Well…with the damage done by hurricane Ian to Florida, NC, and SC….the dems did the responsible thing and got an emergency funding bill up in front of congress to have 12 billion dollars ready to go as soon as it’s needed…and they didn’t try to extort anyone or threaten to withhold the money since the damage was done to red states like the idiot trump would have and did to blue states….but, since they are not in charge of congress, the repubs there are acting like they are not even trying anymore…especially those who are supposed to represent Florida like Matt Gaetz who voted against the funding along with one of their senators, Rick Scott…and their other senator, Marco Rubio, didn’t even show up for the vote…but that’s no surprise since he never talks to his constitutents and no one ever knows where he is…surely not doing his job. Let that sink in for a minute…and hey Floridians, these guys do not give a damn about you or what you are going through…they vote against all help to score cheap political points while you sit there with no food, water, or shelter…what the hell are they good for? Nothing from what I can see…and we in the blue states are rushing in to try…that is the difference between dems and repubs…we know you need help and we are going to provide it…but the repubs all believe that government is a bad thing and will just sit there and pout as we get things done….remember that in November…geez…
October 2nd
Well…man, I’m tired today….didn’t get out of bed til 6:21 but it feels like I was up all night….the coffee is not working at all this morning and I really do want to go back to bed for the whole day…but no, the F1 race is on at 8 and Man U plays at 9 so I won’t be out on the bike til 11 or so and the temp won’t be over 50 til then anyway….had an okay day yesterday and got some stuff done but I need to clean up the work room today to keep the paint chips from spreading all over the house…I can’t believe how much I hurt today just with painting yesterday…making the old guy noises when I move and that just sucks…oh,well….not sure what I’m going to do today but I should get some work done outside…but that could wait til tomorrow with how I feel right now…I am pretty happy with how the door and frame came out…looks nice and clean with the eggshell finish and I can’t wait to put it back up and get that done…but not today….should take the shades down in the dining room and get the newspaper up on the windows but I think I won’t…I need a day off and today may be that day…..not much to do today….I really do need to just ease into it today and read some news before I even think about what to do….just want to sit here for a bit and have more coffee before I make any decisions…life is a lot of work….more later…
Been running all day…
Well..yeah, this isn’t a political one…that will wait til later if I get to one at all….what I did want to talk about is the fact that I’ve been running all day but have accomplished a lot so it’s worth it…as soon as I got up this morning, I finished sanding the bathroom door and cleaned it up to get ready to paint…then I panted the inside of the door and the edges with two coats, masked off the door frame and painted that, then stood the door up against the wall and painted the outside of it with two coats again….oh, in between that I got the first bike ride in as I waited for the paint to dry so I could handle the door…and I just finished cleaning up and now I’m watching some of the Michigan game before I get back on the bike for the second time…and it is almost 70 so I’ll be out in a t-shirt when I get on the bike around three so I can get back here for the race from Talladega at 4….I am going to have to wait for a few days for the paint to cure before I can put the door back on so I’ll start working on the windows in the dining room….I think I’ll take the rest of the day off after the bike ride…and come back here for one more for the day….
October 1st
Well…crap, just lost a whole post that I had done with a glitch in this program so now I need to recreate it…still feeling pretty worn out today with getting up at 5:14 and then out of bed a little after 7 and I wonder if it is just getting old…after all, I’m not young anymore and not getting younger….it was a little funny yesterday when I reached over the arm of my couch to plug my phone in and hurt my side so badly that I could barely breathe…that’s getting old, folks and it still hurts this morning…but it has been hurting for a couple of weeks now so I’m kind of used to it….I did get some work done yesterday and I am going to paint today but not right now…F1 qualifying is on at 9 and then I need to get on the bike and get the rides in so painting will wait til the afternoon…I did find a small and big roller covers that I had cleaned the last time I used them and appear to be good enough to be reused so I didn’t have to make a run to depot but I’m not sure if I can clean them enough to do the second side of the door in a couple of days but well see…I do have enough paint but will need another gallon to start on the baseboards and windows in the dining room…I do need to do some outdoor work over the weekend, too….need to clean and fill the window bird feeder and take the hummingbird feeder down and clean that, too….didn’t see one hummingbird this year but I’ll put the feeder back up in the spring…and I need to take the tomato plants and flowers down to put out Tuesday but that could even wait till Monday since it’s not going to rain any time soon….not much to do today…yeah, that’s not true…should be working right now but I’m going to have more coffee and read some news first..it’s too cold to go out on the bike at 45 degrees and it won’t be over 50 until around 10 or so….so I have an hour to jsut sit here and gather my energy for the day….more later….
Last one for the month…
Well…yeah, this is cheating…just to get my post count up…not really…just sitting here waiting for the night to start and thought I’d just do one more and see where it goes…I knew the summer is truly over today when I saw that they have put the sand fences up at the Pere Marquette beaches over the past couple of days…not sure how effective they are since they had about 3 feet of sand over the road that runs along the small beach in the spring…I wonder how deep it would have been without them? I did get some work done today and have the door frame and door ready to paint, almost…just a little more sanding on the door that I’ll do in the morning…and I just painted the hinges and screws a few minutes ago so I’ll be ready to hang them when the painting is done…I think I’m going to paint the outside of the door after I hang it back up so I don’t screw up the back of it that I am painting tomorrow…it takes forever for the paint to cure and it would probably stick to the sawhorses even after a week and I want it done…okay, need to get ready for the night and make some ice….
Putin has gotten as stupid as trump…
Well…reading the analysis of the dictator Putin’s latest speech where he tried to justify the annexation of Eastern Ukraine and all I can say is that Putin has gotten as stupid as trump…and he sounds like him, too….and we know how the “vote” for joining Russia was just too perfect with the yes votes of 97-98% of them…a typical Russian election by the way….Putin went on and on and on about how terrible the US is and bitched about the US bombing Germany and Japan in WWII…and not letting North Korea (or China) win the Korean war…and the “fact” that the US is forcing people to change sexes and take drugs…and he kept on about how “powerful” Russia is and how weak the west is…and one funny thing is that Lyman, that is in one of the annexed parts of Ukraine, was liberated today and the Ukrainian army is sweeping to the east capturing another 3,000 Russian soldiers as his “powerful” army cuts and runs…in no way the toughest army in the world as tucker carlson bleated just a few months ago….oh, and another stupid thing this speech directly resulted in was President Zelensky asking for an expedited process on their bid to join NATO…didn’t think of that vlad? If this happens and Ukraine is allowed to join, any attack by Russia will trigger article 5 in the NATO charter that says all member nations will come to the aid of any member that is attacked….and putin can’t even deal with Ukraine…what the hell can he do if NATO gets in the fight? If they wanted to, they could be in Moscow in a week…but they won’t, it will be enough to just throw Russia out of Ukraine and then just let the sanctions rot the Russian economy until the oligarchs get tired of losing money and depose putin. From the start, putin has been just a stupid as trump in starting the invasion that has gutted the Russian military and resulted in more than 50,000 of their soldiers killed…and yet the repubs keep cheering him on…if you listen to fox news, is sounds like they have the same writers as putin…and they are all traitors…geez…
September 30th
Well…man, I’m not sure what it is but I felt so crappy in the late afternoon yesterday that I could barely get off the couch I felt so worn out….if this is what getting old feels like, I don’t like it one bit…and that led to me not getting out of bed til 7:30 and I still feel exhausted right now….so the work I planned on getting done today is going to be on hold until I get through this…or until the coffee starts to work…still have that damn headache I’ve had for weeks now…okay, that’s enough whining….it was nice to get two rides in yesterday and that is plan for today but it is only 41 right now so that is going to wait til around 11 or so…and that will give me time to get some work done on the house….might even get some painting done later….would like to get the door frame done today and maybe the hinges but I need to see if I have any roller covers downstairs since I will be rolling the paint on the door….I did get the weed walk done yesterday between the rides and I am going to strip the last of the tomatoes off the plants today so I can take them down and put them out Tuesday….not much to do today….okay, I do have lots to do today but I have to remember that I really don’t have a schedule and if the work gets pushed back til tomorrow, I won’t die from it….and that’s pretty hard….more later…
Better than I expected…
Well….I know it’s early, but I just had dinner that I cooked in my slow cooker all day and it came out way better than I expected…it could be the best thing I’ve ever made in it and it was all by accident really…just threw stuff together and let it cook all day with bottled traditional pasta sauce as the liquid with a little water that I used to rinse out the jar when I poured it in…that along with the chicken leg quarters, onion, potatoes, carrots, garlic, and some celery I had in the fridge..oh, and I added quite a bit of Italian seasoning…but I think what made this dish was turning it up to high and adding half a box of elbow macaroni for the last half hour since it thickened the sauce up so it stuck to everything….this is comfort food that I am going to make again and again over the winter…oooo, some sausage would go good in it, too, it doesn’t need it but I may try that next time and I may de-bone the chicken, too so I don’t have to pick through it as I eat….and I don’t think it has that many calories in it since it is mostly veggies, pasta, and chicken….but whatever is okay since I skipped lunch in anticipation of eating a lot for dinner…man, I’m full…

Well…with the reports coming out this morning from sheriffs in the Ft. Meyers area of hundreds dead from hurricane Ian…and I hope that’s not the case…I think there are a couple of reasons why people didn’t heed the warnings and evacuate…first, and I’ve written about this before, is the fact that almost 60% of the people in this country can’t cover an unexpected emergency of 400 bucks since they don’t have money in the bank for it…and, with a 3 day evacuation costing upwards of 2 grand for the travel and housing, they just couldn’t afford to leave and that is on us in the US…we should be able to take care of our fellow citizens if only the asshole governor of Florida, DeSantis, didn’t spend money on political stunts and actually cared about governing instead of his culture war bullshit that he is focused on…and the other reason is that the right wing has done a really good job of teaching people to not trust the government…so when even the president comes on tv and pleads with people to evacuate, they think it’s some kind of conspiracy and reflexively won’t believe him since the “libs lie all the time…look at covid” conspiracy that has been pushed and pushed on fox news over the past week…so we have the perfect storm of people wanting to leave but can’t afford it and people who won’t leave because fox news taught them not to trust the government…and the result is hundreds dead…I truly hope that’s not true but with many coastal cities under 9-12 feet of storm surge, I fear that the worst is yet to come….and I feel for Floridians no matter what their politics….
September 29th
Well…that was okay…tossed and turned a bit but I had some dreams and only got up once at around 3 and then not out of bed til after 6 so I’ll take it…and I feel pretty good this morning…compared to how I felt with having cocktails at night…I’m still old and creaky but I can live with that….had a good day yesterday and I am looking forward to today with loading up my slow cooker with chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, and pasta sauce…and I just had the idea to add some pasta at the end and I’m not sure if it is going to be the half box of elbow mac I have or the 8 lasagna noodles that I can break up or some egg noodles that I have…or maybe a combo of all of them that I will add at the end so they don’t go too mushy…I am going to get out on the bike for two rides today but I’ll have to wait til 11 or so to get started since it is pretty cold out there right now and I still want to go out in shorts…I did get laundry done yesterday so I only have working on the house to do today and I’ll get at that after I get the slow cooker going….still haven’t healed my back or obliques even with the two days off the bike and I think part of it is the straining I’m doing with the sanding on the door so I guess I’ll just resign myself that I’m going to hurt until the work on the house is done…I did have a surprise the other day when I went out to work on the door opener in the garage…it was cold so I dragged out a pair of jeans that always were too tight and they just slipped on and were even a little loose and I got a little smile out of that….have been working hard to control my weight and it’s nice to see some success….not much to do today…just going take it easy and have some more coffee, read the news, and enjoy the day….I do have to figure out why I have such a headache this morning and how to deal with it….it’s probably from the dust from sanding combining with my allergies so I’ll just have to live with it or suffer the side effects of allergy meds…and I think that is worse….more later….
