Well…it looks like people in red states are starting to get the idea that even though the repubs have gerrymandered the states so that they are in control even when getting less votes than dems, the people in some of them are striking back with citizen initiatives that puts popular laws in place that the repubs are blocking…as we did here in Michigan when we voted to put women’s rights into our constitution, the voters of Ohio just turned in double the number of signatures needed to get restoring women’s right on the ballot…at present, it only takes 50.1% of the vote to make these initiatives the law in Ohio, but of course the repubs want to take the people’s say away by changing the passing percentage to 60, making it much tougher for citizens to have their say…so, another citizen initiative is on the ballot for August 8 that would restore the people’s rights…but since this is a single issue election, the turnout will probably be too small to pass it….and that will doom the women’s rights initiative that will be voted on in November…typical repub bullshit…they can’t win with unpopular ideas so take away the rights of citizens to challenge them…man I hat repubs…geez…

Maureen Ferguson is a right wing hack…
Well…just read an opinion piece in USA today that has me pissed off that they would allow this right wing hack, Maureen Ferguson, to spew her right wing nonsense in a national paper. In the piece she goes on to essentially cheer for the defeat of a bill in congress that would enshrine women’s right to control their own bodies by federal law to take it out of the right wing supreme court hands…and she goes on to frame it as the women’s rights supporters not believing in democracy since they don’t want to allow the repub controlled states to codify their hate into law…hate of women, hate of minorities, and hate of the LGBT community and to restrict the rights of people they don’t like. She is living in the 19th century and using the same state’s rights arguments that were used to support slavery and ensuring that black people don’t have the right to vote…so I guess to this hack it is against democracy to try to protect everyone in the US…even those who live in states that have been rigged so the repubs control them and she is just fine with that rigging….again, this is the same bullshit argument that has been made since before the civil war…and it reeks of pushing her religion (catholicism) on everyone since she works for a catholic organization whose purpose is to outlaw abortion in this country….it is specifically because of people like ferguson why protections for all the groups she and her repub counterparts hate have been federalized…if we left it to the states she so reveres, slavery would still be a thing and women would still be property to be controlled by men….and minorities would still not have the right to vote…and she can’t deny that with the continuing efforts of her beloved repub party, that right is under attack in 2022….what a right wing hack….
Yow, Kansas!
Well…not sure if you noticed, but the supreme court of Kansas just stunned me and almost everybody else when they ruled that their state constitution protects bodily autonomy..and that means the absolute right of a woman to control her body and terminate her pregnancy. The cool thing about this ruling is that the determined that there are “inalienable rights” that are immune from government intrusion and that self determination and control of ones body is one of those rights…but the ruling didn’t stop there…it determined that all individuals are free to excise personal autonomy and are free to make choices about how to conduct their own lives. One of the parts of this ruling that I find most heartening is that it is not reviewable by the US supreme court and the right wing ideologues who have been installed there by McConnell…so this ruling affirming personal rights can’t be reversed by the legislature, either…so the repub assholes who live for taking away women’s rights to control their own bodies made a huge miscalculation by trying to make them second class citizens in Kansas and the court slapped them down….now, let’s hope that this ruling will be a challenge to the rest of us to do what we can to protect the rights of our sisters, daughters and friends…and of all women by voting the repubs out in 2020…
Female republican grifters…
Well…it had to happen some time but I wonder why it took so long…there is a new consulting firm run by republican women, that’s sole purpose is to tell republican men how to sell their “message” so women will vote for them. I just can’s say how wrong this is on so many levels but it is indicative of the delusion on the right that it is not the policies of taking away women’s rights, keeping them from voting, and keeping them from marrying who they want…nope, it just that they are just not selling transvaginal ultrasounds and the rest of the intrusions into womens’ bodies right…if they just come up with a magical marketing plan, women will gladly vote for repubs who hate them. Now, this sounds like a colossal grift to me..that these women who are founding this company just want to get their turn at the billionaire trough that the rest of the grifters of the right feed from. The essential flaw, as always with the repubs, is that they truly do think that their ideas are popular across the country, after all, it’s all they hear in the right wing bubble, that they are the “real America” and they outnumber the rest of us and it is just by cheating that they continue to lose elections. What a bunch of maroons as Bugs Bunny used to say….a delusional bunch of maroons that will buy this new effort like they did Karl Rove’s in the 2012 election…and what did that 300 million dollars get them? Nothing….just recycling the dollars back through the media that is owned by the rich anyway…so they couldn’t lose…geez…
The repubs overrereach…
Well…one of the things that I find to be so telling about the crop of new laws to restrict womens rights that is happening in all of the repub controlled states is that they don’t see it to be the overreach that it is….in every state where this nonsense is going on, polls show that from 65 to 80% of the people there don’t want the legislatures to do this crap…they want them to focus on jobs, infrastructure, and education but the repubs, driven by their colossal hubris, and their need to control people they don’t like can’t help themselves…but, the one thing they just don’t get is that their win in 2010 was not the mandate they think it is…and the country is not the right wing utopia they want it to be…in fact, over the past two years, the country has moved more to the center as they see the repubs going farther and farther to the right. This delusion has driven the right to try to drag the country back into the bad old days of discrimination and this overreach will be their downfall in 2014…it can’t come too soon…geez…
The war on women continues…
Well…have been reading a bunch of stuff about the Todd Akin flap and the egregious nonsense this idiot has been spouting but the more troubling thing is that, while they try to distance the gop from what are radically stupid beliefs, the repubs are enshrining the same nonsense in the party platform…basically taking the rights of women completely away and giving them to any unborn fetus she may be carrying. Here’s the text:
“Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed,” the draft platform declares. “We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.”
In these few sentences, the repubs have told every woman that gets pregnant in this country that the act of getting pregnant removes every right they have to control their own bodies and makes them less than those of the fertilized egg. There was an interesting article in Slate today that fleshed out what some of these effect could be…since the fetus has more rights than the mother, does that mean that there will criminal investigations of miscarriages? Since the fetus would now have rights that are individual to it, could a mother be prosecuted if she fell down some stairs and lost the baby? What if a women was diagnosed with cancer? Would she be required by law to not get treatment since the treatment may harm the fetus? Every woman in the US should be outraged at the repubs attempt to rescind their hard-fought rights and make them immediate second-class citizens just for getting pregnant…what a bunch of idiots…geez…
