Well…another long day and night but the Wings won so that helped….and Michigan and State won in the tournament so there will be two games to watch today and something to do…and the Wings play again tonight…plus, there is soccer on starting at 7:30 this morning….not sure what any of that means…I think I’m grasping at straws to keep myself from going crazy…or I already have and sports is the manifestation of it..who knows? I still have that grinding pop in my right thigh when I stand up but the pain is not too great so I think I can live with it…we’ll see when I get out on the bike today…at least it’s not numb anymore…that was kind of freaking me out….not much to do today…I will probably just sports out the day and veg…there is still a spider alert on so I should do something about that, too….more later…

Number 1,500….
Well…it’s been almost two years I’ve been doing this thing and this one is number 1,500 and, as always, I don’t know what to think if it….on one level, I’m proud that I’ve had the tenacity and discipline to write an average of more than two of these a day, and some of them have even been pretty good….but on another level, the question has to be asked: “What’s the point?”. I’m not sure I can answer that one…I do know that it has helped keep my skills at writing at least warmed up and the old adage that “if you don’t use it, you lose it” always runs through my mind when I get up in the morning and don’t feel like even trying. Does everything have to have a point? Or, is it enough to just do it for me? It may be that I am doing this just for me…haven’t looked at the stats lately to see how many people are still coming…there were periods when there were thousands of you every day and I guess I don’t look because I don’t need another reason to be depressed, and who else cares but me? So, I will say thanks to those of you that keep coming back and listening to this overqualified and unemployed old guy try to make sense of things….and, I’ll continue to try to get better and do better every day…if you’ve been here before, you know how big of a struggle that is at times….
March 9th
Well…it was another day yesterday with more boredom but I did make corned beef and cabbage that came out great so that helped a little…I’m still feeling a little off and my right thigh has this burning sensation in it that is a little disconcerting…it may be connected to the lower back pain that I’m feeling on that side….okay….going to wimp out and go back to the couch….back later for more…and the next one will be number 1500…so I really should think of something profound to say but I’m not sure if I’m up to it…I may be later but not now…it will be a no bike ride day today since it is going to be around 35 for a high and I don’t want to thermasuit up again…I do need to go out to Meijers this morning and I am going to try to keep the shorts thing going even though I’m 6 weeks or so ahead of my earliest start…
Another short one on tax cuts…
Well…while cruising my online papers for the second time today, a thought came to me that should put the “tax cuts make tax revenues grow” nonsense that is still a staple of all of the economic plans of the repubs across the country to rest. If that is the case, why did the Bush tax cuts take the economy from the surplus that he was handed when “elected”, to the huge deficits that we now see? Shouldn’t those cuts have driven tax revenues so high that even today there would be no deficits? Just asking….

Well….I was going to abandon the idea of a Rush watch counting the number of sponsors he has lost since his idiotic comments of last week, but I just can’t resist…the pull of seeing this moron go down in flames, finally, is just too hard to ignore…especially when the count has reached 50 and shows no signs of abating. So, now he is relegated to the same sort of sponsors that were left when Glenn Beck was circling the drain…gold sellers and herbal ED supplements….and it just makes me laugh so damn hard that I’d better stop before I choke….bye bye Rush….
March 8th
Well…it was a day yesterday and a cocktail night so I feel a little slow this morning…but I did win at pool so that is a plus…no dreams to speak of and a bad night of sleep has compounded the slowness so I won’t keep this up for long…in fact, I’m heading back to the couch right now to lick the wounds and drink some water…
Okay…this one is going to be a bit jumbled as I add to it as the day goes on….I did get some water in me and I’m waiting for the coffee to get that jolt I need to clear the head…I don’t have much to do today…that just struck me as funny…and I laughed…I am making corned beef and cabbage for lunch today so that is something to look forward to….the coffee sounds like it’s done so I am going to go get a cup and read the online papers…back later for more…
I am a little torn…
Well…I was going to do the whole Rushwatch thing but I’m bored with it already….I will say that the advertisers that have left has reached 30 this morning and I can understand why…but then the question that immediately comes to mind is: “what took so long?” Ole rush has been doing this same type of nonsense for 20 years and it never bothered anyone before so why now? I think it may have to do with attacking a private citizen; not a public figure who should expect some vitriol at times…especially when they make statements that most people find abhorrent….but, that brings me to the reason why I’m a little torn with the happenings over the past week or so….that included the Rush nonsense along with the Patrica Heaton comments, and those made by Kirk Cameron bashing gays…being the huge supporter of a strict reading of the rights in the Constitution….I find it troubling that the speech of these folks is being subject to so much pressure in disregard of their first amendment rights. People have the right in the US to say outrageous things and to be stupid….and I do agree with the quote that is attributed to Voltaire but may be from other sources: I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it…” Just some thoughts….
March 7th
Well…it started out a pretty cold day yesterday and I was out on the bike in full thermasuit with a wind that made everything below my neck hurt like crazy…then, I looked up and it was over 60 degrees so I missed riding in shorts and t-shirt yesterday…that is plan for today, though since it is 7 am and it is already 54 degrees…I do need to do the grocery run and wash the car but then I am going to try the ride in shorts this morning…I did have dreams last night that were centered around the 77 Chrysler again but it’s windshield was gone and it wouldn’t run right…not starting and quitting in the snow…but I couldn’t figure out what the whole thing was about…and still can’t….It was a little disappointing with the Wings losing last night and it being a no cocktail night, I was somewhat bored and forgot to put the heat back on so it was cold in here this morning…I will try to get back for another one later today but I need to go out to Cascade for a while so it may get away from me….
Let’s do a Rush watch…
Well…got this idea just a few secs ago and thought it sounded like a good idea at the time…let’s do a daily watch on ole Rush and count the advertisers who have left the show…right now, as of March 6th, the count is up to 20 and shows no signs of stopping…and, I for one, am reveling in the bully getting what’s coming to him….now I urge Clear Channel who is essentially Rush’s boss to at least suspend him…and, to Clear Channel, who thinks ole Rush is the top rated show in most of his markets, take a look at the latest metered results on listeners, not just the paper diaries that Arbitron uses…ole Rush comes in 8th in DC..far behind even NPR….maybe it’s time to send this bully back to his pill mills in Florida…okay, that’s not really fair….I’ll try to stop the personal attacks…but he does deserve it…after all, I didn’t call him a fat f*** loser…
One last thing…I think we should boycott any show that Patricia Heaton is in…during the attacks by Rush…she did the same thing on her Twitter account, although not quite as despicable as Rush’s comments, it again showed the ignorance and mean streak that the right displays every day and should not be supported….
Making the connection…
Well…just read an interesting article in the Guardian UK about the right’s fascination with Ayn Rand and her work “Atlas Shrugged” and it hit me that this fascination is one of the causes of the of the concerted attacks on women that we have seen over the past few months. In that putrid piece of trash (I really hate to call any work by any writer trash, since I understand that writing is hard work) the put upon millionaires and billionaires revolt against “government regulation” and the takers in society that are everyone but them…but what struck me the most are the scenes of rape in the book where the woman being raped comes to understand and like the attack since it is done by one of the rich and powerful that “deserve” to do whatever they want since they are rich and powerful. This nonsense is the root of the contempt that the right feels for everyone that is not them; who is not rich and connected, who must have something wrong with them because they aren’t. Never mind that most of those in the repub race for president either were born wealthy or fed at the public trough through lobbying to become wealthy; the fantasy in their heads is that they “earned” what they have….delusions that grow stronger with every passing day…geez….
