Well…sitting here waiting for the idiot trump to do his next bit of idiocy and thought I’d just do one on sports while I wait…okay, it’s mostly the Wings but I may touch on other sports, too….the Wings looked pretty good last night in their 4-2 win over the Wild and they even scored a power play goal…so that was cool…and my guy Hank got one, too…that is just icing to me….now, I’m not going to get carried away by one win, but they could have gone the other way and that would have dampened a lot of my enthusiasm for this year…it is cool to see the youngsters hold their own and get some goals, too….now, I guess I’ll talk a little about Man U and their start to the year….only one tie for the first 8 games and that puts them tied for first in the league this year….after last year’s 5th place finish, I have hope they will do better…at least in the top three to get into the Champions League without having to go through the Europa league to get there…not much to say about the Tigers other than I am a little curious who the new manager is going to be…I think it’s best to just forget about their season….oh, almost forgot to talk about the Lions…3-1 so far and they should be 4-0…but, they didn’t look good in their last game at all…so all of the hype about the playoffs I’ll take with a grain of salt being the long time Lions fan that I am…that’s enough….

The Premier League starts…
Well…it’s one of my favorite days of the year with the English Premier League starting up this morning…well..it actually started Friday but it’s not really a start until Man U plays…and they just finished up demolishing West Ham 4-0 and looked like the Man U of old….Lukaku is going to be a great addition at forward getting 2 today and the addition of Matic in the midfield will also be something to see. So, I am pretty geeked about the season…especially after how terrible they started last year….
A little sports….
Well…haven’t done one of these on sports in quite a while so I think it’s about time…I forgot to update when Man U won the Europa league Wednesday and that puts them in the Champion’s League for next year but that also ended the BPL season for the year…there is one more match tomorrow for the FA Cup and that should be a good one between Chelsea and Arsenal. There is so much sports on this weekend that the whole thing starts in about a half hour with Carb day from Indy and then F1 practice after that…then F1 qualifying from Monaco tomorrow morning, and the Xfinity race in the afternoon…then Sunday is raceday of the year with F1 from Monaco at 8…Indy at 11 and then the Coke 600 at 6…needless to say, I won’t be leaving the couch much Sunday….or the rest of the weekend for that matter….at least I won’t be bored….and I’ll be napping a lot…..
Burned out on trump…
Well…I have been trying to figure out what to write about and the only thing I know is that I don’t want to write about the idiot trump….just burned out on that right now so let’s try something else…maybe some sports….I have been getting into rugby lately and I’m not sure if I like 15′s or 7′s better…playing on the same size field, the 7′s have lots more room and a lot more action…and at only 7 minutes per half, the game just flies by…not like the 80 total minutes for 15′s…but, I guess I’ll keep watching both of them until I decide…soccer is still interesting right now but Man U is frustrating the heck out of me….I mean, tying Bournemouth? Time is running out for them to get into the top four for champions league play later in the year and that would mean Europa league again and that is just not good enough….for me, anyway…not sure if I’m looking forward to March Madness this year….basketball is just not one of the sports that I like very much anymore…okay, that’s enough for now….unless trump does something stupid…and then I’ll come back….oh, one last thing…the Red Wings are not going to make the playoffs for the first time since I was in my 30′s…..and that is really disappointing….oh, well….
Manchester United…
Well…I guess you can see what I’m doing…all of these sports posts would normally be included in one post but I need three more to get to the goal so I’m cheating some. Manchester United….what can I say about the most frustrating team that I follow? They are 10 points behind where they were last year that got the last manager Louie VanGaal fired…so, with basically the same team, the new manager, Jose Mourinho, (who I think is just an ass) is doing worse than the guy that got fired…and they are now in 8th place with the tie with West Ham over the weekend…and they play them again this afternoon….so, what’s the problem? First, Mourinho really dislikes Wayne Rooney and never starts him….a guy that makes almost $400,000 a week and he won’t start him…I just can’t figure that one out….the team just looks worse with Jose running it…and I am having trouble watching them since Mourinho is such an ass…oh, well…
Congrats Manchester United….
Well…you’ve heard me talk of my frustration with the season that Manchester United had this year…not knowing what team was going to show up on any given day. Today, the right one showed up and Man U won the FA Cup…the tournament that starts with all of the teams that play in Great Britain. It took them overtime, though, and playing through Smalling getting ejected and down to just 10 men…but the winner was just a gorgeous strike by Jesse Lingard that bailed the Red Devils out….and made my day….and now soccer is done until the fall and I’ll have to find new things to keep me amused on Saturday and Sunday mornings…congrats Man U!
Some good news in sports…
Well….not sure why I haven’t written about this yet but there has been some good news for the teams I follow over the past couple of days…starting with Michigan just pummeling Florida in their bowl game and it is even more delicious that they beat a Florida team…for some reason, I just don’t like the teams from Florida and 41-7 was a pretty good beatdown. A good way to head into next season….not sure they will do better than a 10-3 season like this year but I can always hope. In a huge surprise, Manchester United won a game for the first time in 8 games and they even played okay…not sure if they should keep van Gaal or not but they need to keep playing in a more up-tempo fashion like they still like the game…it hasn’t looked like any of them really wanted to be out there and that has to change. In the past few minutes, even the Red Wings won a game…not in a shootout or overtime, but in regulation….and that breaks a three game losing streak that they had to get out of since they were sliding down the table toward not making the playoffs….so, overall…not a bad couple of days for sports for me…needed one of those…
A little sports for the end of the year…
Well…haven’t figured out a political one yet so I thought I’d do a short one on sports…I was just going to say that all of my teams suck and leave it at that, but that just didn’t seem enough…so, here goes…
The Lions….what the heck can you say about the Lions? You would think that since 1957 they would have gotten to a championship game even if by accident…but, no…in 58 years, not one damn championship or even a whiff of a team good enough or lucky enough to even compete…and it doesn’t look good for next year, either…but, do I still watch? Yep…but with the understanding that they will be bad…not sure if I know a Lions fan that ever even talks about the super bowl….not in our vocabulary.
The Tigers……boy what a fall for the Tigers…contending for the world series last year and just stinking up the place this year and I’m not really sure what happened….lots of injuries did them in for the most part and staleness of the management team didn’t help…thankfully, some of that has changed for next year but the starting pitching looks like it is mediocre at best…
The Red Wings…after last night’s game, I’m not sure what to think of the Wings…looks good for a playoff spot for the 24th year in a row but I think their mindset is that that is the ultimate goal…just to get to the playoffs…for such a young team, that’s not the way to think…there has to be a loftier goal…back to the Stanley Cup finals at least to get some of these guys motivated….I can’t remember a Wings team that had the swagger they used to have and tuning in to watch we were confident that they would dominate the other team…I want that back…
Manchester United….worst…team…ever…just horrible to watch…just painful to watch these guys play right now and I’m not sure I will for much longer…no killer instinct…no defense..no nothing…looks little better than the David Moyes team…Louie VanGaal has to go…along with some of the players if this club wants to return to the Man U that used to be….I can’t remember the last time they even scored a goal…
Okay…that’s it for now…was going to talk about nascar a little but just don’t feel like it right now….more later…
Some sports…and filler…
Well…sitting here waiting for the temp to come up so I can get on the bike so I thought I’d get one of the last ones for the month done while I wait…so, it’s going to be sports…yay! I just can’t figure out the Tigers this year…at or near first place all summer and then, bang….they just can’t win a game…I was almost sucked back into watching them as they played well this summer but that was killed after they started to play like a minor league team…I’ll be the Whitecaps could have beaten them this summer. Not sure if I have hope that they will be better next year…probably not….but, they are still not as frustrating as the Lions who look like they have regressed from last year by a bunch…I mean, 0-3 already? But, the frustration in my case is over 50 years old and I probably should know better than to have hope with those guys. But, the Red Wings might make me happy this year with all of the young guys coming up and the addition of a couple of pretty good veterans…they looked good in preseason but that is preseason…we’ll know more after the first game Friday. Then, there is Manchester United…who, even after playing like crap to start are at the top of the table…but, I think that is more the weakness of the Premier League this year…..in European competition, the Premier League has been beaten up pretty bad…I guess we’ll see this afternoon when they play Wolfsburg in the Champions League….fingers crossed
A little sports…
Well…I was going to do a political one talking about the Donald and his huge lead over the rest of the rider in the clown car but, there is a little bit happening in sports that I wanted to talk about first…just saw that Danica Patrick has signed a new deal with Tony Stewart’s team and I really can’t figure out why…I think her average finish for the year is in the 20′s and the only place she is competitive is at the restricter plate tracks like Daytona…and this is in the same equipment that Kevin Harvick has driven to 4 wins this year…I know that Tony Stewart himself isn’t doing much better but I don’t remember a race that Danica was even close in…and that would have gotten a mediocre driver fired at any other team…oh, well…I did want to talk a little about Manchester United and it’s inconsistent progress over the past two years…I know they have won both matches so far in the premier league, but they were unconvincing at best in both…I know they are kind of happy with 6 points in the first two matches with only getting 5 in the first 6 last year but I haven’t seen anything that would make you believe that they can win the league this year…the one suggestion I would make is to have Fellaini and Chicharrito start for a change…Rooney needs some help with service so he can be a striker again…or even better, move Rooney to the role just behind the striker and let him do his thing with the good set ups that we have seen him do…okay, that’s enough for now…more later…
