Well…have been trying to recover today but I think I can’t recover from this bug until it gets really, really worse..it looks like that’s the path I’m on for the weekend so that is a bunch of crap…there have been some odd things going on…at least odd to me…have been getting Neil Young’s twitter feed lately and he is really going after the tar sands crap that is fouling large swaths of Canada…I know he is from there and I shouldn’t be surprised that he is socially responsible…but it is nice to see that even at this late date, he is still trying to make a difference….and it has been such a good weekend for those of us who think Chris Christie is a lying bully…the latest is that his thug aides withheld Sandy aid to Hoboken just because the mayor there wouldn’t give contracts to one of Christie’s cronies….and this time, the mayor has evidence of it all…I can smell indictment all over this last bit of news….and it couldn’t happen to a bigger thug…as I said in an earlier post..”bye, bye, Christie”….should do one more for this one but I can’t think of another right now…so, I think I’ll make the next idea the catch up post for the weekend…

Wandering around…again…
Well…I am still feeling like I have no energy even after lunch with three venison tacos and I’m sure that it is not eating enough….but, how do you eat if nothing sounds good? It took all the energy I had just to walk across my place and sit down here….and, with crap happening in politics…those idiots are going back on vacation after being back a week…and they bitch so much about the unemployed and how they think they’re lazy so they won’t extend UI benefits…since people are living large on the 300 bucks a week avg they get….that wouldn’t even pay my low expenses…what if you had children and a house payment? I hope the repubs pay in this years election…bastards….and now they are back at taking away womens rights to control their own bodies…once they are pregnant, the new laws that the repubs are pushing would make the rights of the fetus supercede the rights of the mother…essentially saying that the woman no longer has any rights to her own body if pregnant….what the hell is wrong with the repubs…I guess it goes back to their “faith” that says that women are property and should do what their husbands tell them to…and now, in Wisconsin, these asses have just introduced legislation that would allow a woman’s family to trump her decisions on abortion…even if a grandmother, or mother, or father objected…the wishes of the mother would be trumped…leaving women second class citizens with less rights than anyone else…this crap even hurts to write about…so, I’ll stop here….
The problem with open carry…
Well..If you’ve been here before, I know you’ve read how I feel on the open carry for guns laws that have spread like a plague across the US over the past decade or so…I will say right up front that I have been a gun owner and I see no problem with people having guns in their homes for protection or whatever else they tell themselves they need them for…okay, that was a little harsh since I have been a hunter and I do enjoy the venison I get from my hunter friends…but that is an entirely different thing than carrying a handgun around on your hip everywhere you go. As I’ve said before, I am extremely uncomfortable and will leave any establishment that allow people to bring guns into it…and the “responsible gun owner” is always responsible until he or she is not and takes the gun out and shoots someone…I just don’t want to be in that crossfire. So, a couple of days ago, a “responsible gun owner”, a retired police captain in Florida got into an argument with another patron at a movie theater…the guy was texting during the previews and the gun owner didn’t like it…you can guess what comes next…the retired officer took the gun off his hip and shot the guy to death…something that could have been avoided if the guy just didn’t have a gun with him…and that is the gist of my aversion to having everyone and their brother carrying guns around everywhere…what used to be just an argument that might have come to blows now is a life and death situation…and ends more more and more often with someone dead and a family shattered…I’ve had enough of this nonsense…geez…
It’s cold so there can’t be any global warming…
Well…it has been a day of hibernation with the cold and snow….the wind chill just hit 35 below and that crystallized something I read this morning in the Detroit news…it was actually a comment from some genius who was smugly declaring that there can’t be any global warming since the scientific ship that was studying climate change near Antarctica was stuck in the ice…and of course there shouldn’t be any ice since it is summer in the southern hemisphere. Hence, global warming is all a fraud…I think this just highlights how the right operates only on faith and made up “facts”….first, climate change is a set of changes that are taking place over time; not a single event like the bitter cold that we have here in GR today….to cherry pick “facts” as this idiot did, I could point out that the summer in Australia is the hottest on record…with temps over 125 degrees in places…so, of course the globe is getting hotter…these occurrences are just pieces in the puzzle of climate change…like the drought in California that we are seeing that will have some parts of the state run out of water next year….and the fact that there is so little ice at the north pole now that shipping companies are now plotting to run ships across it to save thousands of miles…so, let’s stop confusing weather with climate for a change…and start getting the facts straight…oh, that’s right, the right doesn’t believe in facts…geez…
Cheating away….
Well…sitting here waiting for the Wings alumni game to start and thought I’d do a short one on a death that happened in the past couple of weeks…and, I know, it’s cheating but I forgot to put this in this morning’s post. While I was reading the paper, I came across one of those lists of people who have died this year, and found a surprise…you probably don’t know who he is, but Ricky Lawson died last week…he was a drummer for a long time with Steely Dan and many other bands over his career and I saw him with SD quite a few times…always a smile on his face and a style that just fit them…now, he’s gone in his fifties and that is just too damn early….

Okay…just read an article that illustrates how the anti abortion crusaders have taken away womens rights in this country and it just pisses me off…in Texas, a woman had a pulmonary embolism that rendered her brain dead, and the family wanted to carry out here living will wishes to take her off life support…but, right to life in Texas got a law passed that said a pregnant woman can’t be taken off life support even if the family wants it….even if the person has it in their will to have it done…the law supercedes their wishes…now, this woman went over an hour without breathing and as a result, the fetus did, too…so now, this family has to keep this body alive for the next 5 months until they can determine if the fetus is viable…I’ve got a clue for you…no oxygen for an hour killed the fetus’s brain, too…but these right wing asses in Texas don’t want government involved in their lives until it is a pregnant woman…then they take away all the rights of the mother to control her own life…shame on you Texas…geez…
The right still doesn’t understand the Constitution…
Well…the right is all up in arms today about the reaction to the homophobic, racist comments that one of the stars of “Duck Dynasty” made in an interview with GQ magazine, going on and on about how his first amendment rights have been violated since he has been suspended from A&E for the comments. Man, these folks just don’t understand the document that they wave around their heads, do they? The first amendment protects your freedom of speech…and this idiot is still free to say whatever he wants…there is no one trying to silence him…but, due to the repubs continual deference to corporations and the right of these corporations to do whatever they want to their employees, A&E has every right to suspend him…the first amendment has nothing to say about the fallout from your free speech. This is something the left has been clamoring for for decades, to try to limit the power of corporations over the constitutional rights of employees but the right just thinks that there need to be no laws, that corporations will do what’s right just because they are “nice”…something we all know is not and never has been the case. I still support the right of this homophobic, racist ass to say whatever comes into his tiny mind, but the right has to remember that words have consequences…geez…

Well…have been sitting here and I could say I have been wracking my brain to come up with a topic, but that’s not true…have been getting hooked on bobsled, skeleton, and luge since they started to show it on one of my channels…pretty cool….one thing I did want to talk about is the idiot governors who are falling all over themselves to try to buy jobs from Boeing since the company screwed it’s workers in Washington and decided to build the next plane anywhere but there. These governors are doing the same thing that Tennessee did for Kia a few years back when they built them a factory to the tune of over $500 million dollars and gave to to them for free…along with tax incentives that will allow them to not pay any taxes…ever! Now, the governors of many states are upping the ante with Boeing…with incentives that will measure in the billions of dollars and make sure that each job will cost over $500 thousand dollars. I am just so tired of profitable companies being allowed or even encouraged to play the states off against each other to transfer taxpayer wealth to their owners….especially since one of the sweeteners is always to hold wages down by a non-union workforce…what I don’t understand is why Boeing would want to do that again…when many of the problems with the Dreamliner launch have been traced back to the low pay, low skilled labor that they used at the plants that made the sub assemblies….just another incidence of the blindness that comes from seeking lower cost labor as the silver bullet to profitability…and not innovation..geez…

Well…in my reading yesterday, I ran across a story that just made me shake my head it was just so wrong…in case you haven’t read it yet, there was an 18 year old in Texas who was driving drunk and killed 4 people and the judge in the case gave him nothing but probation.. a long probation but similar cases have resulted in jail time of up to 15 years…and the judges reasoning? Because this kid grew up in a rich, privileged household, he was not responsible for his actions since he always got his way and no one taught him right from wrong. It’s not as if the rich don’t already get away with whatever they want, now they can murder and get probation? I am just so tired of the deference the rich get in the US….no wonder they think the law doesn’t apply to them when stuff like this happens…people go to jail for stealing food to feed their families and this idiot gets to walk away? He’ll never have to learn any consequences either since he is rich and connected…and will never have to look for a job..or daddies rich cronies will give him one…this is just wrong….geez…
Another reason to not eat at McDonalds…
Well….as if a person needed more reason to not eat at McD’s….other than the food that will make you fat or kill you if you eat it all the time…okay, maybe that is a little harsh…the company came out this week with some tips on how their starvation level wages can be supplemented and everyone can have a wonderful, happy holiday….the first one is just a wonderful piece of corporate crap…they recommend that their employees just sell their Christmas presents or anything else they don’t need on e-bay…the problem with that is that, with the wages they pay their folks, they probably don’t have anything to sell anyway….maybe they should sell their food next? One other thing that this poor excuse for a company does is give out instructions on how to sign up for food stamps…not pay their people enough so they don’t need them, but get the government to pay for their food and subsidize the profits of the owners…and these are the same people who decry welfare or any type of public assistance and do their best to have it cut while feeding at the government trough themselves for billions of dollars a year…just like Walmart….what a bunch of crap…geez…
