Well…I did get out to the beach today and got a little scorched but that feels good…I did get the new chair in the car but just barely and it was so damn comfortable to sit on it in the sun…the water was too cold to swim but it’s getting there and should be warm enough in the next couple of weeks…I did get to the library to get more books and read one of them this afternoon but it was a James Patterson and they read really fast…going to do the grocery run tomorrow since it’s supposed to storm all day Wed…don’t really need much but they have a lot of stuff on sale at Meijers for a buck so I’ll pick up a few things…damn, I really do hope it rains since my lawn will be dead if it doesn’t…oh, well…okay, tv time…

June 16th
Well…damn, I’m tired of being up at 5:30am every damn day…and I need to get on the bike by 6:45 to be able to get two rides in before 9 when I want to hit the library for more books…I think I slept okay but sure don’t feel like it…don’t have a lot of pain after doing 38 miles yesterday and I think I’m going to try to do that again today…it’s always nice when I put a new tire on the bike and it rides so smooth and quiet….I may be able to get the rest of the year out of this one…the last tire only lasted about 6K miles and at 30 bucks a tire, that’s not enough…oh, well…I do need to get some work done today since I didn’t do anything but cook yesterday…the living room needs cleaning and the bathroom could use a once over so I’ll grit my teeth and get on that later…my tongue is still coated and today is the last day of treatment so I’ll have them look at it again when I go in to have the threatening freckle removed on the 24th…will probably need more treatment…ick…not much to do today…just going to grind it out and get the rides in before I think of what else needs to be done…more later…
38 miles today…
Well…after getting two rides in this morning and getting back here in little pain, I decided to just check to see if I had healed up enough to get back to stretching myself a little since 25 miles a day is just too easy…so it appears I’m pretty much healed since the right knee made it to the last half mile before I had some pain on the last climb…so I’ll start out alternating 25 and 38 until I can get back to 38 every day…I had those done by 10:15 with getting started before 7 so it really doesn’t cut into my day at all…I did make chicken stir fry for lunch that should last me for the next 5 days or so…I froze the chicken for the Masala and will probably make it Thursday…just talked to my daughter and she wants to do a European trip in the spring so I need to get saving the 5 grand it’s going to cost…it will be nice to see some of the old European cities…and to hang out with her and S…don’t have any reading for today with picking 2 books last week that I’ve already read…darn…I’ll get 4 more tomorrow…time for racing…
June 15th
Well…damn, I’m sore this morning for some reason and my lower back is stiff but I have no idea how I hurt it…didn’t sleep too well last night with waking up at 4:04 and then just tossing and turning until I gave up at 5:45…yow…I really do hurt everywhere today and I may have to take an ibuprofen before I get on the bike…didn’t get much done yesterday but the bike rides and finishing up the last book so I don’t have anything to read today and that sucks…I picked up two books I’ve already read on the last trip to the library so I have to figure out how to know what ones I’ve read…I do need to cook today and I’m going to make a chicken stir fry with rice probably for lunch but I’m not sure what the second meal will be…I do have potato salad so maybe a dog since I have buns…I really should clean the living room today and get the couch cushions rotated and need to get that done before the F1 race is on at 2pm then nascar, then the indy car race at 8pm…need to pour another cup of coffee down before I get on the bike in 15 minutes or so and the means I need to get moving…more later…
Had a tire failure…
Well…for the past couple of days, I’ve had a thumping coming from the back tire of the bike and I got tired of it after the two rides this morning so I took the wheel off to look at it and find out what was going on…found a cut in the tire that must have been deep enough to get into the cords and start them breaking…which leads to the tire starting to get a bulge in it that thumps every time it hits the ground…but the cool thing was that my tube protectors I have between the tire and tube did it’s job…without them, I counted at least 10 holes in the tread that would have led to a flat…luckily, I had a new tire in the cabinet that I bought last fall and 10 minutes later the bike is repaired and ready to go out early tomorrow…oh, and later today when I’ll ride down to the “no kings” protest down the hill at Heritage Landing…I am a little curious how many people are going to show up and I saw an article this morning that showed a Target store sold out of poster board so there are a few people that are making signs…it would be cool to see a couple hundred kindred souls down there…
June 14th
Well…up at 4:44 this morning but was able to stay in bed almost 6 and that extra hour made a difference…but that puts me late for getting on the bike before 7 so I can see the start of the 24 hours of LeMans…and that will be on in the background all day since the Motor Trend channel is going to cover most of it live…damn, have only 10 minutes before I need to get on the bike and the first cup of coffee is just going down so I need to get going on that, too..I need to do much more cleaning today and I think I’m going to start on the living room first and then maybe do the dining room since I’ve let the table fill with crap that should be sorted out…feel a little slug like with only doing 25 miles a day but that’s enough for an almost 72 year old…still have leftovers for today but will need to cook tomorrow and I think I’m going to do a stir fry and then Masala Monday…I am going to the “no kings” protest down the hill at 6 pm today since every damn citizen should protest the asshole trump and his spending 50 million dollars to give himself a military parade for his birthday….not much to do today…just the rides and the races all day…more later….
The new bags work…
Well…you know I was looking for bigger trash bags to put the new chair in when I go to the beach and they just came…and they work perfectly and are so heavy duty that I don’t think I can tear one if I try…and there is enough extra room in them that it will be easy to put on once the chair is full of sand…so, I’m all ready for the beach whenever it gets warm enough to go…pretty cool…and the two bags of coffee beans came too, but I did buy the Colombian beans again since they were cheaper and came in 6 ounce bigger bags…so now I have three full bags in the drawer that should last me the rest of the year…I was able to taste the pour over I made this morning so I’m holding out hope I may get my taste back…man, that would be so cool to taste hot sauce again or garlic or anything, really…I guess I need to look at the weather forecast to plan a day on the beach…I did get the kitchen cleaned from top to bottom today and that makes me feel good…going to do the living room tomorrow and rotate the couch cushions…I did a really stupid thing and picked up two books that I’ve already read so that leaves me with 3/4 of a book to read for the entire weekend…darn…time for tv…
Fingers crossed…
Well…was just sitting here and got the idea to make some whole bean coffee since I didn’t have enough to keep me moving all day…and it has shocked me that I think my sense of tasted is coming back a little…when I got up this morning the white coating on my tongue had turned green so I think the medication is starting to work and I have 3 more days of it after today…it would be so cool to be able to taste food again but I’m not going to get my hopes up too high…but one of the effects of this yeast infection is the loss of taste and I really can taste the coffee…okay, these are words that I never thought would come out of my mouth…I’m happy with my weight…yeah, that sounds weird to me, too…down to around 170 pounds after this last checkup and, with the muscle I’ve put on my upper body, I don’t think I’ve ever looked like this…I could use to lose the little band of fat around my middle and I may keep trying to lose that but my face is pretty gaunt looking and that makes me look older and I really don’t need that since I am already really old…time for lunch and reading…
June 13th
Well…up at 5:23 this morning and I wonder what it’s going to take to sleep in one more time before I die? Feel okay, though, so I guess the results are what matters….it’s warm enough to go out on the bike right now at 6am but I need to pour some coffee down before I do…the wind is going to be a problem today with it blowing 15-20 out of the east so coming back is going to be brutal…I really like my new beach lounger and I can’t wait to use it and go to the beach but I need it to be warmer before I do…there is no temp forecast to be over 80 for the next two weeks and that is really unusual for this late in June…and I need to order the big contractor bags to put it in to corral the sand…and I’ll order those today along with coffee and a spare set of pedals for the bike just to have them here…don’t have to cook today after making the flat pizza and cooking some chicken thighs yesterday so I’ll need to freeze the chicken breasts I bought Wed and make stir fry and Masala starting next week…I feel pretty fortunate to have the problem of too much food when a lot of older folks in this country go hungry every day…and there is something wrong with that….the medicine for my tongue has started to work but I still can’t taste much and I hope that changes…more later…
Got the new beach chair…
Well…they just delivered the new beach chair and it is really nice but a little too big for the 30 gallon bags I used to put the old one in to contain the sand…so I’m going to have to buy some contractor sized bags…okay, just looked on amazon and I can get 10- 3 mil thick 55 gallon bags for 12 bucks so I’ll order them when I order the coffee and new bike pedals tomorrow…the new chair’s frame is crackle coated grey and it is very sturdy…set it up and laid on it and it is really comfortable…will probably never have to buy another one…it has built in strap handles and came with a shoulder strap…can’t wait to try it at the beach…maybe next week…and it will be easy to carry it to the water’s edge since the beach is less than half as deep as it was when they dredged the sand…and it came with a cup holder and pockets to store stuff in…I think it’s really worth the 70 bucks since I tried one from walmart a couple of years ago for 40 bucks and it fell apart after the first use…and it has three legs that it stands on instead of the two that most of them have…might be overkill but I just want to be comfortable…ooo…the pocket is big enough to hold a book so I can read on the beach…have to be careful about sunburn…very cool…
