Why so much damn salt?

Well…now that I’ve started to really pay attention to the quantity of salt in food that I buy, that generated a question to me…why so much damn salt? Went out yesterday to my daily deals store to get some turkey breast they had on sale for 77 cents a pound and made the point to look at the label…in every 2 oz serving, it had almost 400 milligrams of salt in it…or 25% of the amount of salt limit you can have every day…and even to make a sandwich, you would probably have 4-5 ozs and that would put you at the limit for the day…I mean almost 2 grams of salt just in one sandwich? Needless to say, I didn’t buy it and instead bought a whole turkey this morning at 49 cents a pound that has no added salt…but the smallest one I could find was 16 pounds and I think it was a deal for under 8 bucks…and it is the biggest turkey I have ever bought…hope it fits in my roaster….
