Well…while I sit here waiting for the time to come to prep the turkey, I thought I’d do the corny thing and talk a little bit about what I’m thankful for on this holiday…and, even though I’m getting old, when I think about it, there are some things that I am thankful for. First, Social Security…with looking for a job for so many years with no luck and burning through every dime that I had saved just to stay alive, SS has given me the lifeline I needed to be able to live…while not a lavish lifestyle, it pays all the bills and will help buy me a house next year…and the weight it lifted off me by not stressing about a job anymore was the best. Second, Medicare…going without health insurance for 16 years and just hoping that nothing would happen to put me into bankruptcy was another reason that my stress levels were so high all the time…and with the tests and checkups that Medicare provides, I know now that I am pretty darn healthy for someone my age and there are no hidden problems that I have to worry about….and, this is the one place that I am going to get political..hey, politicians…I PAID for this my entire working life…it is not an “entitlement” it is a contract between the people of the country and the government…it is not a bargaining chip, it is not something that can be discarded to pay for tax cuts for the rich…okay, that’s enough of that for now…I may be back for another one later since I do have to talk about friends and my kids and the sky and the stars…and Steely Dan, and Robert Heinlein and computers and life…so, check back later…I do have a couple of hours free while the turkey cooks and before the Lions start….more later…
