That was scary…

Well…that was scary…they finally plowed the alley and one lane on the street so I took the car out to take some due books back and pick up a few things at Meijers but I won’t be doing that again…the tires on the car do not like the snow and the car was sliding all over the place…had to start stopping a quarter of a mile from the stop lights or the thing would just go into a slide…and it was almost impossible to get moving from a stop…so, since this is my last car and I don’t want to be isolated here, next spring I’m going to start looking for some steel wheels and mount some winter tires…so I’ll have to start saving now…should be about a thousand bucks or maybe I’ll look on the Miata forums to see if anyone has some used stuff…so that means I won’t be going anywhere until the roads are dry…yow!

December 1st

Well…up and out of bed at 5;22 this morning and I would really like to get to 6 am at some point before I get up but I am enough of a realist to know that’s not going to happen anytime soon…just poured my first cup of coffee…there is another winter storm warning on for today with 6-12 inches forecast and that means I won’t be getting out of here until later in the week if I get out at all…don’t really have to go out until next week…have planned for this and have everything I need to hibernate for a week or so…might have to walk over to the library since I have books that are due back on the 9th…this is just too much, too early for winter…I really need to get more done around here today but I am so depressed about the damn snow that all I want to do is sit here on the couch and do nothing but I won’t…weight work first and then on the bike to get the rides done before 10am…not much to do today…I do have to cook since the turkey went bad yesterday and I had to toss the carcass so no turkey soup…but I have ham bones and they will end up in soup this week….more later…

Too damn much snow…

Well…just finished taking an hour to shovel the 8-9 inches of snow we got overnight and that included a drift of a foot and a half that was along my front fence…and I am already tired of the damn snow…my new neighbors asked me when they plow the snow up here and I had to break it to them that they only plowed twice up here all last winter…I think they will make the complaint so I won’t have to…we’re supposed to get 4 more tomorrow so it looks like I’ll be shoveling all week…and it’s going to be cold with highs in the 20’s…ick…

November 30th

Well…up at 4:14 and out of bed by 5:40 and I’m on the first cup of coffee that needs to work right now…we did get 5 inches of snow overnight so I’ll be out shoveling after I get the weight work and rides in…had an okay day yesterday and finally finished the 641 page Robert Ludlum book that took days and days to read and now I’m back into a Dean Koontz that should be a faster read…pretty damn worn out today and it would be nice to have a day off but that’s just not me…not sure what I’m going to do today but Man U plays at 7 and that is going to make me late for getting my work done…I did make whole bean coffee this morning and I can even taste it a little so I’ll take it…I wonder what would happen if I just sat here for a bit? Probably die but I’m not ready for that yet….okay, time to get the weight work started…more later…

New dentures…

Well…in the time that I’ve been gone from here, I finally got my partial dentures 3 weeks ago and I’m finally getting used to them…still can’t talk for crap but I just need practice for that and I don’t get any being alone all the time…think I’ll go back to reading aloud since the only way to train my mouth is by talking and I read all the time so that does help…over the past couple of days I’ve even been able to chew hard stuff like pretzels with no pain…they replaced the molars that were lost to infection and it is nice to have molars again and to not have to chew so carefully…still can’t taste anything so that is the next thing I’ll address at my yearly checkup in the spring…

Ran an errand…

Well…since it really hasn’t started to snow yet, I decided to run an errand to get the egg noodles I need to make turkey soup in a couple of days…and with the snow coming in, I won’t be able to get out of here until mid week next week…the computer on the car has gradually started to reset itself after I took the battery cable off Wed…it didn’t stall but the idle is still pretty rough but that should get better as I drive it more…already have the weight work and one ride done and I will get back on the bike after the F1 sprint race that comes on at 9…not sure if I’m going to do anything the rest of the day but the kitchen does need some work…I guess we’ll see…more later…

November 29th

Well…it’s been 2 months since I had to do one of these as soon as I got up and I didn’t remember how hard it is to get my brain working this early…had a good day yesterday but didn’t get anything done but some reading and shoveling the snow off the walks…and that will probably be the only work I get done today with the 6-10 inches of snow that is in the forecast…it’s not even December and the winter crap starts…and I’m nowhere near the acceptance that I get as the winter drags on…oh, well…up and out of bed at 5:26 today and that is a bit too early for me…but it’s been the pattern for quite a while so I guess I have to get used to it…need to get on the weight work in a few minutes to get my day started and I don’t want to…my bp was through the roof this morning so I’m going to take it again before I start on the coffee…just reading, riding the bike, and cleaning on the agenda today…and that seems like too much work right now…more later…

Broke a record…

Well…while I was doing the second ride downstairs this morning, it dawned on me that I was close to my yearly record in miles for the indoor bike…and I actually went past it yesterday…the record was 3,151 miles and the total for the year is 3,180 and I still have a month to ride…so that means I’ll get maybe another 3-400 miles in and that will get me to about 8,500 miles for the year…not too bad for an old guy…I know I’ve been pretty lucky with my health after the cancer and I really may be able to get to 80 riding my bike…

It’s going t take a while…

Well…it’s been almost two months to the day that my site went down and it’s going to take a while to get back in the swing of things…going to have to start reading about politics again and I’m not sure if I like that a whole lot…it really has been quite pleasant to not have to think about deadlines or topics but I sure did miss it…when I get an idea, there was no place to go with it…so now there is again and I’ll need to turn that part of my brain back on…it looks like we are under a winter storm warning for tomorrow with 5 inches of snow forecast…it looks like I won’t be able to not drive the car in the salt but they never put any on the roads up here anyway…just like they never plow them…I forgot to shovel the driveway when I went out and did the walks today…and I know I’ll be shoveling the alley if I want to get out for groceries next Wed and I can use the exercise…and it’s not getting out of the 30’s for highs for all of Dec so I guess I’ll have to get used to the cold a little faster….

House on fire

Well…I did mention that I had a tree fall on my power line and ripped it off the side of the house starting a small fire and melting some of the vinyl siding…I was downstairs on the bike and it went black so I came running up the stairs to hear the loud crackling from the resulting electrical short…the power line was on the ground smoking so I called 911 and all kinds of police, fire, and Consumers energy trucks showed up…and of course it was a cold, raining Sunday when this happened so getting anyone to come out and fix it was going to wait at least a day…but all of the electrical folks who I called Monday said they were all busy and it would be two weeks before they could come out…but then I discovered an unlikely company..Service Professor…who came right out and started working on it but after he was done, consumers had to come back and do the last connection and there were trips to the city hall for permits and all kinds of other bullshit…cost 2,700 bucks that insurance covered 2,450 when I have a 1,000 dollar deductible…still can’t figure that out…oh, well
