A little more sports…

Well…it was a sports day yesterday so I thought I’d do one of these about it….the Winter Classic with the Wings and Leafs was fun to watch but I can’t understand how the Wings keep losing in shootouts…one of the things that I saw during the game was that the conditions did not favor our style…we have a bunch of finesse players that really don’t play well when they have to change their game to allow for all of the snow on the ice…it was still fun to watch, though, but, I think the NHL is going overboard with outdoor games with there being something like 5 more this winter…they may be diluting the specialness of it. The other one I wanted to talk about is the Rose Bowl that State won with a defense performance that was pretty cool…and to win one for the first time in 26 years was cool, too…I was getting really tired of all of the writers saying how bad the Big 10 is and that they can’t play with the better conferences…now, if Michigan just get its act together and win one, that would be the icing on the cake…

Maybe some sports?

Well…still struggling with topics so I think I may just do one on some sports…maybe that will get my head cleared up a little…I do like the outdoor hockey that is going on in Detroit over the next few days…watched the GLI yesterday and it looked like they were having fun…the ice doesn’t look too good, though, and Michigan lost so they are playing in the third place game in a while that should be fun since they are playing State…and, the world junior tournament is going on this week, too and the US is in first place in their group…and Canada just lost in a shoot out..normally, I will root for the Canucks but not when we play them…the Wings have been pretty stinky lately but with Hank coming back tonight, it might be fun to watch…they need to start stringing together some wins or they might not make the playoffs for the first time since I have been following them….then, we have Michigan playing in their bowl game tonight, but what the heck is with the 10:15 start? Feels like one of the west coast swings that the Wings used to do and I’m sure I won’t make it through it…it is a cocktail night, after all….more later…

A little sports…

Well…it has been a while since I did some sports talk here so I think it’s about time…the first and most important one is the Michigan/State game this aft…all of the pundits are calling for State to win the game by anywhere from 3 to 14 points…a little discouraging but I am still hoping that Michigan can suck it up and get a win in East Lansing today…who knows? The Wings have been doing better over the past couple of games and they look like they are just working harder than the opponents but I still think they look inconsistent…but Helm is coming back tonight and it will be interesting to see where he is with only playing one game in the last year…and I really hate these west coast games that don’t start til 10…but it is much better being in the east than in the west…I think this is the only west coast trip this year…I would talk about soccer and the BPL but I don’t get to see it anymore so the hell with them…I hope NBC sports dies after them moving soccer to a channel I don’t get…taking formula one, too…I am still pissed about that…oh, well…

Just a couple of things….

Well…was just skimming over Twitter and found that Jim Leyland is retiring as the manager of the Tigers and, while it is not a big surprise, it is always a little sad when one of the nice guys in sports is at the end of his career. It will be interesting to see who they hire for the next one…I do feel bad for the assistant coaches that will probably lose their jobs, too, but that is how it works in sports….

We may be getting Helm back for the Wings by the weekend and I hope he gives them the spark they have been lacking this season…again, though, I feel bad for Tootoo who it looks like will be cut to make room under the cap…

I don’t feel bad for the Tigers, though, they just looked terrible in the playoffs and did not deserve to win….and, this was a year that I followed them more than I have in years because they looked good on paper…and the boredom that comes with being unemployed had something to do with my watching….it’s kinda like the Lions…I watch them even though they have been pretty bad my entire life…and that is a really long time…

They’ve just ruined NASCAR…

Well…it appears that today will be a sports day…haven’t really done much on sports in a while but with the Michigan win and now the new rules that have just come from NASCAR, I just had to comment. I think they’ve just ruined the sport that I have followed since I was a kid with these rules…no more bump and run? No more letting your teammate through to get a point for leading? No more using strategy of any kind for multi-car teams? I have had just about enough of all of the rules from these guys…they have taken all of the intrigue and fun out of the races with these rules and it just continues taking the innovation and fun out of them, too. This will probably be the last season I’ll watch if this crap keeps up…nice job ruining the fun of the fans…I’m talking to you Brian France and Mike Helton…geez…

Go Blue!

Well…it has been a nail biting day today…Michigan looked really, really bad against Akron and almost lost the game…but, they saved it with a goal line stand…4th and goal for Akron with 5 seconds left…and finally, Michigan blitzed and an incomplete pass gave them the game…but, to even let Akron be that close, I am starting to be concerned with Michigan even after that nice win over ND last week…so, we’ll see what happens over the rest of the year…all I have to say is Go Blue!!

Let’s Go Red Wings!

Well…it has been an exciting first series for the Wings and today, we are looking at a game 7 with the Ducks and I am starting to get excited even though the game is still 6 1/2 hours away…yeah, those damn 10 o’clock starts are killing me and screwing up my cocktail nights…it has been a pretty good series so far but we could have ended it earlier if it wasn’t for some stupid mistakes but exciting anyway…and Hank hs been the best player for the Wings and has carried the team for the past couple of weeks…I just hope he has one more in him for tonight…or that someone else steps up and gives him a hand….they have been playing better and better as the series has gone on so I guess I can hold my breath for one more…even going to skip “Mad Men” to watch it..and no, I don’t have one of those fancy dvr’s that would be of great use right now…one thing left to say: Let’s Go Red Wings!!

Let’s go Red Wings!

Well..another year has passed and we are in the playoffs again even though this year, it was a nail-biter right until the end…but they dug down and made it…I am excited about the games starting tonight and, for the last year, we start again on the west coast which means the games don’t start here until 10 or 10:30…kind of late for an old guy but I am going to be good all week so it might not be that much of a challenge…they have been playing like a team for the first time this season and seem to be peaking at exactly the right time…there is hope for next year with the move to the east and all early games….I have the gear on already and I am going to take a nap this aft to try to prepare….with the way that Hank, Pavel, and Jimmy are playing, we may be able to surprise some people and get to the next round….we can only hope…Go Wings!

The republicans are stealing again…

Well…in case you had any doubts about the sudden embracing of medicaid expansion that we’ve seen by repub governors and are trying to figure out the change of heart, don’t bother…the real reason for this sudden concern for the poor is just typical repub through and through…they have figured out that they can steal a bunch of this money for their owners in the insurance industry by asking for waivers that would allow them to turn medicaid from the government run program it is, to some kind of hybrid that would take the money, give it to the insurance companies, and then have the insurance companies cover these folks. Yep, you heard it right, the repubs, the champions of eliminating waste and fraud (yeah, right) are going to take a program that has 8% administrative costs and hand it over to insurance companies who have 20 to 30% administrative costs…for example, a program like Florida where the expansion was 3 billion dollars, would immediately hand over 600 million in costs to the insurance companies, of which at least a hundred million would go straight into the pockets of the ceo’s for their bonuses. So, instead of covering more people with the extra money and reaping the savings of scale in the medicaid program, the repubs are willing to force them into a less efficient program just to line the pockets of the insurance companies. How much worse can these guys get? We might just as well be a banana republic…the repubs are acting like we are….geez…

Another 1% er crying in his beer…

Well..when are the pampered one percent going to learn to keep their mouths shut? I’ve just about had it with these spoiled idiots complaining that they are going to close their business, fire employees, or quit their job because Obama raised their taxes. These guys are so stupid they don’t understand it was the congress that raised the taxes…Obama just signed the law so get your fricking facts straight. The latest of these idiots to spout nonsense is the golfer Phil Mickleson, who late last week talked to a reporter and whined that he was going to quit golfing because California raised state taxes and the federal rate went up 3% on people like him that make millions…notice I didn’t say “earned” millions because getting 48 million dollars in one year from making commercials and playing golf is not earning it by any stretch of the imagination. Well Phil, go ahead and quit..go back to your gated community and the other one percent idiots that you seem to identify with so much…and, let me give you one piece of advice: the money you make is paid for by people like me who buy the products that you endorse so it’s probably not a good idea to rub our broke noses in the shit that you are spouting…we’d love to have 24 million dollars after taxes so, shut the hell up…geez…
