Well…one of the most remarkable things I have seen in quite a while just happened…the US is through to the round of 16 in the World Cup! This is something that no one in the world thought could even happen with the US being in the “group of death” that had Germany and Portugal in it…and also included our nemesis, Ghana, who have put us out in the last two cups….I am so relieved but more than that…I’ve been a soccer geek for the past 20 years and have endured the ridicule that the US has gotten around the world and it makes me feel good that we can compete with the best of the world…even England and Spain went home in the group stage…now, it is going to be a long wait until the 5th when we play Belgium in the knockout round…but, I can bask a little for the gritty performances I’ve seen from our team…good job!

June 26th
Well…it was an okay day yesterday but I didn’t do much…just the normal stuff and some more cleaning around here…slept okay and with it being day 4 of being good, I feel okay today but it is going to be a long one…at least until noon when the US match starts…have the grocery run and then have to go out to the SoS office to get my license and plates renewed…that should take an hour or so and might make it a little tight getting back here on time…going to have to move the bike ride back to the aft after the game….and will be happy or depressed so whatever it is, the bike ride will help….other than that, not much to do today….going to continue to straighten this place out but that is about it….more later…
The Supreme Court finally gets one right…
Well…as I sit here waiting for the Hobby Lobby decision to be announced, one that I am sure they are going to get wrong and grant corporations religious rights, the court did get one right today when they ruled that police need a warrant to search a person’s cell phone when they are arrested, which raises the bar and makes police do their jobs versus fishing to see if they just might be something they can use on your phone. The decision was another milestone in that the court ruled unanimously that the phone is now the equivalent of a person’s “papers” that explicitly are singled out in the fourth amendment to need a warrant to be searched. I am going to enjoy this one for the short time it takes for HL to be released…then, I’ll come back an comment on that one….more later

Well…it was an okay day yesterday and I got a bunch of stuff done…the replacement equipment came and I got that set up so we’ll see how it works…and I did get some cleaning done, too, so I was much more productive than normal and I hope to continue that today…I do need to get out and get my hair cut since I have to renew my license this week and want to try to look a little less ragged than I look now….slept okay last night but still tossing and turning…just one night of good sleep would be really cool….not much to do today…going to continue cleaning around here and get a few more things done but that is about it…and watch the last few first round soccer matches….more later…
Water is a human right….
Well…just read that, with the blessing of our wonderful governor, Rick Snyder, the city of Detroit is going to start shutting off the water to people who can’t pay their water bills…and the estimate is that there will be 3,000 homes and businesses per week…yep, per week that will lose their service…and now, since our gov won’t do anything, there are organizations the have had to appeal to the UN to get the US to adhere to the treaties we have signed that say you just can’t do that, that water is a human right and that it can’t be shut off for profit. But, that is what Detroit is doing…as part of the “grand bargain” to try to save Detroit that was just signed by Snyder…the Detroit water department has to cut it’s costs and one way that they will do it is by not supplying water to people who can’t pay. What the hell kind of country do we live in when you can continue to give tax cuts to the rich so there are no tax revenues left to fix the schools, fix the roads, or provide life saving water to the citizens? This is the repub dream in action folks…if you can’t pay, you die…geez…
June 24th
Well…it was kind of a lazy day yesterday with not being able to get out on the bike with all of the rain and having a few things to do around here…and today might be the same since it is raining now and there is a huge blob of rain that is aimed right at GR that stretches all the way back to the middle of Indiana….I am hoping that I can get out later since two days off the bike is just too much…slept okay last night…but only my okay….one of these days I am going to get a full night’s sleep and then I can die happy…I am getting a little nervous about the match Thurs but I just have to look at it as I do when the Wings go out of the playoffs…I will still be broke on Friday and unemployed so I guess it really doesn’t matter….not much to do today….I do have stuff to do around here and I am waiting for the the new equipment to get here so I can get that sorted…and I am going to get the papers out to recycle….maybe I’ll bleach some whites, too…who knows?
Disappointing…
Well…haven’t come up with anything to write about in politics so I guess I’ll do a little more sports…it was a disappointing day yesterday with the US tying Portugal when it looked like they were going to win until the last minute…so, that makes the chances of us getting through to the next round pretty slim…have to beat Germany Thursday, which is not going to happen, or tie them, which may happen, or lose to them and then let the math and tie breakers drive us nuts until the Ghana/Portugal match ends. Not going to be a good day Thursday but I guess we can look at it that we tried hard and looked better than expected….not sure if I’ll watch the rest of the matches but I’ve invested too much time to quit now….I just hope Brazil loses this aft and makes it interesting…more later…
June 23rd
Well…it was an okay day yesterday but I am disappointed about the US tying Portugal…but, that will be another post later today…slept okay and feel okay today but I shouldn’t…it was a cocktail night, after all, so I am a little confused…and, it look like it is going to start raining in a few minutes so the bike ride will have to be put off until later…the brain is not working too well and I really don’t have anything to say right now…I do have to get some cleaning done today and a few other things but it is going to be another one of those slow mo days where I just let things happen…more later…
World cup part two….
Well…it has been a fun world cup so far and most of the matches have been good ones, no real blow outs but a bunch of surprises with Spain not going to make the round of 16 and the US having the possibility of getting through with today’s game. I am starting to get pretty excited about it but with Portugal losing it’s first match, I think they will come out much harder than they did against Germany. if they do that, we could be in trouble….but, there are a couple of ways we can get in…tie today’s match and then tie Germany Friday…or, if we lose, we need to beat Germany and I just don’t see that happening. So, today’s match is going to be a nail biter but if we play like we can, we’ll have a chance…not sure if I can take the stress….
June 22nd
Well…it was an okay day yesterday and it was fun to get out and have one with J and K…but, that set me up to overdo it last night so I am feeling it today…it will be a slow recovery this morning until I can get out on the bike…it was pretty cool to have a late storm last night but that made me stay up much later than I wanted to….slept okay but no dreams to speak of….the soccer was great yesterday and I am expecting the same today with the US playing later….it has been a fun tournament so far and we just need one more win to get through…but Portugal? Not going to be easy….not much jto do today…F1 now and then the bike ride but that is about it…going to just let the day unfold and wing it….more later…
