Well…haven’t had many car problems this winter and part of that is I just don’t drive it much anymore….had a week a couple back that I drove less than 5 miles and that is setting me up for another year that I ride my bike more miles than I drive the car. But yesterday, the driver’s side rear brake froze up when I used the parking brake andĀ dragged all the way over to Meijers and back, making it hard to even get the car up to 30. So, after it got light, I suited up and want out to try to fix it, glad that it was still 35 and not snowing…after I lubed both sides, the driver’s side was still sticking so I jacked the car up and took the tire off to get a better look at it…didn’t find anything wrong that I could see so I soaked it with about a half can of penetrating oil and even took off the adjuster cover and soaked what I could of the mechanism inside of it. Even after all that, it was still stickingĀ and I couldn’t think of anything else to do so I just put it back together and decided to just not use the brake..thinking that I would have to replace the caliper in the spring…but, after 20 years of driving cars with sticks, it is such a habit to pull on the brake that I continue to do it. To my surprise, when I went up to the office to pay my rent in the afternoon, the brake released just like normal…and it did it again today so maybe it’s fixed? Hope so…everything still works on the car and I want to keep it that way…oh, other than the battery going dead but I can fix that in the spring…
