They’ve lost the Chamber of Commerce…

Well…if you didn’t think the modern repub party has become a radical cult, you just have to look at the news from this morning where the repubs have stopped the C of C from being part of any repub gathering, fundraising, etc….and it’s because there are still some sane repubs in the organization who still can determine facts and want what is best for the country…like supporting the recovery act that Biden pushed through congress and supporting vaccines and mandates along with the infrastructure bill that is wending it’s way through congress. So, we now know for certain that the modern repubs don’t give a damn about this country, only the repub cult that has gone so far to the right they have left the ultra conservative C of C behind…and I think that is a good thing…the C of C realizes that the only sane party left that they can work with is the dems and maybe this will be another nail in the coffin of the crazy assed repubs who would tear this country down just to spite the dems…at least we can hope…geez…

Dark days in Michigan…

Well…it is a dark day in Michigan as the Koch brothers and the Chamber of Commerce, along with the DeVos family have bought themselves a right to work law that will go a long way to gutting organized labor…the House has just passed the bill in this lame duck session with no debate allowed by the repubs. One thing everyone has to understand is that this bill was written by ALEC…the extreme right wing organization that is behind the “stand your ground” laws that have resulted in murderers getting away with murder in the states where they have been enacted, and it is wholly funded byt the Kochs and the Chamber…the most anti-American worker organizations in this country. The bitch about this whole thing is that the Koch’s ideas and candidates were rejected at the ballot box in the last election but they still found a way to hurt the American economy by this new law…what do you think will happen when people have 1,500 dollars less in their pockets? They are going to spend less and the economy will head back into recession…just what the repubs want….so they can say it is the failed policies of Obama that did it…what a cynical, terrible group of people…geez…

More thoughts….

Well..this one came to mind with just a tiny little article in one of the newspapers I read every morning that passed on the fact that taxes, for both individuals and business, are at their lowest level in more than 60 years. If you’ve been here before, you heard me talk about this topic, but not in this context….the context of Obama going to the Chamber of Commerce and promising them lower taxes and less regulation if they will just start to hire more people with the over 2 trillion dollars in retained profits that they now hold; a figure that is higher than any time in recorded history. How did they make so much profit if their taxes are too high? My question is, “who pays for the infrastructure, education of the workforce, and other things necessary for business to thrive if they don’t pay their fair share of the tax burden? Guess who? You and me….

I understand that this trip to the Chamber was a political calculation to look like there was no stone unturned in creating jobs, but to go to these thieves with his hat in his hand and say “pretty please” to get them do do the right thing for the country that made them successful is just wrong…business owes it to the people of America who bought the roads they use to transport their goods, who bought the education that gives them good workers, who bought the military that protects them every day, and who gave them the profits they so jealously hoard….to dismiss this debt while passing responsibility on to individual Americans is morally reprehensible…geez…

I’m not usually into conspiracy theories…

Well..this thought popped into my head this morning when I was reading an article about how disappointed business is with Obama and the regulations that have been imposed on certain parts of the economy. I think the article was in the Detroit News and it went on to say that the US Chamber of Commerce is working closely with Repubs on legislation and this dawned on me; I think that one of the reasons that companies are retaining so much profit and not converting that into hiring is that they are working in concert with the repubs to make sure the economy doesn’t recover before the fall elections. They know that with the repubs back in control of the House, they can get their money’s worth again from the repub legislators they have purchased.

The sick thing about this is that they care nothing about the people that purchase or make their products and who make those profits that they are hoarding. Why haven’t these behaviors been seized upon by the Dems as un-American, as a cynical attempt to return to the robberbaron times of the early 20th century? When are we, as a people, going to find out what companies are essential to this plot and make sure they pay in the only place they understand: their profits? You want to take this country back? Then let’s take it back from these plotters, these people who only care about themselves and how much power they can amass. Geez…

Corporate responsibility….yeah, right…

Well…I hope you’ve heard of this new scheme by corporations and led by the US Chamber of Commerce that is going to “push back” against any new corporate regulations by the use of lawsuits against government agencies such as the EPA or the MSHA as Massey Energy CEO Don Blankenship has vowed. Do you remember who Don is? He is the CEO that presides over the most egregious violator of mine safety rules….violations that resulted in the deaths of 29 miners in one of his mines. He thinks that the government should let business self-police themselves and cloaks his opposition to any regulation as being necessary to his “pursuit of happiness” that is guaranteed in the constitution.

I am dumfounded by his and other CEO’s, like Tony Hayward of BP’s, attitude toward the damage that they do to the country; then play the role of the aggrieved, like the big bad government is not playing fair. The Chamber of Commerce went so far as to put out a press release saying the government should have paid for the Gulf oil spill, not BP, while talking out of the other side of their mouths and bitching about government spending and the deficits. Oh, I guess it’s okay for the government to bail out BP but not to approve the extension of unemployment benefits; it’s okay for the Chamber to lobby against the extension through their repub cronies? Out of the third side of their mouths they lobbied for the passage of the 800 billion dollar bailout. Why? Because the benefits went to the members of the Chamber. Corporate leaders have shown that they have no sense of responsibility to anyone but themselves…we’ve allowed them to self police for the last 8 years…how did that work out for you?..Come on people, we need to push back against these corporate crooks…e-mail your congresspeople and tell them that you want a level playing field…and without corporate regulation it will never be level…

c’mon tea partiers….you should want to take back your country from the corporations…not Obama…geez….
