Well…congrats to Argentina for winning the final match at the world cup…what a game! They were up 2-0 in the 80th minute and then France scored two in about 90 seconds and then it was a slug fest through overtime when Argentina scored first and then France scored in the last two minutes to tie it…and then Argentina won it in a shootout…I did want France to win but I’m happy for Messi and Argentina…probably one of the best matches I have ever seen…and a pretty good world cup…now we need to get to a final at some point or at least win our first knockout round in 4 years….

Round of 16…
Well…I’m not sure if I’m more surprised that the US made the round of 16 in the world cup or that Belgium didn’t….and Belgium is ranked at #2 in the world….but that is how soccer works at times..and now we meet the Netherlands here in 28 minutes and I have mixed feelings of both excitement and dread since I know that we will have to play our best to move on to the next round but I’ll be happy no matter what…I know our guys are going to work their butts off and do their best and I am happy that Pulisic will be able to play after crashing into the goaltender scoring the winning goal against Iran…so, USA,USA, USA…go boys!
The US moves on…
Well…cripes, what a nail biter….the US scored one goal to move on into the round of 16 beating Iran 1-0…the goal was scored by Christian Pulisic who just crashed the goal to put in a headed cross by Dest but ran into the goaltender and had to go out of the match at the half due to an injury he got scoring…so now, we move on to the Netherlands at 10 Saturday morning and I’m not sure how I feel about that one…if we play like we played England, we have a good chance to do something…but if we play like we played Wales or Iran, it could get pretty ugly pretty early…but to get to the round of 16 is a pretty big deal and I will allow myself to be happy about that for a day or so…and then root for them again especially since we are such a young team…but I still think it’s weird that I know more of the players on the England team than I do on ours…might have to start watching MLS although at least 6 players on our team play in the Premier League….go USA!
Not bad….
Well…that wasn’t too bad…the match ended up in a 0-0 draw when England was supposed to beat us 4-0…..so I’ll take it…and we are left with having to win against Iran on Tuesday afternoon and I am excited to see that one….and it was a good game with lots of chances on both sides….but I think we played better than them…at least we didn’t lose today and that is a massive plus with the third youngest team in the tournament….and now we have Michigan vs Ohio State tomorrow to worry about…it’s tough being a sports fan…
So far, so good…
Well…just a shorty on the ongoing US/England match….it’s 0-0 at the half but it has been a good match so far with us getting some good chances…I think even better than England and Pulisic rattling one off the crossbar so close to going in that I jumped off the couch…if they keep playing well and I do that again, I’ll probably hurt myself…wouldn’t that be funny….okay, second half coming up…back later with good or bad news….if we win today, all we have to do is tie Iran Tuesday….fingers crossed…
World cup 2
Well…there have been a few surprises in the world cup so far so I thought I’d talk about it a bit…first, the US played well but only came up with a draw against Wales and that means the England match Friday is a must win and I just don’t see the US winning after England won their first match 6-2 and looked good doing it…yesterday there was a huge surprise when Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia and no one saw that one coming…and this morning, Japan beat Germany when Germany was a clear favorite to win the tournament…so they will need to win their next one as does Argentina…if they don’t, they could be out by the weekend and that would be a huge shock…it’s been an interesting tournament so far and Spain/Costa Rica is up next in a few minutes and I have to root for the team from our hemisphere….more later…
World Cup…part 1
Well…the World cup really got started this morning with England beating Iran 6-1 and the Netherlands playing Senegal right now and that looks like it’s going to be a good one, too…but the big one is the US vs Wales at 2 this afternoon and I really don’t have a good feeling about the US team this time…they are so inconsistent but at least they made this tournament after missing it 4 years ago…this group looks like a tough one with England, Wales, the US, and Iran and we need to finish in the top two to move on to the knockout stage…and that will take at least one win and probably a draw to go with it…this is Wales’s first time making it in quite a while so they are going to be tough but I have my fingers crossed we can get on the front foot with a win today…not going to do much else but watch soccer for the next two weeks…but I did get a ride in today and my back doesn’t hurt so that’s cool…more later…
