Well…I like my new coffee mornings when I get up and smell the new pot brewing and knowing I’m going to have good tasting, fresh coffee…it’s enough to make a good start of the day and set me up for getting some work done…slept okay last night and didn’t get out of bed until 6:20 and now I’m running a little late for getting on the bike by 7:15…I guess I can get on it by 7:30 since I have to run an errand this morning to HF to get some sanding pads and painter’s tape and then across the street to DD to get a 5 pound seasoned beef roast for 9 bucks and a 1 pound breakfast sausage roll for 1.49 since I have two eggs left from last week and I can make a sausage and egg breakfast for a meal in the next day or so…yeah, I know that stuff is bad for you but I haven’t had anything like it in years so I guess I can have it once in a while…bought lots of protein this week since I got tired of chicken leg quarters and they had big ribs on sale…and I got boneless skinless chicken breasts to use in a lot of recipes…and most of them will end up in the freezer but that’s okay….I did get the insides of the cupboards painted yesterday and the second coat looks a lot better than just one….a nice smooth surface that I can live with even though the repairs weren’t perfect….and I do need to get on the upper cabinet today and use up the rest of the paint for the first coat….will need to hit depot for another gallon tomorrow to do the second coat and the doors that I’ll get started on this weekend…nope, need to do the white on the cabinets first but that should only take a day or so to do both coats…not much to do today…need to get on the bike soon but DD doesn’t open til 9 so I have time to finish my first cup of coffee before I get started….more later…
Now I remember…
Well…with all of the weather alerts that have been going on out here…I mean winter weather advisories for 5 days in a row?….as I was sitting here, I knew there was something that I was forgetting that I had read earlier in the day…another weather advisory…yay! And the only reason I remembered we are under a gale warning was when the wind shook the heck out of my house and started to rattle the porch….so, while this house is pretty weather tight, I can feel a breeze in here tonight so the blanket my daughter knitted for me is going to come in handy….at least it’s not supposed to snow…getting tired of shoveling, shoveling, and more shoveling…okay…time to shut down for the day….
The case is coming together…
Well…as more and more news comes out about the attempted coup on January 6th of last year, it appears that the case is coming together for a widespread conspiracy of over a thousand people who tried to overthrow the 2020 election…the latest news is that the DOJ is looking into the repubs in 7 states who forged elector documents as part of the plot to sow confusion and give trump and his cronies an excuse to throw out the legal electors and replace them with conspirators who would of course vote for trump. Over the past week or so, evidence has come out that this plot goes all the way to the top and the idiot trump was in on it and his call to Georgia was just part of the conspiracy…and just yesterday, the architect of the plot, John Eastman, lost his case trying to hide his e-mails that show his part in the plot and no pleading the fifth, which he has done, can’t protect him from the forensic evidence that the January 6th committee now has in it’s possession…and the evidence that the fake electors broke the law is abundantly clear and we will see charges here in Michigan that will decapitate the repub party since all of the leadership signed on to the fraud thinking they could get away with destroying our democracy…so, a few thousand shoes are going to fall in the next month and I can’t wait….geez…
Survived the errands…
Well…have been on the run since 7 this morning and it is now 12:30 and 5 1/2 hours are enough for one day…I did survive the errands this morning on the icy roads and it was so slick that I could spin the rear tires in 5th gear with the tiny little 130 horsepower in my car…there were cars and trucks in the ditch all over and the back end of my car started to slide even when I just lifted of the gas so that was a nice little warning to slow down and get in the right lane for a while…but, I will say that the summer tires are doing much better than I expected but I still wouldn’t take them out in heavy snow…but, I am going to go out tomorrow to daily deals since they have a seasoned beef roast on sale for 5 pounds for 9 bucks and I need some more painters tape from HF just across the street…I can use the roast for a lot of things and I’m going to make a beef/broccoli stir fry with it since I got broccoli from Aldi’s this morning for some reason and Meijers only had a beef/broccoli stir fry packet and not the normal chicken that I get…so, I’ll get to try something new tomorrow…oh, and I got the rest of the sink side cabinets painted today and did the second coat on the uppers…and I’ve used 2/3rds of a gallon of grey paint so I’ll have to get another one to be able to put the second coat on the upper cabinet over the stove…but right now I am going to have the rest of the coffee and figure out what I want to have for lunch…more later…oh, and I got my three free N-95 masks from Meijers today so that is cool…..
January 26th
Well….it’s a 5:44 morning today but I slept okay so I guess that’s getting to be normal…I did sleep on my right shoulder all night and the pain is shooting up into my neck and I hope it works out soon…I need to get on the bike here in a few minutes and I think I’m going to try to get the grocery run in and not bury the car…it looks like we only got about 2 inches of snow last night so I may be able to get out…have 4 stops again today and I’m going to go over to Stermberg road so I can hit Menards for some new wipers for the car since they have the same Michelin winter blades on sale that I have on the car now…and those have lasted for almost 3 years so that is a deal for 5 bucks each….then the normal stops at Meijers, Aldi’s, and depot to get more salt and filler for the rest of the windows…then back here for painting the second coats in the cupboards…it looks like I’ll use most of a gallon of the grey paint to finish up the cabinets and will need to get another one to start on the walls in a week or so…but that’s not bad at 18 bucks a gallon….I’m hoping to have the cabinets done by the end of next week but I still have two door frames and the baseboards to paint before I can get on the ceiling and walls…not much to do today…just the errands and paint work but I’m not sure how long my hands are going to hold up…I may have to take a day off to heal all of the cuts and stiffness but I’d like to wait until I have the painting done for that….more later….
Gonna need two coats…
Well…darn, after the paint on the inside of the cupboards dried, it appears that they are going to need two coats of paint to make a good finish…so, I painted the other upper cupboards on the other side of the sink so I can do both second coats and the last lower one tomorrow along with the one under the sink…then on to the one over the stove Thursday and I may be able to do both coats on that one in one day if I get started early enough….but, I don’t think I’ll get to the white paint until Monday…or maybe over the weekend…I would like to get started on the doors soon so I can start using my kitchen again although I can put the dishes back in the cupboards without the doors and that can probably happen over the weekend if I can get to the white paint by then….darn, I need to go out and do the snow again……no grocery run tomorrow with 6-8 more inches coming tonight…ick…
Georgia really hates kids….
Well…with all of the anti vaccine bullshit going on in this country, we have a new winner in the contest to kill the most kids in the US…with the backlash to the covid vaccine, Georgia has now proposed that no vaccines will be required for children at all…no measles, mumps, or rubella vaccine…no polio vaccine, no whooping cough vaccine, no encephalitis vaccine….you get the picture…diseases that killed hundreds of thousands of kids back when I was younger that have safe effective vaccines that prevent them are now being invited into Georgia in service to the rabid anti vaxx repubs who are in control there who think that “freedom” is worth more than the lives of their children….what’s next? No baby car seat requirements? How about letting toddlers ride in the back of open pickup trucks….or making the age to own a gun 1 year old? Or letting drunks be school bus drivers? That is exactly the bullshit these assholes are forcing on parents in Georgia…have they never seen the pictures of the hundreds of kids in iron lungs during the worst of the polio epidemic? I am so damn tired of these assholes putting kids at risk just to “own the libs” without any consideration of the consequences…I guess it will take one of their kids getting one of these horrible disease before they start to question if this is a good idea….I just hate these assholes…geez…
Got some painting done…
Well…the plan for today was to just wipe down the cabinets and get ready to paint tomorrow…but, I finished the cleaning up around nine and there was no way I was just going to sit on my butt for the rest of the day….so I got the paint and bushes out and got started on painting the interior of the cabinets…finished one side of the upper and lower ones and that was enough for one day… maybe…I have a lot of cleanup to do today so that may be enough so I don’t feel guilty about not working hard enough…or I may paint more…who knows? I do like how the grey paint looks but I have to be realistic that these are 82 year old, crappy cabinets that are never going to look new again…but, they are clean and that is really what I was looking for and the paint is covering well enough that I think I can get away with a single coat…but I am doing two coats of the white on the outside of the cabinets since I’ve done that on the windows and it came out good….I probably shouldn’t push my old body too hard since I do need to do the snow this afternoon…and I do hurt like crazy…more later…
January 25th
Well…up at a little before 6 this morning and had a really crappy night of sleep with the effects of the all of the dust from yesterday still making me feel like crap…and my eyes are still scratchy and I have a head that feels like it is full of concrete so I think I’ll try the nasal spray this morning to see if that will help…I am glad that all I have to do today is wash down the cabinets and get ready to paint tomorrow…I do need to do some laundry so I can get my work clothes cleaned for painting tomorrow…need to try to find the ones I used to paint my son’s house since they are pretty raggety and perfect for painting….it was nice to take the airlock plastic down yesterday and that signaled the progress I’ve made over the past couple of weeks….we did get lots of snow yesterday and overnight and I think it was over a foot which means I won’t be going out for the grocery run tomorrow…they don’t plow the streets out here and I’m sure the Miata will get buried if I try to make it out but I really don’t need to go out for anything until later in the week so that’s okay….even with the dust ingestion and not sleeping, I feel okay with getting back to no cocktails starting Sunday and I will continue it indefinitely…maybe even permanently since I like how I feel in the morning after being good…it appears that the sore on the side of my tongue that has been bugging me for a few days now may be healing…I get them a couple of times a year and it makes it really hurt to swallow but it is better this morning and that is cool…not much to do today….just going to clean up the kitchen and wipe down every surface including the walls and ceiling to get ready for paint…and then go out to shovel the snow again….and then repeat that again when it snows more….more later….
It’s nice to have my kitchen back…
Well…after all of of the work and dust and cleaning…it’s nice to have my kitchen back…or at least a little back where I can start to use the counters again and not work out of the dining room…it is going to take a couple of more weeks until I can call it done but I’ll take the little bits of progress…and know that I’m over the hump with it and can see the light at the end of the tunnel…I’m not sure if it is as good as I wanted it to be but as I’ve said before, I’ve had enough of working on it and it is never going to be perfect with the house 82 years old…I could have lived with it as it was and I did for almost a year…but it wasn’t clean and that is one thing I can’t live with…I’m not sure how much work I’m going to be able to do tomorrow…my back has started to hurt like crazy along with my hands…and my eyes haven’t gotten over all of the dust and feel like they are full of grit even though I’ve been flooding them with eye drops all day..I did forget to take some of the nasal spray allergy meds that help but I’m too close to taking a red dot for that so I guess I’ll wait another hour and then take an ibuprofen, too…this has been one of the biggest projects in one room I have ever done and I am worn out….damn, it’s going to take a month to get rid of the dust in there…just cleaned the blinds a bit and I think I have more dust on my clothes than on the blinds…oh, well…
