Well…do you hear that? It’s the quiet sound of competence that Joe is bringing to all parts of the of the government…no fanfare, no boasting, no fighting, no name calling and guess what? Over 70% of the country likes what he’s doing and that even includes a lot of repubs that haven’t drunk the qanon koolaid….now, how long will that last? Who knows but one thing that I am a little pissed about is the damn MSM like the NYT who are questioning the use of executive orders to reverse the damage that idiot boy did with his…saying he is using them too much…look, Joe has been in office for 9 days and they are already bitching? Especially for protecting the DACA young adults who just want to have some stability in their lives and to know that ICE is not going to show up at their college and put them on a plane to a country they have never been to? All of the things Joe has done with EO’s have to been to root out the racist and homophobic bullshit that trump was doing with them and protecting Americans from discrimination like the ban on trans people serving in the military. Gee, I guess it’s hard for the media to understand that what Joe is doing is what the people want done, not just the rich or corporations…what the people want…now that’s a strange concept that the media just doesn’t understand….

The media can’t do math….
Well…I really do wonder if most of the media are just stupid or if they are getting paid off to push the repub candidates. Just today, Andrea Mitchell went on her show to tout the fact that the dementia suffering trump raised 45 million dollars in the last quarter of 2019 and that it is more than any dem candidate and the dems are in trouble…yadda yadda…first…apple and damn oranges Andrea…trump is raising money for the general election while the dems are raising it for the primary season but, lets do some math and lump all of the dems together and see what the results are…with just the three that have reported so far, the dems have raised over 77 million dollars and that is without either Biden or Warren included…and their number should be close to 25 million each so, again, do we need to give the media a math lesson? Which is larger, dementia sufferer trump’s 45 million or 77 million+50 million? I’ll give you a guess but just one…yep, you got it…127 million is larger than 45 million but it seems that the media doesn’t get it. I think it’s just more of the “horserace” bullshit that the media has to push to keep the right wingers happy and continue to get access to the repubs…and that’s it….this isn’t a damn horserace, it’s the future of our country and the future of truth in our country…media, quit this bullshit and report dementia trump’s fundraising as anemic as it is….something like “dems smash trump in fundraising” would do it….and the bonus? It’s the truth so it’s a two-fer….geez….
The media is in the tank…
Well…I am so damn frustrated with the media lately and the low, low bar they set for the Donald…a bar so low that I heard one pundit describe it as a paint line on the parking lot….that was shown in all it’s glory yesterday with the idiot’s trip to Mexico when they said he looked “presidential” by just standing there and looking like the idiot he is…and none of the media called out his lies when he said that the subject of the wall he wants to build never came up…and then the president of Mexico made a statement that it did…who are you going to believe? The serial liar, Trump, or the president of Mexico? And after all that “presidential” nonsense…ole Donald gave the most racist, crazy speech that he has ever given and lied some more saying that Mexico will pay for the wall “100%”. Now, I know the media has a vested interest in keeping the race close, but to be deliberately in the tank for one candidate, especially one who is so insane as Trump, is just journalistic malpractice writ large….geez….

Well…the thin-skinned idiot is at it again…okay, I know, I promised to not write about little Donnie Trump anymore but damn, when you have such a target rich environment, you just have to especially when I need to get two of these out every day…and really, it is fun to poke at this moron and his moronic campaign. The latest in this mess is ole Donnie’s attack on the media since he thinks they do nothing but lie…and boy, does he know about lying….his new bitch is that since the media reports on the stupid things he says and does, he is behind Hillary when he thinks he would be ahead by 20 points if they would just stop reporting. Yeah…don’t report on the stupid shit I say because that is a “rigged” media…just go and attack Hillary or Obama since he started the war in Afghanistan when he was a state senator…there has to be something there….just go look at it…or, Benghazi, or birth certificate….or, or, or….you get the gist of it…..his rallies are so biggly that he has to be ahead but it is the “rigged” polls that are wrong….oh, that’s another line from today…I am really kind of enjoying this idiot blowhard’s self-destruction….almost as interesting as the Olympics…sad….
The sad state of politics…
Well…never in my life have I seen what is happening now on the US political scene…a major political party nominating the biggest liar there has ever been in politics? Ole Donald doesn’t just lie one day and then the next, but the lies can and do come in every sentence and he contradicts himself from one word to the next….and his supporters don’t care since they have been unleashed to be the racist bigots they always were but, before Trump, the society curtailed some of the behaviors that we now see at every Trump rally…that it was not okay to call people racist epithets but now Trump does it so it must be okay. What do you do with a candidate who has no shame, who doesn’t care that he lies, who doesn’t care who he hurts, who doesn’t care how many people he puts out of work…and what do you do with a media who is so ratings driven that they let Trump lie and lie with no threat of stopping his wall to wall coverage….I have been troubled by the demise of traditional media for many years now…and the disappearance of any reporter who will call bullshit on the idiots who have been allowed to lie repeatedly and rot this country from the inside…not sure what can be done….
Maybe the tide is turning….
Well…it has been a while since I really had something to say about politics and you might say I’ve never had anything to say about it but I have to disagree….there was an interesting article last week in the WAPO by Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein that elaborated on what I have been saying for a couple of years now…that there is not any equivalence between the radicalism on the right and left…..even though the media, in some misguided paen to fairness, has been treating them as the same; that the dems are as responsible for the poisonous politics that now rule in Washington when it is just not true….in instance after instance, it has been the right who has held the country hostage to their radical, crazy worldview…I think one of my favorite passages in the article goes like this “the republicans are unmoved by the conventional understanding of facts, evidence, and science…” sounds like willful ignorance to me, where faith trumps facts and political gain is placed above all else…even the good of the country. So, we may be seeing the first cracks in the wall of lies that the right has used to dupe the middle class into voting for them…my fear is that they have done such a good job demonizing “facts” that we may already be lost….geez….
A few more things…
Well…it has been such a huge pain that there is nothing really going on in the world, or at least politically here….haven’t had any topics that have really grabbed me and gotten the old outrage machine in my head going…but, of course, you see that and I have been looking really hard for work and that does take some time. There is one thing that did kind of materialize over the past couple of days..or I remembered it…I think I thought about this a couple of weeks ago but all of my ram is being used for other things and I have to forget something for something new to come in. I think the divide that is becoming permanent in this country is partially the fault of the segmented media and the fact that with the explosion of choice in the media and the blatant disregard for the truth in some of them, we can select media that only reinforces the ideas we already have…avoiding anything that can challenge those beliefs and give us the other side of the story. When I was growing up, news outlets prided themselves in their objectivity and tackling issues that were important to all of us…with a more eclectic mix of stories from both the US and around the world. I have even stopped watching the news since it is so superficial these days, being dumbed down since the people running the shows have been led to believe that it is more entertainment than informative. I fear that this is leading us to a permanent state of divide where our differences are the story; not the things that we Americans have in common….don’t know what to do about it….
Some questions..
Well…I’m really glad the election is over but there was one thing (there was more than one thing but this is what I want to deal with right now) that disappointed me so much about the media and it’s reporting on the people and ideas that were part of it. It seems to me that this election was one of “narratives” that took on a life of their own and were aided by a lazy media that was all too eager to use this shorthand in lieu of real reporting. The greatest example of this lack of rigor was the theme that this was a change election and the people were revolting against the Obama Administration’s policies when that was only true on the right…the real reason for the change that happened was that we progressives were lazy getting out to vote and somewhat smug in the fact that we believed our message was the best one and needed no explanation. This, along with the shortcuts of the media, allowed the right to dominate the story of the election that continues even after the data is available to refute this bundle of lies and wishful thinking.
This lack of rigor on the part of the media was evident in the vetting of the candidates like Christine O’Donnell and Sharron Angle whose lack of qualifications were glossed over by the media who were only interested in being right in projecting the Republican “tidal wave” even though their job is to do the hard work and provide the unbiased information that the people need to make informed decisions. What happened to the story on O’Donnell’s reported income of only $9,000 for the past two years? I know it’s hard for me to live on significantly more than $4,500 a year and I have no expenses. But, this story would make people think and the media have the wrongheaded idea that people won’t understand or think…that everything has to be a soundbite. I, for one, want the various forms of media to go back to the era where the facts are just reported without the thoughts of what the impact of the facts are. These days, it’s all too common that people don’t have the guts to have “the chips fall where they may” and shed some light on the dark corners of politics that money and ideology don’t want known. I hope the media do better in the next one…or they can start today…that would be a good way to return them to the importance that the founders knew…geez…
