Well…damn, I feel so much better this morning after getting back on track with being good last night…and I slept okay…got up at 5:34 but that’s okay with hitting the sack early….and it’s Sunday! This is quickly becoming my favorite day of the week with not getting on the bike and just doing whatever I want all day….had a good day yesterday but the bike ride was really a hard one with not feeling so hot…and I didn’t do much which was a good start to my week off that isn’t going to be a week off…I know myself well enough to know that I won’t even get through today without doing some cleaning downstairs and that’s okay since it will get me closer to having it done…and I really like how clean the dust room area came out and I have a space to get everything organized now…I do need to get a new mop head or mop this week since I need one for upstairs, too…I can’t wait for this damn cold weather to moderate some…it’s only 11 degrees out there and the door going into the garage was frozen closed and I had to lean on it to get it to open…at least the lock worked this time and I didn’t have to get my torch to melt the ice…probably should wd it later today when I go out to do the snow…not much to do today…just the snow and watching some Olympics along with the super bowl later…and I’m making a home made pizza for lunch and it’s nice to have my dining room table cleared for prep finally….going to make a mess but that’s okay…have only done homemade pizza once since I’ve been out here and that is too long….more later…

Have to wait on the dentist…
Well…it looks like I’ll have to wait on the dentist until Monday since I need to find one who will take my Medicare insurance…just remembered today that I have some dental insurance on my advantage plan that will cover two cleanings and one set of x-rays every year and that should save me almost 300 bucks before they start on the rest of the work I need done…but I can’t find out til Monday who out here will take Medicare so everything’s on hold for a couple of days…the pain is not nearly as bad today so I can live with it for a few more days….and I’ll just sit here and hope it doesn’t get worse until then…darn…
This is harder than I thought it would be…
Well…I can make a fist with both hands! That is something I didn’t think I would be able to do for weeks after all of the abuse I did to them working on the kitchen cabinets…but, they are still cracked everywhere and that hurts as much as the muscle pain…but, that’s not what this is about…as you know, I have planned to take a week off working to heal everything that hurts after the kitchen work…but, it’s 9:20 on the first day of my week off and I’ve already run out of things that I wanted to do…I’ve always had problems taking it easy…it’s just not me but I have to figure out how to do it as I get older and the work wears on my body more…I know, hard problem to have, huh? I suppose I could just go back to work on the downstairs since there is still dust to clean up but I still have rashes from the dust and I need those to clear before I head back into it again…okay, done whining…for now…more later….
February 12th
Well…that was a huge, huge mistake…had just one cocktail last night and my stomach feels like I was drinking acid all night…and I didn’t sleep well at all so that is the last time I’ll ever think about doing that…I guess you have to go back to feeling bad to understand how good you feel taking care of yourself…so I am going to suffer all day today and take it easy until I feel better…I really can’t imagine having 3 cocktails in a night anymore…don’t know what I was thinking going all that time abusing my body….I did get a few things done yesterday and it does feel good to have my coffee table fixed and to have a clean living room but I’m not doing much today with how I feel…I am glad I got the snow cleared yesterday when it was warm since it is only 18 out there right now and all of the slush has turned into a block of ice….and it looks like we have one final storm coming in on Thursday of next week that is going to dump about 8 inches of snow on us out here so I’ll have to plan for that one…it hasn’t been a bad winter out here and the temps appear to be moderating for most of the week and will be up around 40 for most of the week…okay, nope that has changed and it looks like a normal Feb week with highs in the 20’s until late in the week…darn…not much to do today…just the bike ride and then taking it easy for the day…I am still going to try to take the week off and shut off the guilts for a while…more later…
Breaking the dry time tonight…
Well…crap…have had a tooth screaming at me all day and can’t get in to the dentist until Tuesday so it looks like I may be breaking the dry month tonight to deal with the pain if the orajel and ibuprofen doesn’t do it…crap, and crap again….I had planned to get on the dental work this week since I’m taking the week off and I know I’ve needed it for a long time but I really wanted to do it on my schedule …but maybe it’s a good thing I’m being forced to get started on it…it is going to cost multiple thousands to get everything done but I may as well get started on it so I can finally eat something cold or hot without pain…and they need to remove the molar that has been loose for years and start figuring out if I need to put an implant in to replace it…and that will be thousands more so maybe I won’t be able to afford another Miata this year…crap again…oh, well…
Got the living room done…
Well…yeah, okay…I am cheating a little to get the post count up and try to keep pace with the record number I did last month…but, with three days less this month, I won’t make it but I’ll keep trying so who knows? The living room has been bugging the heck out of me for the past few weeks with all of the dust and neglect that lead to the black tv and tv stand turning grey with all of the dust…and the couch cushions were all wonky with being out of shape with me not rotating them for over a month…and it too was covered in dust and I vacuumed the whole thing and now it looks new again…and I washed the floors on my hands and knees since my mop self destructed doing the basement floor the other day and I had to do them by hand…but it is cool that it is only a little after 11 and I am done for the day other than putting the laundry away that I am doing right now….as I said yesterday, it is really nice to have some semblance of organization in here again but I still have some more to do that will have to wait a while…I need to finish the coffee and make some lunch in a bit but I am going to enjoy my work a bit first and watch some Olympics….and maybe do another one of these later…after all, I’ve got all day…
February 11th
Well…this kind of sucks a little…not how I slept…but I did wake up at 3:20 and didn’t get out of bed til 6:22…what sucks is that we got about 4 inches of the first really heavy, wet snow out here last night that I am going to have to shovel after I get done with the bike ride…but, all I have to do is take my time and I’ll get it done…and my coffee table fell apart last night when the mounting for one of the legs broke off and I had to glue it back on overnight…it appears that I have it fixed but I wonder why it just broke off with no warning…it’s not like I sit on it or put any other stress on it but it is over 20 years old so I guess it was time for it to fail…darn, I’m running late this morning since it is already time for me to get on the bike and I don’t have this done or have my first cup of coffee down…so I guess I’ll have to get my butt in gear here in a few minutes….I did get a lot done with the cleanup yesterday and today is living room day and I am finally going to get the dust out of here and clean the couch and switch the cushions to even out the wear….the wind is blowing like crazy out here again today and it is warm out there at 37 already and the weather is going to be a little crazy with the temp going down and up for the next week from 20 to almost 50 but it looks like no big snow after today….not much to do today…just the bike and cleaning and I’m really not sure if I can take the week off I planned to start tomorrow…will probably still do some small things to organize the basement and finish getting everything put away up here…more later…
This is nice…
Well…after cleaning up and putting everything away today, it is really nice to walk around here with not stepping on an extension cord or anything else from the kitchen work…and this place seems so much bigger without all of the totes, pots and pans, and food everywhere….and the downstairs is cleaner than it has been in the almost year since I moved in here and that is pretty cool…but I really do want to take some time off after the 6 weeks of daily work I had to do to get the kitchen done….and that is going to happen starting Saturday morning since I think I can get everything else done tomorrow including clearing out the spare bedroom so I can start working on that sometime soon…but not for at least a week…or more since I do want to complete the kitchen before I start on any new projects….with the kitchen almost done, the rest of the work I need to do doesn’t seem so daunting and I am hoping to get the dining room and living room painted before summer…maybe I’ll start that before the bedroom? The dining room should be pretty easy with only the windows and the baseboards to do before I paint the walls…and they only need to be cleaned before I can paint them so it should be easy…now it’s time to take the rest of the day off…still on the no cocktail thing and today makes 38 days of being good but I still don’t know how long it’s going to last…we’ll see….
Got some cleanup done…
Well…I really didn’t know that I would have just as much work to do cleaning up as I did repairing the cabinets in the kitchen…and I didn’t think it would hurt my hands as much as that work did either….I did have to run an errand this morning to get some pepperoni that they didn’t have yesterday so I can make a pizza this weekend but then the cleanup started in earnest…had to wash all of the dishes that I wanted to put in the cupboards and I am on the 4th load of those but I think I’m done with that for the day…and I vacuumed the basement floor again this morning to get the dust I missed yesterday and then mopped it so I can start using the space again without tracking dust all over the place…then, on to the dining room where I had to organize my work materials and get rid of the trash in there that had built up from using it for a work area for weeks….and then vacuumed that floor and washed it and the dining set since it was covered in a thick film of dust…and, even though my hands felt okay when I got up, they hurt as bad as they did when I was working on the cabinets and the stiffness has returned making typing this painful on every stroke…so, the living room is going to wait til tomorrow even though the dust coating is bugging the hell out of me…I was supposed to be able to take a week off but I sure couldn’t do that with the house so dusty and messy so maybe I can start that after I finish up the dust removal tomorrow…sure hope so, I am worn out….
February 10th
Well…that was a little better….slept okay and didn’t toss and turn much and feel okay this morning but, when I look at my right hand, it looks like I have been in a bare knuckle fight with all of the cuts and bruises on it….it does feel a little better and not as stiff this morning so I’ll take that…and it gives me hope that rest will make it usable again…I did finish the kitchen cabinets yesterday and started to fill them back up with my dishes and food and it is kind of cool to not work out of totes anymore…but I will need to complete that today so I can clear off my dining room table since I want to make a pizza in a couple of days and need it to press the homemade dough out before I put it on my pizza pan…and I was bad and bought some brats yesterday since they were on sale and I had a taste for them….I do need to run out to Meijers on Sternberg this morning since the one over here was out of pepperoni and it just isn’t pizza without pepperoni…it is pretty cool that my grocery bill has gone down from around 60 bucks a week to 20 with not buying cocktail materials anymore….almost had a cocktail last night, though, to celebrate getting the major work done in the kitchen but I am so used to not doing it that it has become a habit and that is pretty cool…not much to do today…just the bike ride and then more cleaning today with the patina of dust that everything has in the upstairs and I need to continue to clean downstairs, too…it looks pretty good where I had the dust room in the basement and it has never been cleaner…I did have to laugh how the dust highlighted the cobwebs that were in the floor joists but I got them all removed and will have to do that for the entire basement to make me happy….and it just looks good clean…I even cleaned the water heater, furnace, and water meter yesterday along with the water and gas pipes in that area and it sets a standard that I want to continue for the rest of the basement….more later….
