Well…as I sit here waiting for the Hobby Lobby decision to be announced, one that I am sure they are going to get wrong and grant corporations religious rights, the court did get one right today when they ruled that police need a warrant to search a person’s cell phone when they are arrested, which raises the bar and makes police do their jobs versus fishing to see if they just might be something they can use on your phone. The decision was another milestone in that the court ruled unanimously that the phone is now the equivalent of a person’s “papers” that explicitly are singled out in the fourth amendment to need a warrant to be searched. I am going to enjoy this one for the short time it takes for HL to be released…then, I’ll come back an comment on that one….more later
