Well…running really, really late today and, this time, I have a good reason…made some cash yesterday so I went out and had new tires put on the summer wheels but that is not the only reason…I have just been taking it easy today..still haven’t even gotten through the papers yet but I have just worked out…slept okay last night but not as good as I should have with it being a cocktail night…I guess even the little stress from the tire appointment had an effect…not much to do today…I am going out to have a couple with G later and watch part of the Wings game but that is about it..oh, and cleaning, as always….more later…
Teachers are human, too…
Well…have been reading a bunch of the accounts of the bravery of the teachers in Oklahoma who were trying to save their kids and if there is one thing we take away from these horrible events it should be that teachers are humans, too. They are not the socialist, lazy, union thugs that the right and much of the MSM has portrayed them to be. They are friends, and neighbors…they are Americans who, in this crisis, went above and beyond to protect those in their care…using their bodies as shields over the children, organizing getting the kids to safe areas as the buildings were being blown down around them, and then helping to rescue those who were trapped. So, the next time the right tries to villify teachers as being a detriment to society, just point to Oklahoma and ask: who did you save today? Geez….
May 22nd
Well…it was an easy day yesterday and I didn’t do much…I did go out and get the parts to put front brakes on the car…the pedal is just too hard with the old ones and it was only 20 bucks…I may even get them done today if it stops raining….slept okay last night but had to take a sleeping pill to do it and that means I’ll feel pretty crappy most of the morning…but I was good last night so it’s not as bad as it could be….and I did need to sleep so I guess it’s a good trade off…not much to do today…I am going to make the grocery run this morning since I do want to have cocktails tonight to kick off the holiday weekend….more later..there may even be two more today…had a couple of ideas that I put off that I want to get to…
RIP Ray Manzarek…
Well….I was saddened yesterday when, amid the carnage in Oklahoma, the news came out that Ray Manzerek of the Doors had died….I remember the times when I was a kid in the 60’s listening to AM radio to see whether the version of “Light My Fire” was going to be the three minute short or the 6 minute long version where Ray’s work on the organ would shine and getting goosebumps when the bridge led us to that long version…I just loved the way he played the organ and injected a playful carnival atmosphere into “Whiskey Bar” all the while playing rhythm and bass at the same time on his Vox….but, the thing that still gets me to this day is his piano work on “Riders on the Storm” all at once a great jazz riff but also a fusion of the rock expansion of the time into those different genres and making them seem natural and right. For a band whose lifetime was a scant 5 years, I still see the Doors as pioneers and still have them in many, many of my playlists that I use daily….I’m a sucker for a good organ player from Lee Michaels to Gregg Allman….and Ray was better than good….so, Rest In Peace, Ray…and thanks….

Well…it was a long night last night with going out to watch the Wings…but, they won so I guess that makes it okay…can’t justify going out again, though, and spending 15 bucks so the next one will be on the internet radio for me….just have to get my imagination revved up again…slept okay but I was up at 4 and tossed all night….so, I feel run down this morning….I may have to work on the car today…just getting annoyed about the clutch so I may just replace the master cylinder and be done with it…or do the brakes, not sure which…not much to do today…I do need to clean the bathroom and get a few other things done and I am going to try today….more later…
The war on women is still on in Virginia…
Well…I thought I’d heard it all from Virgina with the attacks on womens rights coming fast and furious with mandated vaginal ultrasounds, personhood for embryos…and the rest of the right wing hooey…but, they are still at it…with the nominee for AG there being the author of a bill that would require any woman that has a miscarriage to report it to police within 24 hours and then put her grief aside and be interviewed by police so they can file a report on it…if she doesn’t, she faces a year in jail and 2500 dollar fine…I am just speechless how mean these repub bastards are and how little respect they have for a woman that has just gone through this terrible thing….not much else to say….geez….
Impeach, impeach, impeach…
Well…if you were unsure yet that the repubs in the house are stupid, ignorant, know-nothings…you just have to listen to the bleating that is coming from them on all of the “scandals” that have arisen in the past few months and now, they have started to talk impeachment of Obama for “high crimes and misdemeanors”…but not one of them know what the hell that phrase even means let alone that no impeachable offenses even happened. One of the leaders of the impeachment crazy chorus is the really, really stupid Jason Chaffetz who came out, with a straight face even, and said that because he thinks that Obama lied about Benghazi, it is an impeachable offense…oh, really? When it is clear that no one lied, conspired or did anything else wrong other than the repubs cutting the budget for diplomatic security? If lying to the American people is an impeachable offense, where the hell were the impeachment chorus when Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and the rest lied us into a war and cost over 4,000 American lives? I really do hope they keep going down this path since every time they open their mouths their stupidity is further revealed and they lose more and more support from the independents they need to win elections…I have resigned myself to the next two years of nothing but this crap…but then we take back the house and these crying babies can go to hell….can’t come too soon…geez…

Well…running late again today and I think it’s just that I can’t get motivated…I did have to go over to Meijers this morning since I was out of everything and I made a little cash over the weekend…slept okay last night and had that weird Aquinas dream again where I couldn’t find my classes…that happens about once a month and I still don’t know what it is all about…had to turn the air on last night for about an hour to get the humidity out of the air to sleep…not much to do today…have to get the workout in and ride the bike so I need to get at it before it rains…more later…
Ignorance, certainty, and meanness…
Well….the only thing I’ve been doing today is thinking…and reading some too, and one of the things that popped into my head was the three words that describe the modern repubs…ignorance, certainty, and meanness….if you just listen to these folks for one minute (I know that’s hard), you will hear their ignorance all day, every day…ignorance in economics, ignorance in science, ignorance in biology…hell, ignorance in everything and they are damn proud of it….one example of their certainty is on global warming where 97% of all science done over the past 20 years confirms that we are changing our planet by burning fossil fuels….but, you still have the repubs all saying that they are certain that climate change is a “UN sponsored fraud” and that all of the studies that say the climate is changing are done by liberal tree huggers….then, there is the meanness for no reason…the latest budget that Paul Ryan is proposing cuts off food stamps for 20 million Americans I guess since eating is a character flaw that the poor need to be taught is their fault….and these thugs are still using the fake study by Rogoff to justify cutting programs that keep people alive…even though the deficit is projected to be over 200 billion less than initially projected….just plain meanness and that is all it is….geez…
May 19th
Well…another long day and a bad night of sleep and it is getting really old….I am a little worn out today but I do have a bunch of cleaning to get done so there will be much coffee and then dragging myself to get some some stuff done…I do need to get a ride in, too, but I want to watch the Australian supercars race here for the first time at 9 so the ride will have to wait…and Man U plays their last game of the season this aft so that will be the background noise for a nap later….no cooking today since I have leftovers that need to be used so it is shaping up to be a boring day…more later…
