Well…I just about choked on my dinner yesterday when I read that the NY times thinks we’re doing something right with our non-partisan redistricting committee here in Michigan. In a state that, by all accounts, was one of the most heavily gerrymandered ones in the country…done by repubs…the Times gushed that we are going to have one of the most fair electoral maps in the country and that was the result of a constitutional amendment approved by 65% of the people a couple of years back….but that’s not enough..we may have fair maps here, but we can have them all over the country if Manchin and Sinema would go along and see the necessity of taking away the repubs chance to cheat by gerrymandering everywhere they are in control…and all they would have to do is vote for the freedom to vote act that is coming up for a vote in January….how can any dem not support taking away repubs ability to cheat? This act would finally level the playing field across the country and make sure that the voters pick their reps and not the other way around as the repubs have rigged across the country…and the time is now as redistricting takes place across the country this year…get it done…geez…

A win for democracy here in Michigan….
Well….as the repubs continue to cheat to win elections and to rig the votes through gerrymandering, the judicial system has come through to protect the citizen initiative for fairly drawn districts. Just yesterday, a federal judge dismissed the repubs lawsuit that tried to get the non-partisan redistricting commission law thrown out even though 61% of the people here in Michigan voted for it…showing that the repubs don’t give a damn about the people of Michigan’s wishes but just hanging on to power any way they can….and the only way they can is to cheat since fairly drawn districts would put them out of power possibly permanently…or until they become a party that actually cares what the people want…and that is not more tax cuts for the rich that decimate the services that all of us depend on. So, of course you know how this is going to play out…the repubs will appeal and try to run out the clock so the commission can’t do it’s job for 2020 and the cheating districts that the repubs rigged will have to be used…isn’t anyone else tired of the repubs undermining our democracy for their own venal needs? I know I am and want every damn one of them gone….
Crooked damn Michigan republicans…
Well…I guess the will of the people means nothing to Michigan republicans…of course, we knew that with their continued efforts to rig elections here to make sure they control the state when they get massively less votes in every damn election. The latest from these anti-American assholes sees them trying to destroy the constitutional amendment that would undo their partisan gerrymandering and that was approved by 61% of the voters here that would take the drawing of congressional districts out of the hands of these cheaters and put it into the hands of a bipartisan commission that would draw the lines fairly…but no, the repubs know that fairly drawn districts would put them permanently in the minority here so, of course, they are trying to defeat the Michigan constitution by refusing to fund the commission, trying their best to prevent our democracy from functioning for purely partisan bullshit. Now, since we control the governorship and the attorney general’s offices here, we can stop them from passing any of this last gasp of cheating by the repubs…but why should we have to? Why do we have to put up with the repub party here never ever doing anything to solve the problems we have here but just continual naked power grabs that make life here worse. We need to throw every damn one of them out and burn that party to the ground….
Some good news from Michigan…
Well…we finally got a little good news here in Michigan yesterday when the supreme court has allowed an anti-gerrymandering proposal to go on the ballot for November. You can guess the usual suspects who opposed having fairly drawn congressional districts..yeah, the same damn folks, all the repubs, the chamber of commerce and yadda yadda….who have a vested interest in still being allowed to cheat and choose their voters by re-districting since if the vote is fair, the repubs will lose. So now, if the proposal passes, and it is polling at 60% for right now, we will have a commission that will draw the lines here fairly, not “putting all the democrat scum” in one district as one repub commented when the latest lines were drawn under repub control. Maybe, just maybe, we can take our state back from the repub cheaters who have taxed retirees to give ceo’s huge tax breaks and who are still fighting against equality for all of Michigan’s citizens, not just the ones that the repubs deem worthy….vote….
A big deal in Michigan…
Well…not sure if any of you have heard of this since it has flown under the radar here in Michigan…there has been a ballot proposal approved for this November that takes redistricting out of the hands of politicians and puts it into the hands of an independent commission to get rid of the awful gerrymandering the repubs have done to deprive people of the vote. In every election since the repubs started to cheat and drew districts to favor them, there have been more dem votes than repub but the repubs control the entire goverment here and that is just wrong…and, we all know that they can’t win any elections without cheating since demographics are a tidal wave coming at them with the young and minority voters overwhelmingly going for the dems. This proposal would create a commission of 4 dems, 4 repubs, and 5 independents that would draw new lines in 2020 and that has the repubs sweating bullets, and, with yesterday’s SC decision that racially motivated gerrymandering is just peachy with them, the only recourse to ensure a fair vote is to take redistricting out of the hands of repubs and put it back in the hands of the people. When this happened in California, the new, fairly drawn districts took control of the state out of the hands of the minority repubs and gave it to voters which resulted in the dems having a super majority….and that can happen here, too, and we can get control of our state back from the trump loving assholes who run it now….geez…
