Well…a busy day yesterday with taking the car in to have it looked at to have the exhaust fixed…but that won’t happen until wed…then, I had lunch with T, HH with K and K, then out with G for a few…needless to say, I am a little tired today and may skip going out for coffee. I am running behind on the posts this month and I will need to get caught up today so you’ll get a few of these….but I do have some things to do today but they are all here so I may not have to go out…okay, not feeling it right now so I’ll quit and try again later….
Okay…I know I shorted you on this one so I’m back for a while to try to make it better….well…longer, anyway. It has been a total veg day here and I think I needed it to finally get completely over the bug that I had last week…just watched a little tv and sent some resumes….I did have lots to do with the newspapers piling up again and my bedroom in need of a teardown and cleaning but I am saving that for tomorrow when I will be without my car for the day as they fix the exhaust….so, no cocktails tonight to rest the liver and to have a lot of energy for the cleaning…..it has been a little discouraging lately with no bites on the resume but I just have to push forward…
Well…a pretty slow and easy day yesterday…stayed in and just vegged since I’m still getting over the bug but there is light at the end of the tunnel…it was strange not having any sports to watch other than the F1 race…not even any soccer but I did keep the boredom at bay by watching bad tv shows on Netflix and I did find that the British do make bad shows, too….not much to do today…I do have to take the car in to see if I can get the bad pipe fixed but that is about it…it will be nice to get back to the morning routine of papers and coffee for at least a couple of days…and the politics thing, too, but it has been a slow cycle lately and my outrage tank is empty….but, I’ll try later…
Well…it’s 9:04 and I have everything done that I was going to do today so I’m back here to do the sports one that I thought about earlier…there are some things I wanted to comment on before I forget…and that is happening more lately so I’d better get going…first up, the Lions…I was right to not get carried away about them this year even with the outstanding start they had…as always, no matter who is coach or who the players are, the Lions self destruct and go back to their old ways…I don’t think they will even make the playoffs this year and that will be a shame…one other thing…someone has to take Suh aside and tell him how an adult acts even playing the violent game of football….I think he is showing a lack of respect for himself, the rest of the team, and for the league that has made him a very rich young man….I do understand that is still a young man but he should have been taught right from wrong no matter what the context…and stomping on an opposing player is wrong…no shades of gray there.
Now, let’s get to the Red Wings…as you know, a month or so back I was quite disappointed with the play of the Wings and thought they looked slow and uninterested….that was when they had lost 6 in row and were almost at the bottom of the western conference…well…what a difference a month makes…after last night’s game, a 4-1 win over Nashville where we saw what the Wings can be, they are now in third in the west…only a couple of points out of first and riding a 5 game win streak into Tuesday…so, at least one of my teams is making me smile….oh, that’s not true…Michigan finally beat Ohio State after 7 years of losses…a nail biter of a game that had my heart racing at times and was so up and down that I think I used up a weeks worth of emotion in 3 and half hours….and I love Hoke’s comment at the end of the game…that the win wasn’t about him or how he felt..it was about the kids that played the game….classy…that’s about it for now….there are more sports to talk about but I don’t feel like it right now….
Well…had a fun day yesterday with going out to watch the Michigan game with M and they won so that was a bonus…I did get back here at a reasonable hour and then just vegged and watched the Wings win, too, so that just capped off a pretty good day. I think I’m getting over the beg I had but am still a little stuffy…we’ll see later today how it really is…looks like the weather is not going to cooperate so theru won’t be a ride today and getting to 2700 miles looks a little more iffy…but maybe a day off will let me heal up some….not much to do today…the last F1 race of the year is on but that is about it…not sure if I’m going to do anything else…probably just let the day go by and just observe….more later…and I mean it this time…I’m running behind for the month so I think I may do a sports one later…or maybe politics…I hope one of the idiots that writes for the Press has something stupid to say…
Well…a long night last night and the cable slowed down so much that I could barely run Netflix and I am a little irritated by it…but, I just got a letter from the cable folks that they know about and are going to fix the problem,,,yay….I think I may be getting better..from the flu anyway…the rest of the stuff I guess I’ll just have to live with….it looks like an early ride today since it is already almost 50 outside and I need to have that happen because I have things to do today…going out to M’s to watch the Michigan game but it’s going to be a short day since I don’t want to push the flu too hard….okay…I have 4 papers to read and a cup of coffee waiting so I’m heading for the couch…more later…
Well…up at 5 this morning and at least it isn’t 4….another night of crappy sleep but this time I know it’s from the flu since I can’t breath…but I have hope it will be better today…I know it won’t, but I can hope…I do need to make a larger turkey next time since the 10 pounder I made yesterday didn’t leave a lot of leftovers and that is the best part…oh, well…still coughing like crazy so I guess I’ll have to ride this one out today…at least the Wings are on at 1 and that will give me something to do…okay, heading to the couch for some water and a rest…back later for more…
Okay…back from the bike ride and I feel markedly better than I did yesterday…I think I do anyway but I won’t be sure until a little later….it was a nice ride but a little too windy but I’m starting to get a little melancholy with the big change to the weather that is coming…I may only get one more ride in tomorrow and that will be it for the year…I’m sure I don’t like that…the Wings are coming on in a few minutes so I’m going to go watch…more later…
Well…it was a long day with the Lions stinking up the place and with me getting worse….I know this is the flu now since I have been getting all of the symptoms of it…..and the dinner didn’t come out as well as I expected and it’s what I get for trying new things when I had the perfect turkey recipe from two years ago….won’t use the veggies inside next time and will go back to just stuffing the cavity with oranges…the veggies made the drippings a little too bitter but I guess that’s what cooks do is try new things….okay…it’s cocktail time and I am running out of steam really quickly….so, I’m heading back to the couch…
Well…it’s 4:30 in the morning and I’m sitting here writing in the dark since I can’t sleep and I feel pretty crappy from the cold or flu that I have…..but I am going to try to go back to bed here in a few minutes to try to get about another hour…or maybe not…I don’t have anyone coming over today for dinner so I can nap to my heart’s content later..it’s probably a good thing that no one is coming…I wouldn’t want them to get this bug…it’s not that bad of one on the sickness scale but most other people have to work and that would not be fun to do feeling this way…I did talk to my middle son last night and he told me he has a girlfriend for the first time, I think, and I could not be happier for him…he sounded elated and that can really make a father smile….not much to do today…just make the full boat turkey dinner for me but don’t even have to start on that until one so the morning will be one of coffee and the newspaper…I do need a new tv but I won’t be going out to get one in the craziness over the next few days….and then I do have to watch the Lions try to beat the Packers…not sure which team is going to show up but it will be interesting….I will try to get another one out later but no one is reading today so I guess I could take it easy…
Okay…I did get back to sleep around 6 and got the other hour I was hoping for so I feel okay if still a little tired….I did brine the turkey yesterday in orange juice with onions and garlic…and I’m going to roast it with rosemary butter under the breast skin along with carrots, celery, onion, and garlic in the cavity….and the gravy should be good with the sweetness of the orange juice and the savory from the veggies…well…last weeks “Burn Notice” is on so I’m going to go watch it….
Well…even though everyone has commented on the pepper spraying of student protesters at UC Davis, I thought I’d weigh in with my two cents…first, what was that fat thug thinking when he walked up and down the line of protesters spraying them in such a nonchalant way? I thought pepper spray was only to be used when there was danger to the officer or bystanders? This thug was in no danger…he just wanted to show his power to the students…that he could treat them any way he wanted with no ramifications…what is wrong with sitting down and talking and trying to work things out? What has happened to the police in this country? What has happened to the motto that many of them carry on the sides of their cars….and the question then becomes to protect and to serve who? From my view, it is to protect the 1% and serve as their private army…trying to ensure they don’t have to listen to protests or have their thievery exposed….until the police stop treating every protest and execution of our first amendment rights as an attack on them, this stuff will continue…geez…
Well….feeling really crappy today and it’s not from cocktails this time…I think I have the flu and can’t really think very well right now…I have to have my car fixed at 8 and I don’t know how I’m going to get through it….I’ll be back later for an update….
Okay…here’s the update…couldn’t afford to get the care fixed so I guess I’ll just drive it loud for a while….I did start feeling okay again so I will be getting out on the bike here in a few minutes…after the temp comes up some though…it is still only 42 so I guess I’ll have lunch first…not much else to do today…I did get the turkey in the brine and that gave me an excuse to clean out the fridge some so it would fit….I am still not feeling that well but maybe the bike ride will help…I can take it easy later in the afternoon after all…and there is a Wings game on tonight so there will be a cocktail or two with that….
