I have a question…

Well..with the tragedy that happened off Japan the other day with one of our destroyers colliding with a container ship resulting in  the death of 7 American sailors, I have one question: how the heck did the collision happen? The modern American destroyer has one of the worlds most powerful radars on it that can track hundreds of targets at once…how did they miss something as huge as a modern container ship? There has to be more to this story that I won’t speculate on until the investigation is over….just curious, I guess….

Memorial Day…..

Well…this one could turn into a rant if I let it…but, I’m not sure if I should…with it being memorial day, I just watched a film about a couple of volunteer nurses that worked with a military doctor in the town of Bastogne during the battle of the bulge and I am just struck by the bravery and sacrifice these two women made…and their dignity doing it…one of them was killed taking care of wounded American soldiers when the Germans bombed the makeshift hospital where she was working and the other was gravely wounded…but she was back on the line the next day, working with the only doctor for the entire division that was defending the town…I see this kind of bravery is still being shown by our military to this day and it makes me howl with anger at the bloated monster who sits in the WH….who thinks he is worthy of being their commander in chief…they deserve better…we deserve better and the world deserves better….impeach….

RIP Gregg Allman….

Well…another one of these that I hate to do…Gregg Allman died today at the age of 69….He lived a pretty hard life…maybe not hard but the life of a blues man…with all that comes with that….I first came to listen to the Allman brothers on their album “Brothers and Sisters” that I still have a vinyl copy of, but it was the album “Live at the Fillmore East” that showed what they were really about….Gregg on the Hammond B-3 and his brother Duane on guitar along with Dickie Betts and Barry Oakley…..it is still one of my favorite albums and I still listen to songs from it every day on my bike rides….their live version of “Stormy Monday” on that album is still one of the best I’ve ever heard…capturing the new southern blues rock sound that was theirs and others only copied…my favorite from that album, though, is “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” a 12 minute instrumental that went through every genre from rock to blues to jazz, all captured in that one song that showcases the two drummers that the band uses to great effect….I think I’ll have to play that right now…RIP Gregg…..

Just some noodling…

Well…no big stuff in the news today so I think I just put down some random thoughts that have been running into and out of my head all day today….3.76 billion dollars…that is the estimated cost cost of the “bathroom bill” or HB2 that was passed to discriminate against transgender people in North Carolina…I wonder if the folks that voted for these repub idiots wanted to pay that much to discriminate…yeah, probably some of them did…13 golf trips…in two months…and the idiot trump went on and on about Obama golfing…and, at 3 million per trip, that’s almost 40 million dollars the taxpayers have already had to foot the bill for…oh, and it took Obama two years to golf that many times…and trump promised to “never leave the White House”…..I did get a bike ride in today….but it was damn cold and I had no energy….need to eat more today…was even dizzy at times so the blood sugar must have been low….or I still have the little bug I had…okay…I’ll blame it on that…more later…

RIP Chuck Berry

Well…forgot to do this one yesterday…if you haven’t heard, Chuck Berry died yesterday…I’m sure some of you youngsters don’t even know who Chuck was but he was a pioneer of rock and roll whose influence was wide and deep…I remember the first time I heard “Mabelline” and the drive and pace of that song was something to hear and was different than anything else out there at the time….haven’t listened to much Chuck lately but I think I’ll have to make a day of it today…RIP Chuck….

International women’s day…

Well….almost forgot that today is International Women’s Day…a day to celebrate women and their accomplishments across the world and to make the world know that there is still a long way to go until women have full equality in all parts of life. I’ve never understood why the repubs of his country spend all their time trying to make sure women are second class citizens, trying to make sure they can’t control their own bodies or get equal pay for equal work….I understand the value that women have had in my life…how knowing them and trying to understand them have made me a better person….Okay, don’t want to make this one too political and I won’t…I just want to say I appreciate the women who have  come into and gone out of my life over the years…I have learned a lot from you and I just want to say thank you….

Add another one to the B-3 count…

Well…sitting here watching a Santana show on AXS tv and what do I see? It’s a Hammond B-3 but it is not like any one I have seen before…it looks like a portable model…doesn’t look like furniture like a normal B-3 but looks like the B-3 double keyboard and stops but sits on a metal stand…it does have “Hammond” in huge letters on the front of it and sounds like a B-3 so I’ll add another one to the B-3 count….
