Shame on you Brad K. and Clint B.

Well….after seeing both Brad Keselowski and Clint Boyer singing trump’s praises on twitter and responding to them there….this afternoon I feel it still isn’t enough to just tweet them….I needed to have more than 140 characters to respond. First to Clint, I know you have a young son…can you really point to trump and say to your son “I admire this man and want you to be like him”? And Brad, it’s even worse for you…you have a young daughter and you admire a serial sexual assaulter that thinks it’s perfectly okay? I thought you two were pretty good guys but with this trump support I can see that you are not and do not deserve my support or for me to support your sponsors….and I hope that you have this trump love pinned on you every day for the rest of you careers….geez…

Blackout effects….

Well…I may have to reconsider my total news blackout with the latest surprise that has blindsided me today….Carl Edwards announced he is retiring from NASCAR at the age of 37 to make sure he can be healthy the rest of his life….he is leaving one of the best rides on the circuit in the #19 Joe Gibbs car where he almost won the championship this past year. One of the things that Carl said with the announcement was that he has accomplished enough in his career…similar to what Nico Rosberg said after he won the F1 championship last fall….nevertheless, it is still a huge surprise that Carl is retiring….thanks for the memories, Carl…enjoy the rest of your life….

I’m done with NASCAR…

Well…I am just a little chagrined with the news that the leadership of nascar and many of the drivers have come out and endorsed Donald Trump for president….I guess we all now know that racism is still alive and well in the south…now, people can endorse anyone they want…but I don’t have to pay or support their decision by watching them anymore….this just shows that these folks are not too bright…or they agree with all the terrible things the Donald has said and continues to say…do they really believe that all Mexicans are drug mules and rapists as Donald has said on more than one occasion? Do they really believe that all Muslims should be watched by the state? All I know is that Nascar ended for me today…and I have been watching it since the 70′s….I hope the rest of the progressive people in this country do the same….geez…

RIP Steve Byrnes….

Well…there was some sad news that came over my twitter feed this afternoon….Steve Byrnes has died after a long battle with cancer. If you have been a NASCAR fan over the past 20 years, you saw Steve doing pit road interviews and working the booth for many races in all of the three series….it was always nice to see Steve asking the hard questions and smiling as he did it…getting answers that others didn’t since he had the respect of everyone in the garage. He leaves behind his wife and 12 year old son…RIP Steve…..

Some sports…

Well….as you can see, these are a little fillery but I have to do something to ensure I meet my goals for the month…I wish I was getting paid for this so I could blame it on my boss forcing me to do it but that’s just not true….I wish it was….there was a race on today that was a bore until the last 20 laps or so…and that’s out of 200 so it really did live up to my name of “Napcar” instead of Nascar and I did get a nap in even though I didn’t need it…a bad bit of news came from the weird Wings game last night where one of the Stars punched Hank in the head and now he is out for a while…I hope that idiot gets a suspension and a big fine…no place for that crap unless both guys are going in a fight….I won’t talk about Man U any more since they are losing to everyone and won’t make the Champions League again next year….not sure what their problem is but changing the coach didn’t help….anything else? Nope, not for now….

They’ve just ruined NASCAR…

Well…it appears that today will be a sports day…haven’t really done much on sports in a while but with the Michigan win and now the new rules that have just come from NASCAR, I just had to comment. I think they’ve just ruined the sport that I have followed since I was a kid with these rules…no more bump and run? No more letting your teammate through to get a point for leading? No more using strategy of any kind for multi-car teams? I have had just about enough of all of the rules from these guys…they have taken all of the intrigue and fun out of the races with these rules and it just continues taking the innovation and fun out of them, too. This will probably be the last season I’ll watch if this crap keeps up…nice job ruining the fun of the fans…I’m talking to you Brian France and Mike Helton…geez…

I just don’t know…

Well…I have been railing on against the idiocy of the right all week and it has taken a lot out of me…and has taken me dangerously close to the feeling that events in the US have gotten out of hand…that we are sliding back to the bad old days where we citizens don’t mean much when compared to the clout that business and the moneyed interests have. But, I’m not going to turn this one into another screed against this rising tide…we all need to take a break sometimes and this is going to be mine…and talk about some other things that may be uplifting or might not….maybe getting away from the charged rhetoric will help me cleanse my head today, I’ve had the feeling that this might be necessary for a while now; that my heart was just not in it and I was lacking in lucidity…just going through the motions. So, today, I’m just going to ramble a bit and just talk…hoping that something will make me feel better about the world and myself. Who knows?

Hmmm…it is kind of heartening to see the people in some of the Arab countries get to the point where they have said enough, enough of the cronyism and theft by the elites that leave the people with no voice and no institutions that can help them express their desire for freedom…but I do have the fear that the well organized religious zealots will co-opt the popular uprisings and make it worse for them in the short term. We can hope that that won’t happen but unfortunately history is not on the side of the people…I just hope the US comes down on the side of freedom no matter what pain it causes us….

Oh, Sarah Palin…..nope, not going to write anything here….just a reminder that the ban on Sarah takes effect in three days…

Sports….I don’t really think that sports matters in the overall scheme of things…but I do want to say I am so happy that Nick Lidstrom was chosen for one of the captains in the NHL all star game this weekend…a better sports figure has never been seen here in Michigan….well…maybe Al Kaline or Alan Trammel…I feel good that we had these men to watch over the years….and it is so nice to see the unassuming kids we have coming up through the system for the Red Wings….probably one of the reasons I like hockey so much…very few self absorbed idiots…I forgot to talk about the new racing season that is starting tomorrow with the 24 Hours of Daytona…always the kick off of the year and I am looking forward to it..I think…not so much the Nascar season…I am tired of Jimmie Johnson and the lack of innovation that the series shows….way too many rules that make the racing bland and repetitive and it is only getting worse…guys, this is the reason people have stopped coming to the tracks and watching, not the points system…and, while we’re at it…lets get rid of the “Chase” and go back to talking about everyone that is on the track not just the top 12…

Okay…that’s enough isn’t it? I’ll try to get another one out later but I’m not sure if it will be a good idea or not…I’m sitting here listening to Pandora and just want to get out the last book from the bag o books I got from T and escape for a while….

Let’s do a little sports….

I’ve been thinking that I need to lighten up a little for a while, or for one post, whichever comes first, so I think I’ll throw out some thoughts on sports….I am getting so tired of Napcar, or Nascar to the rest of the world…can’t we have another champion? The TV ratings are way down and if you look in the stands at the races, you’ll see that they are 30% or more empty no matter where the races are. In my opinion, it’s a result of the sanitizing of the design of the cars they race…they’ve taken the innovation out of it by having such a stringent set of rules. Where are the days when Curtis Turner showed up with a 3/4 scale car that no one could figure out until he parked it next to a rental car of the same make? It used to be an exciting time when you never knew who was going to show up with the next big thing….but now, cars are being disqualified for being 10 thousandths of an inch out of spec…less than the width of a human hair…

Basketball…nope, don’t care about basketball…

Football…well, the Lions are still the Lions but I am hoping that they will at least be competitive on t-day. And, we have Michigan vs. Ohio State Sat but I’m just hoping it’s not a blowout…hmmm…I’m not really offering any insights here…so I think I’ll just stop for a while…I could get to Manchester United but I don’t think any of you out there know or care about soccer…I will say this..they were playing against Wigan yesterday and two Wigan players were sent off with red cards…but Man U only won by 2-0…they have looked terrible all year and I’m tired of hearing about Wayne Rooney bitching about his contract, etc…what has he done in the last year?

That’s about it for now…

bad weekend for sports

Well…this weekend was pretty terrible for the good guys…the Wings lost two and then Michigan State went down…but congrats to Butler..hope they win it all. Don’t know why I want them to win but when my teams go out, I’ll take the underdog to be the one. Not logical but that’s that’s just how it is for me.

At least the Formula One race was kind of interesting but verged on being Napcar. I am a huge Nascar fan but over the past few seasons, we have taken to calling it Napcar…since you can start the race, see about 50 laps or so, then take a nap, and wake up for the last 50 laps and you will be able to get the gist of the race. Used to be a big fan when the teams were allowed to be innovative (read cheat) and the cars were not identical. Loved it when, I think it was Curtis Turner, took his 67 chevelle race car and cut 8 inches out of the center to make it narrower and thus faster. Back then, and into the 70′s and 80′s, it was always interesting to read about the sport and who got caught; then you could marvel at their creativity. Now people get caught for a bolt missing from an oil tank or being off from one of the templates by a 16th of an inch…just not the same.
