Well….I have been sitting here pondering whether or not to go out for a ride and have come up with many reasons not to…okay, not reasons but excuses but they look like reasons to me…it’s cold, the wind is blowing, I have coffee to finish, my legs are sore…you get the idea…but, that’s not what I wanted to talk about…if you watched the F1 race yesterday, you saw one of the most horrifying crashes that I have ever seen…Roman Grosjean, driving for the American Haas team cut across the track to avoid a car that was trying to spin out and clipped the front of another car that sent it straight into the guardrail at around 140 mph….when the car hit, it broke in half, puncturing the fuel tank and driving the drivers protective cell straight through the guardrail leaving it stuck in it and engulfed in fire….track marshals arrived quickly but it looked to be a fatal accident…then, you see the driver climbing out of the remains of the car and running away from the scene with the help of the doctor and driver of the medical car…I was shocked that Roman even survived the crash, but to see him walking away was one of the coolest things I have ever seen…and yesterday evening, he posted a video with his burned hands saying he would be okay and he was in good spirits and looking forward to getting back to the track…go out to you tube and watch it…it is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen at a racetrack….

A little sports….
Well…haven’t done one of these on sports in quite a while so I think it’s about time…I forgot to update when Man U won the Europa league Wednesday and that puts them in the Champion’s League for next year but that also ended the BPL season for the year…there is one more match tomorrow for the FA Cup and that should be a good one between Chelsea and Arsenal. There is so much sports on this weekend that the whole thing starts in about a half hour with Carb day from Indy and then F1 practice after that…then F1 qualifying from Monaco tomorrow morning, and the Xfinity race in the afternoon…then Sunday is raceday of the year with F1 from Monaco at 8…Indy at 11 and then the Coke 600 at 6…needless to say, I won’t be leaving the couch much Sunday….or the rest of the weekend for that matter….at least I won’t be bored….and I’ll be napping a lot…..
Nico Rosberg….
Well…one of damdest things happened this week…and something I’ve never seen before…after winning the F1 world championship, Nico Rosberg announced his retirement on Thursday…yep, he is walking away from F1 saying that he has accomplished what he wanted to…to win the championship and now there is nothing left for him to do…walking away from a 15 million dollars a year paycheck….when I heard of this, I was really shocked…he is only in his early thirties…but, I also understand it…next year, with all of the changes to the cars, there is no guarantee that the Mercedes will be the dominant car it was this year and the grind of developing a new car and another season could be wearing…and, after all, he has already made almost 100 million dollars since he started driving so he won’t end up poor. The big problem is going to be Mercedes finding another driver when everyone is under contract…going to be an interesting story to follow over the next couple of months…and I will have to pierce my news blackout to do that…
Formula 1
Well…it’s a sports day today and I may even be able to hit the goal if I do one on the Red Wings later….but first, I want to talk about the Formula 1 season that ended this past Sunday. It was a pretty good season with the championship still up for grabs in the last race….and Louis Hamilton doing everything he could to catch up to his teammate, Nico Rosberg, by winning the last four races but it wasn’t enough when Nico only had to finish third or better to win the whole thing. So, congratulations to Nico for the great season and his first championship…and for being part of only the second father and son pair of world champions…joining his father Keke and the Hills….I can’t wait for next year when the cars will all be new with more power, wider tires and more downforce that is supposed to make them 5 seconds a lap faster than this year….and more raceable…we’ll see….
RIP Jules Bianchi
Well…it is always a sad day when we lose one of the racing community and we lost another one today. Jules Bianchi was injured in the Japanese GP 8 months ago and had been in a coma ever since…he passed away today in the hospital in France where he was being cared for…RIP Jules….
Sports again….
Well…it has been a lazy day today and I haven’t done anything but watch sports so I thought I’d talk about that to get caught up….it was a pretty cool game that put State into the final four but I will admit that I didn’t watch the whole thing…just too nerve wracking when they were behind so I kept switching over to one of the 3 races that were on at the same time….and then I forgot about the F1 race that I wanted to see so I’ll have to see if I can find another repeat…it was a little boring this week with no BPL soccer on but there were some games from Spain that were pretty cool….oh, the Wings played good last night but are getting pummeled right now so I stopped watching that one…..okay…that’s enough for now…unless I think about something else…but I probably won’t….only one behind now…
