Well…it’s almost 8:30 and I’m still sitting here waiting out the rain….it looks like it is going to be raining for an hour or so and that is going to put me so late for getting things done today that I’m vibrating while I wait to get started…I can’t remember the last time I’ve had to wait in the morning…was supposed to yesterday but the rain never came so I was able to get out on the bike twice before 10…but that is not going to happen today…and I need to stop whining about it…you would think that at my advanced age I would know how to relax and just take the day as it comes but I can’t…will only riding once kill me? It may…who knows? I do know that I don’t like just sitting here….more later….
August 8th
Well…hmmm…another 5:38 morning today and I wonder if that will ever change? It’s raining out there…yay! So I have an hour or so to just sit here and that’s harder than it looks….one of these days I’m going to take a day off the bike but I don’t think it will be today….need to burn those calories and keep losing weight so I can get to the goal of 170 in the next couple of months….had a wasted day yesterday where I only did the rides and nothing else and that is a little disappointing for me…I have work to do but just didn’t want to do it….but I will get the lawn mowed today after the rain and bike rides and may even clean some around here…I sure hope the damn humidity goes down some after the rain comes through…have been sweating for the past 5 days and I am getting tired of it…and I’ve had to run the fan in here all day just to make it tolerable and that gets tiring, too….not sure if I’ll get out to the beach today since I can’t get motivated for anything right now but we’ll see…..not much to do today…I really wish I could just relax for a day and have coffee and sit on the porch for a bit but that is not going to happen…I think I will read some news out there in a minute and just listen to the rain…but not for the whole day…too much to do and not enough time to do it…..more later….
The repubs just voted to let Americans die…
Well…just when you think that the repubs can’t be any worse people, they dig deeper and become even bigger assholes. Just last night, as the voting goes on about the huge inflation control bill, an amendment was put forward by the dems that would cap the cost of insulin at 35 bucks a month for anyone with private insurance…and guess how many repubs voted against it and for killing Americans who can’t afford the thousand bucks a month that insulin can cost? Yep…47 of them…47 repub senators think that it is just peachy that insulin that costs 5 bucks to make can cost so much that diabetics have to choose between eating and their life saving medicine…and at those costs, many, many diabetics report having to take less than prescribed since it just costs so damn much…but the repubs don’t care and the only reason they voted against it is that the won’t give Biden a “win” by helping people stay alive…they are perfectly okay with people dying just to spite the dems…what a bunch of assholes…that’s the only word for it…vote dem this fall and let’s get some good stuff done for the country…and cap the cost of insulin if we can keep congress…vote…
August 7th
Well…damn, have a decision to make right now….do I go out on the bike and try to get a ride in before the rain or do I take the day off? I think it’s going to be over an hour before it gets here and then I could have a ride in before ManU plays at 9 but I really don’t want to hurry right now…hmmmm….had an okay day yesterday but didn’t do much but the bike rides…I did pick my first big tomato and ate it with some chips last night and it was pretty good…but, I am so disappointed with the garden this year that I am contemplating just pulling everything up and starting over next year….not many tomatoes and they are all pretty small so I think I need to condition the soil more before I plant again….didn’t sleep for crap last night and I’m feeling it today but that seems to be the pattern that has extended for weeks now and I’m not sure what to do about it….damn, I wish it would rain right now so I don’t have to decide whether to ride or not….not much to do today….ride or not? Yeah, you know the answer to that….going to get moving and get on the bike right now so I’ll be back here to see ManU…but the rest of the day is going to be total veg…I hope, I could use the rest….more later…
Damn squirrels…
Well…while I was out on the second ride today, the damn squirrels attacked my last big sunflower and killed it…so this means war on the brown squirrels that are big, fat bullies that terrorize the black and grey squirrels…think I’m going to get a wrist rocket sling shot and start shooting at them whenever they are in the yard…won’t kill them but it will hurt if I hit them but I will need to buy some steel shot since I don’t have any rocks around here…I wonder if there are any along the shore of the lake that would be the right size? Whatever I have to do I will to get rid of those parasites…..just hate them….
People on the street…
Well…as I ride around here every day, I start to notice some people who are almost as invisible as I am and I wonder what their stories are…over the past month or so, there was a been a woman living in her car at the municipal boat ramp on Muskegon Lake…she has an old, mid 90’s Monte Carlo that she parks next to the porta john and I do wonder how she got to that point in her life…and what it must be like to just survive instead of live and have a roof over your head…I know there are others who use the trails as their home but all of them are men and I wonder if it’s a choice or if circumstances have conspired to leave them no choice….one other guy that I’ve noticed for the past few weeks parks his car at the ramp and sits there for hours just reading…he’s there when I go out at 7 and when I come back for the second time around 10…so I wonder what his home situation is like if he spends 3-4 hours every day sweating in a hot car and that is the better choice? It reminds me of a line in a Neil Young song: “people on the street need a place to go” and I guess they do….especially in winter…what then?
August 6th
Well…damn, another 4:58 morning and I am pretty worn out from it…especially when you start with a max of 6 hours of sleep possible and then take an hour to get to sleep and toss and turn all night….oh, well…had an okay day yesterday but didn’t get much done since I decided to not mow the lawn until Monday or Tuesday after the rain that is forecast…okay, here is where I normally insert a laugh after I talk about rain but it’s not that funny anymore….I need a day off…but I’m going to get on the bike here in a few minutes but I don’t want to…just damn tired…I did get out to the beach for 5 days in a row yesterday and my skin is going to thank me for the rest it is going to get the next two days….it is going to be hot out here with the high near 90 the next two days and it is even going to be 75 for a low so I may have to run the ac tonight to be able to sleep at all…I think I’ve only run it twice all summer but it’s nice to have the option….I can’t wait to get the first big tomatoes off my plants and that should be early next week since I have a few ripening but still don’t have a lot of tomatoes on the plants…the garden has been a bust this year but I do have nice flowers along the back of the house so I guess that’s something….not much to do today….just the rides and a little cleaning if I can get motivated but that looks iffy right now….damn, the only thing I don’t like is all the sand that gets everywhere from the beach runs….even after a shower yesterday, I still had sand in my toes that lasted til late in the day….and it was in my bootie socks that I washed so I guess I’ll have to turn them inside out before I put them in the washer…I want a day off…..more later….
First tomato from my garden…
Well…just picked and had the first tomato from my garden today…but that is a good 6 weeks later than they were last year and it was only one little cherry tomato…and the weird thing is that the other 6 that are in that bunch show no hint of pink at all so they won’t be ripe for weeks yet…I do have some regular tomatoes that have started to ripen but I can’t believe how small they are even with feeding the heck out of them…but I do have 4 cukes when I expected to have none this year since the vines were all pretty sickly earlier in the summer and I can’t wait to make some home made pickles when they are ready….can’t wait to slice a few tomatoes and have them with salt, pepper, and tortilla chips for a meal…I can use the vitamins and fiber…..need a different approach to the garden next year to make bigger tomatoes and get some peppers going early….I still have jalpenos in the freezer so I can survive until next year…
Any other president…
Well…with the astonishing jobs numbers that came out today, any other president would be carried around on people’s shoulders with parades thrown in his honor…but with Biden? Nothing…and his approval ratings are still in the tank…so what’s the deal? Look, the economy was predicted to add about 25k jobs with the fed trying to slow down the economy to tame inflation but employers added 528K and the unemployment rate is down to 3.5%…so where’s the recession? Jobs should be dropping if we are in a recession as employers look out a ways and see the slowdown…and it still may happen in a few months but not now. It appears that another huge bill is going to pass, too, to go along with infrastructure, gun control, and all of the others that Biden has gotten done and yet no one gives him any credit for it…again, if any other president had gotten all of this done in his first two years…including getting the #1 of al queada just this week, his numbers would be in the 70’s and I still think part of it is the media still both siding everything and the lack of the dems getting the message out…most people still don’t think Biden has gotten anything done and that has to change…and we only have 3 months to do it before the mid terms…got on it dems…geez…
August 5th
Well…another 5 am morning but I was able to stay in bed until almost 6:30 and I’m not sure if that is a win or not…don’t feel like it is and all I want to do is go back to bed…but, I won’t since i need to get on the bike in the next 22 minutes to get my day started…ick….got a few things done yesterday and I am contemplating mowing the lawn today but I may let if go til Monday since it is not really that long even with the rain we had out here…when I did the weed walk yesterday, it was crunching under my feet so I probably should just let it go for a while…and it is supposed to rain over the weekend…yeah…that’s funny to me too….and leaving it longer might help it grow a bit….the premier league season starts today with crystal palace and arsenal playing this afternoon and I am looking forward to that distraction….but that means I need to get all of my work done by 3 but I don’t have a lot do do so that will be pretty easy even with getting a beach run in…damn, I don’t know why I feel so fat today even with only having two meals yesterday and no snacks….so that was only about 1200 calories and all I want to do is cut that back to around 800 or so and continue to lose weight…and that is a problem with riding two hard rides where I sprinted out and back….not much to do today…just a normal day with two rides and a beach run and then back here to do laundry as I watch soccer…this place needs to be cleaned but I’m not motivated to do that…I am going to pick the first cherry tomato today and I have a few others that are getting ripe so I’ll need to get some tortilla chips and start eating them and I can’t wait….more later…
