Well…crap…have had a tooth screaming at me all day and can’t get in to the dentist until Tuesday so it looks like I may be breaking the dry month tonight to deal with the pain if the orajel and ibuprofen doesn’t do it…crap, and crap again….I had planned to get on the dental work this week since I’m taking the week off and I know I’ve needed it for a long time but I really wanted to do it on my schedule …but maybe it’s a good thing I’m being forced to get started on it…it is going to cost multiple thousands to get everything done but I may as well get started on it so I can finally eat something cold or hot without pain…and they need to remove the molar that has been loose for years and start figuring out if I need to put an implant in to replace it…and that will be thousands more so maybe I won’t be able to afford another Miata this year…crap again…oh, well…

Got the living room done…
Well…yeah, okay…I am cheating a little to get the post count up and try to keep pace with the record number I did last month…but, with three days less this month, I won’t make it but I’ll keep trying so who knows? The living room has been bugging the heck out of me for the past few weeks with all of the dust and neglect that lead to the black tv and tv stand turning grey with all of the dust…and the couch cushions were all wonky with being out of shape with me not rotating them for over a month…and it too was covered in dust and I vacuumed the whole thing and now it looks new again…and I washed the floors on my hands and knees since my mop self destructed doing the basement floor the other day and I had to do them by hand…but it is cool that it is only a little after 11 and I am done for the day other than putting the laundry away that I am doing right now….as I said yesterday, it is really nice to have some semblance of organization in here again but I still have some more to do that will have to wait a while…I need to finish the coffee and make some lunch in a bit but I am going to enjoy my work a bit first and watch some Olympics….and maybe do another one of these later…after all, I’ve got all day…
February 11th
Well…this kind of sucks a little…not how I slept…but I did wake up at 3:20 and didn’t get out of bed til 6:22…what sucks is that we got about 4 inches of the first really heavy, wet snow out here last night that I am going to have to shovel after I get done with the bike ride…but, all I have to do is take my time and I’ll get it done…and my coffee table fell apart last night when the mounting for one of the legs broke off and I had to glue it back on overnight…it appears that I have it fixed but I wonder why it just broke off with no warning…it’s not like I sit on it or put any other stress on it but it is over 20 years old so I guess it was time for it to fail…darn, I’m running late this morning since it is already time for me to get on the bike and I don’t have this done or have my first cup of coffee down…so I guess I’ll have to get my butt in gear here in a few minutes….I did get a lot done with the cleanup yesterday and today is living room day and I am finally going to get the dust out of here and clean the couch and switch the cushions to even out the wear….the wind is blowing like crazy out here again today and it is warm out there at 37 already and the weather is going to be a little crazy with the temp going down and up for the next week from 20 to almost 50 but it looks like no big snow after today….not much to do today…just the bike and cleaning and I’m really not sure if I can take the week off I planned to start tomorrow…will probably still do some small things to organize the basement and finish getting everything put away up here…more later…
This is nice…
Well…after cleaning up and putting everything away today, it is really nice to walk around here with not stepping on an extension cord or anything else from the kitchen work…and this place seems so much bigger without all of the totes, pots and pans, and food everywhere….and the downstairs is cleaner than it has been in the almost year since I moved in here and that is pretty cool…but I really do want to take some time off after the 6 weeks of daily work I had to do to get the kitchen done….and that is going to happen starting Saturday morning since I think I can get everything else done tomorrow including clearing out the spare bedroom so I can start working on that sometime soon…but not for at least a week…or more since I do want to complete the kitchen before I start on any new projects….with the kitchen almost done, the rest of the work I need to do doesn’t seem so daunting and I am hoping to get the dining room and living room painted before summer…maybe I’ll start that before the bedroom? The dining room should be pretty easy with only the windows and the baseboards to do before I paint the walls…and they only need to be cleaned before I can paint them so it should be easy…now it’s time to take the rest of the day off…still on the no cocktail thing and today makes 38 days of being good but I still don’t know how long it’s going to last…we’ll see….
Got some cleanup done…
Well…I really didn’t know that I would have just as much work to do cleaning up as I did repairing the cabinets in the kitchen…and I didn’t think it would hurt my hands as much as that work did either….I did have to run an errand this morning to get some pepperoni that they didn’t have yesterday so I can make a pizza this weekend but then the cleanup started in earnest…had to wash all of the dishes that I wanted to put in the cupboards and I am on the 4th load of those but I think I’m done with that for the day…and I vacuumed the basement floor again this morning to get the dust I missed yesterday and then mopped it so I can start using the space again without tracking dust all over the place…then, on to the dining room where I had to organize my work materials and get rid of the trash in there that had built up from using it for a work area for weeks….and then vacuumed that floor and washed it and the dining set since it was covered in a thick film of dust…and, even though my hands felt okay when I got up, they hurt as bad as they did when I was working on the cabinets and the stiffness has returned making typing this painful on every stroke…so, the living room is going to wait til tomorrow even though the dust coating is bugging the hell out of me…I was supposed to be able to take a week off but I sure couldn’t do that with the house so dusty and messy so maybe I can start that after I finish up the dust removal tomorrow…sure hope so, I am worn out….
February 10th
Well…that was a little better….slept okay and didn’t toss and turn much and feel okay this morning but, when I look at my right hand, it looks like I have been in a bare knuckle fight with all of the cuts and bruises on it….it does feel a little better and not as stiff this morning so I’ll take that…and it gives me hope that rest will make it usable again…I did finish the kitchen cabinets yesterday and started to fill them back up with my dishes and food and it is kind of cool to not work out of totes anymore…but I will need to complete that today so I can clear off my dining room table since I want to make a pizza in a couple of days and need it to press the homemade dough out before I put it on my pizza pan…and I was bad and bought some brats yesterday since they were on sale and I had a taste for them….I do need to run out to Meijers on Sternberg this morning since the one over here was out of pepperoni and it just isn’t pizza without pepperoni…it is pretty cool that my grocery bill has gone down from around 60 bucks a week to 20 with not buying cocktail materials anymore….almost had a cocktail last night, though, to celebrate getting the major work done in the kitchen but I am so used to not doing it that it has become a habit and that is pretty cool…not much to do today…just the bike ride and then more cleaning today with the patina of dust that everything has in the upstairs and I need to continue to clean downstairs, too…it looks pretty good where I had the dust room in the basement and it has never been cleaner…I did have to laugh how the dust highlighted the cobwebs that were in the floor joists but I got them all removed and will have to do that for the entire basement to make me happy….and it just looks good clean…I even cleaned the water heater, furnace, and water meter yesterday along with the water and gas pipes in that area and it sets a standard that I want to continue for the rest of the basement….more later….
Got the kitchen cabinets done…
Well….damn, that took a long time and lots and lots of work but it is finally done…not the whole kitchen, that will take another couple of weeks…after I take some time off to let my hands heal so they don’t keep me up all night again…but the kitchen cabinets are complete after putting the pulls on the drawers and putting them in…and putting the new blinds up on the window over the sink…oh, and cleaning the windows and the other two sets of blinds that were coated in dust…and that is a pain in the butt having to do each slat individually but it’s done and they are re-hung and look pretty damn good…so, am I going to take the rest of the day off? Ha, ha…no…I almost did but I really do want to get started on the dust room downstairs…won’t get it all done today but I’ll get a start at it and then cleaning is all I have to do for a week or so as I take it easy for my poor body…when I was cutting down a screw to make it fit in the top drawer’s thin head using my grinder with a cutoff wheel, I cut off a bunch of skin on my left hand this time so there is even more to heal….but, right now all I want to do is finish my coffee and make a marinated chicken leg quarter with some asparagus that was on sale for 1.49 a pound at Meijers today…I need a break….more later….
Almost done…
Well…after eating dust for another day and finally getting the drawers painted with two coats, I can say I’m almost done with the kitchen…kitchen cabinets that is and will put the handles on them tomorrow and put them in their places…and I even got the last set of blinds today and can clean the window and install them tomorrow…and then two weeks of cleaning up downstairs and up here since I can leave trails in the dust everywhere and that can’t be healthy for me after the rashes I got from dust exposure the past few days…I did have a nice lunch with my brother today and that in itself was weird…went down to the no name saloon just down the street where you can get a burger, fries, and a beer for 6 bucks for lunch and I even picked up the tab…talking about the two new houses going up across the street, he mentioned that he thinks my house on this double lot is worth 140K now…and if that’s true, I’ve made 50K on this place since I bought it a year ago…. and that gives me almost 90K in equity…and that’s not bad with being broke 3 years ago…and that gets me well over my goal of having over 100K in assets that I thought I wouldn’t get to for a few years at least…so that makes me pretty comfortable and I am really looking forward to the week off after I clean this place up….life isn’t bad…
February 8th
Well…the pain in my hands has finally gotten to the point that it is keeping me up at night even with taking an ibuprofen to try to make it tolerable…and I have one last day of abuse to load on them to finish the drawers today…I have decided to take a week or so off after today to let them heal up and the place needs a huge cleanup anyway with the dust I spread around fitting up the doors yesterday…I am looking forward to tearing down the dust room downstairs and getting that cleaned up in the next couple of days…the last set of blinds for the kitchen are out for delivery so I may get them today and that will be a project for tomorrow to install them but that means I need to get the window inset cleaned up and wash the window but I’ll wait til I get the brackets up before I do that so I only have to clean once…okay, that’s enough about the house…this is a little weird but I find myself enjoying going out to shovel the snow and getting some fresh air while I use new muscles that I don’t use working on the house….it seems just so old fashioned to have my sidewalks clear and not done with some kind of power equipment…I am thinking about buying a work bench to put downstairs so I can mount my vise to it and have a place to work on things…not sure where I’d put it but it could go in the space I’m using for the dust room or in the bike room…I saw a nice one online for about 150 bucks with two levels and other features that would make it handy….but, I burned a couple of grand this month with paying my property taxes and my house insurance along with all of the stuff I needed for the house so that will have to wait a while…not much to do today…just the drawers and starting on cleanup…and I think I’ll start putting the food back into the upper cupboards but it all needs to be sorted and cleaned first…and I need to toss stuff that has been in there for a year….more later…
Still drinking coffee at 2pm..
Well…I came to a decision today…I am not doing another house…after doing my son’s for 15 months and getting straight into this one for a year now, it has me drinking coffee at 2 in the afternoon after working on this place for 5 hours today…but I am down to one more day of eating dust and I am really happy about that…made a damn big mess today fitting up the last 4 doors in the kitchen..I didn’t remember how bad they were when I took them off and I probably should have fit them up before I painted them…had to use my grinder and a flap disc to take off enough wood to make them close so that means I need to repaint the edges of the doors where I had to cut them down to make them fit…but, not today…I made such a mess in the kitchen with all of the dust and wood chips that I had an hour of clean up to do after sanding the big patch and some other filler…I am worn out and in pain so I am going to finish my coffee and take a break for a bit…looks like another one meal day since it’s too late for lunch and too early for dinner so I may just make some rye toast and call it good…I’ll be back later for a political one….I hope…
