A little sports for a change…

Well…with the eve of the Olympics upon us…I am getting excited for them to start just like I have for my entire life so I thought I’d talk about them and some other sports instead of a political one for today…so, one of the things I really hate about nbc running the show this time is the fact that they have at least half of the events on channels that I don’t get; just like when they have hockey on their sports channel that I won’t even mention because I just hate their announcers…and they hate the Red Wings. It is pretty cool to root for the US again…with the olympics you don’t have to think who you’re for, it’s always the US…there is another hierarchy that I have in my head for when the US isn’t playing but it would take too long to explain here and it changes daily so even if I did explain it, it wouldn’t be valid tomorrow…

There are other sports, too, and I am looking forward to the sports car race that is at Indy at 4 today and the other two races that happen over the weekend and there are the Tigers, too, but Verlander looked like crap last night and I was really disappointed…but, they are still near first place so I shouldn’t complain too much…okay, that’s it…I’m going to go do something else…not sure what but something…

July 27th

Well…it was a tough day yesterday and I felt terribly crappy all day…but, I feel much better today even with having cocktails last night…slept okay but didn’t get to bed until late and got up early again but, as I said yesterday, I think I’ll just start to live with it and stop thinking about not sleeping…man…the brain is not working right now so I think I’ll stop here and come back in an hour or so after coffee and the papers…

Okay, I’m back for a few more minutes after coffee, papers, and the bike ride….I got utterly soaked on the bike today when a small pop up shower caught me about 4 miles out…well…more like a deluge but it really was fun to ride in the rain with it being warm…the last time I got caught out was when the weather was about 45 degrees and that was just miserable…the bike is nice and clean and so am I…more later…

Almost forgot this one…

Well….I really laughed at the stupidity of the Romney “advisers” the other day when they made a comment before ole Mitt’s trip to England that Romney would be a better friend of England since they “shared an Anglo-Saxon heritage”…basically code words that it’s because ole Mitt is white and Obama isn’t. I laugh because there is a thriving community of citizens of color in England but I guess the repubs think of England just like they think of the US…that if you’re not rich and white, they don’t have to think about you and they have no use for you…especially if you are not a fellow repub…and, there was another thing that happened that shows that ole Mitt can only talk to his base and has no clue about how diplomacy works…as he was interviewed before the trip, he expressed concerns that England had the capability to pull off the games and insulted every Englishman in the process….do we need this idiot supporting the stereotype that Americans are stupid and full of themselves? I just can’t believe that anyone that has made so many mistakes is even close to Obama…maybe no one is paying attention….geez…

At least they’re consistent…

Well…this is going to be just a short one to comment on the whole “you didn’t build that..” flap that has been used by ole Mitt and his folks to attack Obama as being against business and businessmen. The whole idea of the repub attack is that individuals, not government create jobs and they roll out a small business owner that crows that he built his business on his own, without anyone’s help…the problem is he didn’t…this idiot got small business loans from the SBA and the last time I checked, the Small Business Administration is part of government and the loans were “government money” that the repubs just know can’t create jobs. This just reminds me of the tea partiers at their rallies waving around signs saying “keep your government hands off my Medicare” and it makes me laugh just as much. At least ole Mitt and his folks are consistent in their lies…in fact every time they open their mouths, they lie…I don’t think they can help it…especially since it works when the press doesn’t pay attention…geez…

July 26th

Well….it was a long day yesterday but I won at pool again so that was okay….I feel like crap today, though, and I know it was the new otc sleep aid that I took to try to get at least a little sleep…won’t do that again since I feel like I’ve been walking around in cement all morning and have been drinking the whole time….I wonder if I should try some of the natural ones they have? That could not possibly be as bad as this one…or maybe I should just get used to the fact that I just don’t sleep as much as other people…after all, I got through college with only 3-4 hours a night…maybe I just don’t need as much. As you can see…I’m running late today with having such a problem getting going and then making the trip over to G’s….not much to do today…the Olympics have started so that will be the primary focus for the next couple of weeks…I do have to get a ride in, too since I need to burn off this sleep stuff…

A Romney win will be illegitimate…

Well….have had this thought rattling around in my head for the past month or so and thought I’d get it down before I forget to deal with it…what happens if the voter suppression efforts by the repubs work and Romney is elected by a margin smaller than those votes that were prevented by the fake voter fraud laws that have been passed by repubs across the country? To me, it would make his presidency no more valid than Putin’s in Russia where it was clear that much of the vote was fraudulent….what does that say about our country that we no longer have “free and fair” elections but ones that have been rigged by the repubs? With all of the talk from the repubs of their love for the country and our sytems, they obviously are the most un-American party in the history of our country and are the cause of the political dysfunction that we see….no one else is to blame, just them…and, just as the unfounded wars and torture that the repubs supported ruined our standing with the rest of the world, how can we ask or tell other countries to have fair elections when ours are just as rigged as any banana republic….geez….

July 25th

Well…it is a melancholy day this morning for some reason…yesterday was one of my older brother’s birthday who died when I was a kid and I remember it every year for some reason…but that’s not the source…or, I don’t think it is…I’ve been paralyzed for the past couple of days and I’m not sure what that is either…lot’s of insight pouring out of me today and I’m not even sure why I’m here right now…have been up since 5 or so but that’s not unusual…I’m feeling kind of disjointed today so this one is going to be a free flowing, not making much sense one…I did have a thought that I miss the car brand Pontiac..not sure why about that either since I never owned one and I don’t miss the rest of them that have disappeared over the years….there were dreams last night that included the tv show “Las Vegas” and James Caan and taking the wrong shuttle bus…not much to do today…I am going to do the grocery run today since I do need some protein and I have none left here….and I have been good all week so I might splurge a little….more later….

The republicans really are crazy….

Well…came across this amazing little fact when I was watching Colbert the other day and it popped up in an article in the papers today to remind me of how crazy the repubs have gotten over the past couple of years…and I really need to put a long quote from the platform of the repub party from Texas in to get started…”We oppose the teaching of higher order thinking skills…and similar programs which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging the students fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority…” okay…are you as blindsided as I am? Basically, what the GOP in Texas is saying is that they don’t want their children to be able to think, to be able to compare facts and reason, or to challenge dogma that is riddled with superstition and lies. So, whatever their ignorant parents teach them about the spaghetti monster in the sky, or that the president is a muslim, socialist, Martian can no longer be challenged by the facts as long as it is “fixed belief”…no wonder the US is falling so far behind the rest of the world in competitiveness and even respect…how can the rest of the world respect a country that has one of its major parties so full of crazies, that treat objective fact as lesser than opinion, and who elevate the purveyors of this nonsense to leadership roles? I fear for this country if the repubs get their way….

I do need to give a little props to Leonard Pitts for his article today where I got the quote from the platform….

July 24th

Well…it was a recovery day yesterday and I was really good so I should feel better today but it’s not happening yet….might have to go back to the OTC sleep aids again for a while since I think I have whiplash from tossing and turning all night…and, even being good, my brain is still not working as well as it should….it looks like it may be a rain day today so the top will have to stay up on the car which takes away a lot of it’s appeal….but, I do have things to do today so I guess I’ll have to suck it up and get them done…might just have to take a day off from riding…darn….more later…

This is what the 1% does…

Well…I didn’t get back to the first post yet since this has been a recovery day for me…mostly from not eating enough yesterday…but, I did read an interesting article in the Guardian UK that states that the rich have gamed the system across the globe so much that they have been able to hide 21 trillion dollars from being taxed anywhere…yep, that’s trillion with a t…more money than the entire US economy with Japan thrown in for good measure. So, the next time you hear the rich start bitching about paying too much in taxes, you know it’s a lie….the tax rate on the upper income folks is at an 80 year low right now and where are the jobs these low tax rates are supposed to create? Not here in Michigan that I can see…geez…
