June 19th

Well…up early again this morning…but feel a little better now and hope that will continue for the rest of the day…no booze for the rest of the weekend since I really do need to take a rest for a while…need to do some cleanup around here…the leaning tower of newspapers is getting dangerously large and needs to be disassembled before there is mayhem everywhere….would probably register on the Richter scale if it falls over. I probably should go the the grocery store this morning, too, but just have no motivation to do it…so it may be fast food for the first time in about a month..or maybe more. Hmmmm…tacos from Taco Bell sound pretty good right now…I’m sure they’re not open at 6:30….they should be…haven’t you ever wanted a taco in the morning? More later…

It’s later…had what, at the time, sounded like a great idea for a new novel last night…I understand now how some of the great authors used booze to fuel their writing…but, I think you need the booze then to make sense of them…not a road I want to go down at this point but I may create a new category like new novel or something and try to write it in real time…would give me something to do.

World Cup update….

well…sitting here waiting for the chicken to cook and remembered that I neglected to do a World Cup update today…and there were unusual happenings to report. First, the US got robbed of a win by the most atrocious officiating I’ve ever seen; the ref calling off a good goal that would have won it for us for no reason whatsoever. Even the English announcers were appalled by the call…why can’t they get these things right? At least it was a tie and a point for us.

The bigger shocker was England and Algeria ended in a 0-0 tie which leaves us with a better tie-breaker in goal differential. But England looked terrible with no pace or creativity…what is wrong with those guys? Even the US looked better in the match…

Now, we have to win Wednesday against Algeria or we go home….should be fun..Algeria looked pretty good today but I don’t know if they can keep up that level of play…

June 18th

Well…four nights out in a row and I am starting to feel the effects…going to skip coffee and newspapers this morning since I feel like crap, and the US takes on Slovenia at 10….watching the Germany/Serbia match right now and Germany is down 1-0…quite a surprise but the reffing is kind of off with way too may yellow cards.

Not too much to do today since I have no money in my pocket…well…75 cents and I can scrounge up some more change; I do have some money coming in this aft so I guess I can survive until then if I don’t go out. Heading back to the couch to finish the match…more later…

Stop stealing my stuff Keith….

Well…just a short comment on this one…I was watching Keith Olbermann last night and it looks like he has been reading my stuff since he came up with the same idea I had a few days back….that is to let the idiots keep talking and their own words will expose them for what they are. I don’t mind him using my ideas, but at least give me credit…I’m trying to make a living at this….

I don’t know where to start….

I’m sitting here in front of my computer almost paralyzed by the happenings yesterday by the troglodytes in the Republican party. Talk about your target rich environment…I am amazed that anyone is still listening to these folks after Barton, Bachmann and the rest finished up yesterday. Let’s start with Joe Barton, the Repub from Texas, who yesterday apologized to BP for what he called the “shakedown” by the Obama White House for holding them responsible for the disaster in the gulf….this, from the party of responsibility…but only responsibility if you are poor or middle class…or you owe too much on your student loans, or are upside down on your mortgage. But if you are a corporation that has caused the worst environmental disaster in history, the apologists in the Repub party have your back…and will do anything to protect your obscene profits.

Then…I have to move on to the idiot Michelle Bachmann…does she even read the talking points before she spouts them like some deranged robot? Well…her comment on the 20 billion dollar clean up fund that Obama has dragged out of BP is that it is another example of the socialistic re-distribution of wealth that is the plan of this administration. I guess it’s okay with her when re-distribution goes the other way with the Bushies tax cuts for the rich, but taking care of all of the damaged people in the gulf is just too much for her and the rest of the Repub morons.

Haven’t you had enough of these guys? Do you really want to have the government controlled by the representatives from big oil? Geez….

June 17th

Well..had fun yesterday…won at pool but drank too much and feel kind of crappy this morning…so this one is not going to be groundbreakingly lucid by any means…in fact, I think I’ll end here for now…going to head for the couch and nurse my wounds a bit…ice water has just a huge attraction to me right now…more later…

Okay…I’m back….damn, it’s a pain to get old…literally…now I’ve hurt my back somehow to go along with the tendinitis in my elbow and shoulder…oh, well, I was going to write a post about how I feel pretty good for my age but I think I’ll hold off on that for now…did have a nice bike ride and the bike is still working perfectly even after riding it through the flood yesterday…had to even use a different pair of shoes since my normal ones are still soaked. Not much else to say today…well, right now, that is…I need to make lunch and you should, too…

Thank you Jon Stewart….

This is just a placeholder so I’ll remember that I want to touch on the disappointment I have with Obama when it comes to his promises to restore the rule of law…broken promises…he is quickly losing me and many other supporters with unprincipled continuation of the Bushies worst abuses….and I’m going to have drinks this aft so I need help remembering….told you I have flaws…

World Cup so far….

Well…the World cup took a turn this morning when Switzerland defeated the heavily favored Spanish team by a score of 1-0. These guys were favored to take it all but I think that rating may have been a little too optimistic given that the US beat them in the Confederations Cup last year. I know, Spain has only lost like 2 games in the last hundred years but these tournaments can be surprising…just look at our tie with England which easily could have been a win for the US.

On thing I have noticed is that there haven’t been any teams, from the matches I’ve seen, that have played up to level that I expected…I was prepared for some elegant soccer like you see in the EPL and Champions league but most of the play looks disjointed, although Spain did put together some short spurts of beauty that you can’t help but marvel at…even Brazil looked ordinary yesterday…maybe we have a chance? Hope so….

The Supremes are at it again….

Well…another case where, when you turn over the rocks that the Bushies hide under, the stench becomes unbearable when their policies of torture and extraordinary rendition are involved. I hope you take the time to read about the case of Maher Arar, a Canadian software engineer who was kidnapped when traveling through the US by the US government and sent to Syria where he was held and tortured for almost a year until the Canadians determined that the information they provided to the US was false. Now, this is a man whose only crime is having a name that is similar to ones that were on the flawed terrorist watchlists that the Bushies used to terrorize anyone they felt, in their own minds, was a danger to the US.

I find it such an egregious failure to uphold the constitution in this case and I also fault the Obama administration for doing the same damn things that were a breach on international law by the Bushies. Sending the acting solicitor general to argue to the Supreme court that national security issues are involved and thus we can’t allow this to go to court. Did they buy the same playbook that Cheney used to gut our Constitution? The information that they are so concerned about has already been revealed by the investigation that the Canadians did; finding that this man was completely innocent and compensating him over 9 million dollars for his ordeal. When did we give up moral leadership to the rest of the world? Oh, that’s right, when the Bushies decided to torture!

I have to say thanks to the Canadians for setting the example of taking responsibility for their mistakes…something that Obama and his administration have yet to learn…geez….

June 16th

Well…it’s kind of early to be doing this…back up at 5:30 this morning…pretty normal when I think about it, but still a pain in the butt. My daughter did give me some prescription sleeping pills when I was in Chicago last week so we’ll see how they work over the next week or so. Was supposed to have last night off from drinking to get ready for pool with Tom this aft but didn’t…so we’ll see how that works out…only have about 8 bucks in my pocket so it may be a short night…need to get some money coming in…any suggestions? No other plans so far…I might treat myself to a new grill for Father’s day since I miss the one that burned to the ground and you can only bake chicken so many times before the mere sight of it makes you gag. I NEED a rare t-bone…..more later…

The topic for later is more on the torture thing and a recent refusal of the Supreme court to take the case of a Canadian who was kidnapped and tortured by the USA…by mistake…well, all torture is a mistake but you’ll love this one…geez…
