Well…another day and way too much vegging so I think I’ll try to not do that today…but it is kind of hard to get motivated for some reason that I will try to figure out and change. There was some good football on yesterday so that made the lack of a Wings game a little more palatable and helped the time pass but that is the problem…making time pass so I don’t feel like I’m just wasting it…I do need to get moving forward again…and it is 8:23 and I am already getting into the boredom of the day…it did help to re-read the papers yesterday so that might be a plan for today, too….all this snow is a pain and running the car for 20 minutes just to go out to get the paper is not the best use of resources…I’ll bet I’m getting about 4 miles to the gallon while I wait for the windows to de-fog…oh, well…not much to do today…might try to see what K is doing and have a couple with her but will probably just hang out here and continue to veg…I will be back for one more today since I am struggling to get caught up…

More Keystone nonsense…
Well…just saw an ad that attacks Obama for the delay in approving the Keystone pipeline and I needed to comment on this boondoggle again….if you’ve been here before, you’ve read my previous comment that took to task the lies that are used by big oil and the right to get this environmental disaster in waiting approved….and this new ad just adds to these lies with a new one and one that has not gotten much press lately..at least not in the media that I read. That new lie contends that this pipeline will help the US with energy independence when it is just not true…all of the oil that goes to the refineries through this pipeline will be exported to other countries…none of it will be used to lower prices or to meet demand here in the US. So, who benefits from the risk from this pipeline? There is only one group that benefits…the oil companies…and that is the dirty little secret that supporters of this debacle don’t want you to know…geez….
January 14th
Well…running really late today…the whole process of going out to get the papers has been complicated by the snow and I don’t like it too much…but, it is January in Michigan so I guess I’ll just have to get used to it…not like it, though….it was a day yesterday but didn’t really get too much accomplished..I did finally get the kitchen semi-cleaned and that was good…but then just vegged it…and that is the plan for today, too, with the Wings playing at 12:30 and then some football later…it was a nice surprise to get a text from T yesterday and that made me smile the rest of the day….it almost overcame the depression from the snow…man…it’s 9am and I’m already bored….and I’m on the third cup of coffee, and I’ve already read the papers…maybe I’ll have to do what I used to and go back to really read them instead of skimming….could be something to do anyway…more later….
Hypocrisy from the Republicans…again
Well…I have a few thoughts that I want to get down on here so I will be adding to this one as the day goes on…first, I wanted to comment on the furor that is coming from the right on the recess appointments made this past week by the president and the subsequent ruling from the DOJ that the appointments are legal. The attacks center on the idea that since the senate repubs are trotting a senator out every few days to stand around in the senate chamber, the senate is in session and the president can’t appoint anyone until they can consent. This is utter nonsense since every president in history has made recess appointments and the DOJ has said that this is legal….but, that just drove the second set of attacks that ridicule the DOJ ruling on the appointments legality since the AG was appointed by Obama….but, they conveniently ignore the fact that the AG appointed by ole GW did exactly the same thing when it approved indefinite detentions for terror suspects…so, I call hypocrisy, again, on these idiots…maybe this one is long enought without adding to it…and if I do another, I will be caught up for the month…
January 13th
Well…it was a long day yesterday with shooting pool and then the Wings game which they won in a shootout….and Hank had the winning goal so that was cool…I do feel a little crappy today with a couple of cocktails and the snow weighing on me…but I know it’s the middle of January in Michigan and it has been a good winter so far…so I shouldn’t bitch too much….but, it is going to mean that I will be staying in today and just vegging…I should go out and get groceries today but that can wait until tomorrow if it has to…I think I should melt the car out of the block of ice that it is in, though…..not much to do today…I think I’ll just clean a little and then look at the news and see if it is going to get worse…more later….
Oh…and it’s Friday the 13th…not sure if that means anything…
Too much confusion…
Well…it has been a tumultuous week in politics and the happenings are making my head swim a little, sowing the seeds of confusion while I try to make sense of it. One of the things I find quite interesting is the attack line that is being used on ole Mitt…you would think that the other repubs in the primaries are really democrats with the populist attacks on Mitt’s tenure at Bain Capital…didn’t they get the memo that capitalism=good and, to quote Mitt, “the only people that are really successful are those that are in the 1%…”? It doesn’t matter to him that the majority of the 1% started out with lots of money (like him or Huntsman), or used their government connections (like Santorum or Gingrich) to get rich and these guys truly believe that it’s okay to rail against government on one hand and then profit from government on the other hand. I truly hope this continues since it is making me grin…but I will say it doesn’t take much to amuse me…
January 12th
Well…another night…but no cocktails so I feel good this morning and I think it will be a day to get things done here…and there is a winter storm coming so I may have to lay low for a couple of days…I do miss the beep, beep, beep, from getting my morning text from T since she is on vacation but maybe it’s a good thing to get used to not having it happen….it’s about time, I think. It was such a nice ride yesterday going out in shorts for the last time and getting 15 miles in but the damn tendinitis is back in my right elbow and it hurts like crazy…the last bout lasted almost 6 months but I’m not going to let it go that far this time…need to get the ibuprofen out and see if I can get the swelling down before I do too much damage…not much to do today…might shoot pool with Tom if the roads aren’t too bad but I guess I have to get used to driving in the snow again…have to get my emergency clothes in the car again, too, just in case something happens….more later…
Bain Capital’s brand of capitalism…
Well…interesting research in the papers today that revealed some facts about ole Mitt’s tenure at Bain…and his new stump speech claiming that, while at Bain, the company never took any “bailouts” or government assistance of any sort. Mitt, Mitt, Mitt…I really don’t understand how you guys don’t understand that there are records out there, that things can be fact checked…and this one is just a huge lie…in two instances, Bain was bailed out of debt by the government…once with the FDIC forgiving 10 million dollars that was owed…and the other when they killed a steel company and then dumped the pension liabilities on the government to the tune of 45 million dollars while the execs at Bain walked away with 10 million in bonuses…yep, that’s ole Mitt’s form of capitalism…swoop in, gut a company, and then profit from pushing the liabilities of those companies on the taxpayers. I don’t see this as any different from any other bailout that happened over the past few years…just another case of the rich taking advantage of the system to steal from you and me…geez…
378 million reasons to hate Apple…
Well…I’ve never been a fan of Apple products and the iron-fisted control that they exert over their use and, as such, have never owned one…with that disclaimer out of the way, I do need to comment on the news that came out yesterday that the new CEO there is going to be compensated 378 million dollars…yep, you heard it right…one person at Apple is going to make more money than entire countries do…doesn’t anyone else see anything wrong with that? Especially when Apple outsources all of it’s production to sweat shop factories in China? How many American’s could they employ if this idiot only took say 50 million dollars? Or, how many dividends could they pay to stockholders? Just another example of why people are showing up at “Occupy” rallies and the conversation has changed in this country to highlight this nonsense…especially when you can’t even say with a straight face that this idiot “earned” the money…so, I will shout into the wind again…Boycott Apple until this nonsense ends…geez…
January 11th
Well..it was a kind of fun night going out to watch the Wings game with C and K but I still don’t feel right this morning…the bug seems to be getting worse with the sore throat I have today so I think I’ll take it easy and take the rest of the week off from cocktails….the Wings really stunk the place up last night, too, so that was not a good thing…it looks like today is the last day of riding the bike for a while since the temps are going to go down into the 20’s for highs and that is just too cold for me…it’s going to snow, too, so that will make the trails impassable….not much to do today…and I really mean that…so I’m going to just sit here for a while and decide if I want to go out for coffee or not…more later…
