$15 dollars an hour is too much?

Well…after a few states have passed minimum wage laws that raise the wage to a still unlivable $15 dollars an hour, we have heard the baloney hand wringing and threats from the ceo’s of many of the low wage companies that depend on not paying their workers what they are worth say that they will have to close down or move to red states where they can still take advantage of their workers. Boo frickin hoo…just read an article comparing the $15 dollar per hour wage that people have been fighting for to the ceo pay on an hourly basis and it is not pretty…all of these jerks that are whining to high heaven make…wait for it…$2,300 to $9,700 PER HOUR…yep these asses that are complaining they can’t afford to pay their workers are getting ceo welfare to the tune of millions of dollars a year…with the ceo of McDonald’s getting a 368% raise for coming up with all day breakfast…yeah…that sure was not an original thought but this idiot took credit for it and is going to siphon off million of dollars more that the company just can’t afford to pay it’s workers. I’ve had enough of coddling these guys and letting them think that they are worth what the get paid…I mean who is worth $35 million a year while his workers are starving?  Things just need to change…and the repubs won’t do it…geez….

More Walmart extortion….

Well…another day goes by, and we have another case of Walmart trying to extort another city into not raising it’s minimum wage. the city of Desert Hot springs California is considering raising the city’s minimum wage to $10.20 an hour with a dollar an hour increase for the next two years and then indexing it to inflation…not an unreasonable way to ensure that people make enough to eat and pay their rent. But, that’s just too much for Walmart who owns land in the city and has told the city council that if they pass the wage changes, the store will not be built…going so far at to take out a full page ad opposing the council saying that their 300 jobs would not happen if the ordinance is passed. Other than the fact that this is corporate thuggery at it’s worst…I’d say to them “good, keep your damn 300 jobs”….especially in light of the studies that have been done that find that every time a Walmart is built and opened it leads to a net loss of jobs in the community…and this has been shown all across the country…..and this goes along with other economic studies that peg the cost of each Walmart to the taxpayers of a million dollars a year….since they don’t pay enough for people to live on, most of their employees are on food stamps and Medicaid…so, I’d say to Walmart from any city across this country…keep your damn, poor paying jobs and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out….geez…

More lies from the right on the minimum wage…

Well…I know that the right hates anyone but the rich getting anything in the US and they have lied and lied about the effects of minimum wage increases…saying that raises eliminate jobs as businesses stop hiring..or cut jobs (which has been found to not be true in every instance)…but they just got caught out in another lie about Seattle’s 15 dollar wage that is slated to start to take effect in April…the right wing rag “The new York Post” had an editorial the other day from a couple of right wing “brains” that pounced on the fact that restaurants are closing across Seattle and they attribute it to the minimum wage that has not even taken effect yet….one little problem…they never talked to any of the owners of the restaurants that are closing to find out why….never mind that places close all the time…and open all the time…these guys just “know” that it is only the minimum wage that is causing it. When Thinkprogess talked to some of the owners that were mentioned in the Post, all of the owners said it had nothing to do with the rising MW…in fact, they all supported the rise. The one fact that the righies failed to mention is that Seattle is in the midst of a “dining boom” with many more resataurants opening than closing, with one owner, who is opening two more places this year, saying ‘opening new businesses would not be smart if they would not be successful”. So, again…the right lies, again, since they just can’t stand that someone other than them gets a leg up in the US…shame on them…
