Well…it was an okay day yesterday but, as you can see, I just couldn’t get motivated to come back for another one…that should get better as congress comes back into session and the idiots on the right start to spew their nonsense again…I did win at pool for the first time in 6 weeks, so that was cool…but I didn’t do anything else the rest of the day except for a “Dexter” marathon since there was nothing good on regular tv….and, the Wings didn’t play so that wasn’t even an option….slept okay but was up at 5 or so…that will set up a nap for later in the day…did get a text from T that she was at the airport at 6 or so and she will be gone to the Bahamas for a week or so…or maybe two? Not sure how long…she got out of town at just the right time with the big cold coming Monday and Tuesday….not much to do today…going to get caught up here after I have coffee, and I should clean some but that will be about it…more later…
January 3rd
Well…it was a kind of nice day yesterday with lunch with T that was so much fun…and it was good to see her before she heads off to the Bahamas for a couple of weeks…it was so damn cold this morning that the car barely started and it is still 7 below right now at 9…might have to start using the plan b method of starting the car up for a while before I go to bed to get some heat in it overnight….especially for mon and tues when it is supposed to be even colder….slept okay last night but I am a little worn out since all I had to eat was the two enchiladas for lunch….back to thinking that nothing even sounds good and I feel so bloated that that compounds it…have already gained a bunch of weight from not riding the bike and I don’t like it….not much to do today…going out for pool maybe..but I’m still broke so that has less appeal….more later…
A little more sports…
Well…it was a sports day yesterday so I thought I’d do one of these about it….the Winter Classic with the Wings and Leafs was fun to watch but I can’t understand how the Wings keep losing in shootouts…one of the things that I saw during the game was that the conditions did not favor our style…we have a bunch of finesse players that really don’t play well when they have to change their game to allow for all of the snow on the ice…it was still fun to watch, though, but, I think the NHL is going overboard with outdoor games with there being something like 5 more this winter…they may be diluting the specialness of it. The other one I wanted to talk about is the Rose Bowl that State won with a defense performance that was pretty cool…and to win one for the first time in 26 years was cool, too…I was getting really tired of all of the writers saying how bad the Big 10 is and that they can’t play with the better conferences…now, if Michigan just get its act together and win one, that would be the icing on the cake…
January 2nd
Well…here it is the 2nd and I’m already behind for the year…just couldn’t get motivated to come back yesterday…part of it was that they released a bunch of “Dexter” that I haven’t seen yet on Netflix so I watched that…oh, and the Wings game and the State game so it was busier than I expected…slept okay last night but I think there is another bug hitting me since I was so warm last night…hope not…when I took the rent check up to the office yesterday I forgot to clean the snow off the air intake and it was snowing inside the car made a pretty big mess but that cleared up this morning….it was pretty cool that State won yesterday…hmmm…nope…going to use that for another one later….not much to do today…might meet up with T to see her before she heads out to the Bahamas but that is about it…I do need to do some laundry so that will be something anyway…more later…
January 1st
Well…here we go again…another year starts and I do want to use a Pink Floyd quote…”…the sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older…shorter of breath, and one day closer to death…” okay, I know…a little bit of a downer to start another year of these but it’s how I feel some times…not sure if that is the theme for today, though,…slept okay last night and it is still neat that the upstairs furnace is quiet…I think the constant noise was adding to my stress level and the peace is doing the opposite…had an okay day yesterday with hockey all day and then just vegging for the night and it looks like more of the same today…the Wings play outdoors and then State is in the Rose bowl so I will have some things to do…other than that, just going to cook and hang out…and do one more of these today…don’t want to get behind….more later…
Last one for the year….
Well..sitting here waiting for the second alumni game to start and thought I’d get to the last one for the year…most people would do a look back at the year and have some deep, reflective thoughts to share…but, that’s not me at this point..I can sum up this year pretty easily…I turned 60…still unemployed…still healthy…car’s still running good other than the wheel bearing…and, it still makes me smile when I drive it…it’s been an okay year…would like to be working but I am taking the day off from worrying about it to just enjoy a day for the first time in a long time….so, I think I’m going to do that, head for the couch, open the spinach dip, and just watch tv and veg…may be back later for more but don’t count on it….after all, I did over 700 of these this year and you should be getting tired of reading them…if not, that’s pretty cool…
Cheating away….
Well…sitting here waiting for the Wings alumni game to start and thought I’d do a short one on a death that happened in the past couple of weeks…and, I know, it’s cheating but I forgot to put this in this morning’s post. While I was reading the paper, I came across one of those lists of people who have died this year, and found a surprise…you probably don’t know who he is, but Ricky Lawson died last week…he was a drummer for a long time with Steely Dan and many other bands over his career and I saw him with SD quite a few times…always a smile on his face and a style that just fit them…now, he’s gone in his fifties and that is just too damn early….
December 31st
Well…it was a long day yesterday and I already updated you about the interview so I won’t do that again here…one good thing that happened was that the furnace in the unit above me stopped making the howling noise that it has been making for the past year…I can even sleep without ear plugs again…and with the constant background noise being gone, my place seem peaceful again….slept okay last night but was up at 5:30 again…not going to complain about that, though, since I really don’t have anything to do today but stuff around here and that means this aft will be a prime nap time while the Wings alumni games are on…I do have the other front wheel bearing going bad…started last night…but I won’t fix that until next month since I want to keep the record of only 20 bucks for an entire year of car repairs….not much to do today…I guess the only thing I really need to do is 2 more of these to make the goal for the year so there is going to be some filler….just being honest…more later…
Just an update…
Well…did the interview this morning and it was a little confusing to say the least…the folks that were doing the interview just sat there like lumps and really didn’t have any pertinent questions to ask…I tried to draw them out with comments that should have steered them to the questions but no luck…and then, at the end of the interview, they basically said that they wanted an engineer with an engineering degree…so, why the heck did they call me and waste my time? Oh, well…it was okay to get out and have an interview for the first time in a long while…and I got to wear my suit and looked good….oh, well…
December 30th
Well..it was just another boring day yesterday that I spent prepping for the interview this morning…have to be there in an hour and a half so this one is going to be short…slept for crap last night but I expected it so no surprise….the furnace in the unit above has stopped making the howling noise it has been doing for the past year and it is just weird that it is quiet…might even be able to not wear earplugs anymore….other than the interview, not much to do today…going to stop at the grocery store to pick up cocktail materials for the Griffins game outdoor tonight and have some relaxation…more later…
