulation but gave up the tying goal in the last 30 seconds…but, they did finally win one in OT so it will be interesting to see how they do tonight….another good thing is that, if they don’t remember to shut off NBCSN, I will get formula 1 this spring…and that will be a good thing….what else? I think I’m going to fracture if I have to go out in any more of this crap cold weather…it’s gotten to a high of 7 today and is going to get to 7 below tonight…and it is almost frickin March…supposed to be near 50 by now and melting my trails so I can get back on the bike….damn winter….
Walmart still sucks..
Well…one of the things that has been galling about watching the Olympics this time is the commercial that Walmart has been running about how wonderful they are for planning…remember, only planning to spend 250 billion dollars to ‘revive” American manufacturing….and every time I see it, I gag at the audacity of the ad…the audacity of a company who has spent the past 40 years destroying American manufacturing by their relentless push to cut costs by selling billions and billions of dollars of cheap Chinese crap…all the while paying their employees so little that most of them qualify for food stamps and other aid that has we taxpayers giving Walmart almost a million dollars a store in subsidies. It reminds me of the old, old joke that has a murderer killing his parents and then throwing himself on the mercy of the court by saying he has an excuse, he is an orphan….that is just what this whole campaign smells like…hollow out the economy with your strategic plans, then make a big deal that you might go back and fix some of the damage that you caused…what a sorry excuse for a company, and a sorry excuse for Americans these Waltons are…geez…
