Well…if you haven’t heard, there is a new health crisis that is heading for the US in the form of a virus called Zika…and, as usual, the repubs are playing politics with the health of citizens who may be affected by it. When are these evil bastards going to do their jobs? Okay, I’m ranting about this because Obama has asked congress for 1.9 billion dollars to protect the country and the most vulnerable pregnant women from this serious virus but what do the repubs do? They poison pill the bill with the funding by adding on riders that would defund PP, that would defund Obamacare and a laundry list of other right wing wet dreams that they know Obama won’t agree to…and they are doing it to just score political points and to be able to say that the dems are the ones holding up funding since Obama will veto any bill that is not clean….now, I don’t know about you but I think these assholes should actually do something to benefit and protect the American people…there are now almost 500 pregnant Americans who are at severe risk of having babies with birth defects because the repubs think everything is about politics and scoring cheap politcal points…this is the modern repub party folks…the party of pure, pure evil….geez…

Another stake through the heart of “religious freedom”
Well…finally, the supreme court the other day drove a stake through another claim of “religious freedom” from a case in Washington State when they turned aside claims by some religious pharmacists who claimed that to have to fill prescriptions for birth control violated their first amendment rights to their free practice of religion. Now, maybe, this will drive religion back to where it belongs, in churches and not being used to force these fanatic’s warped view of religion on their customers….one thing that struck me was Alito’s petulant dissent that the only source of moral and ethical behavior is religion and by not allowing people to force their religion on others, religious freedom will die….that’s a paraphrase, not an actual quote but you get the meaning…and, as an atheist, I take extreme exception to this religious fool trying to tell we atheists can’t be moral or ethical…but, I assert that an atheist choosing to live his or her life morally or ethically without the fear of retribution that comes with religion puts our morality and ethics on a different level than when derived from religion….after all, with no hell to fear or no vengeful god to appease, we live moral and ethical lives because it is the right thing to do…and it’s our choice….
Money down the drain in Michigan…
Well…those wonderful, fiscally responsible repubs that are running our state flushed $800,000 of our dollars down the toilet over the past few months drug testing welfare recipients ostensibly to prevent them from spending welfare money on drugs. But, guess what? In all that testing not one person tested positive…and that explodes the repub myth that all welfare recipients are low life drug users…but, that’s not what testing is about anyway…it is just another way for the repubs to punish the poor since being poor, in the repub mind, is their fault and they are beneath contempt….I hope this starts to put an end to this nonsense once and for all…we all should let our reps know that this crap is unacceptable…won’t make any difference to the repubs but we should try…geez…
A good day for women…
Well…it is a good day for women’s rights today with the supreme court decision striking down a particularly onerous anti abortion law in Texas. In a total repudiation of so called “TRAP” laws that try to eliminate a woman’s right to choose by putting severe restrictions on the providers, the court ruled that the laws requiring doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital and that the clinics need to be mini hospitals were unconstitutional and placed an “undue burden” on women seeking abortions. So, that means that the 13 repub controlled states that have passed these laws will no longer be able to enforce this intrusion into the private decisions that a woman can make about her own health….and I hope will give these asses pause when they try to think up even more creative ways to deny women their rights. Yeah….I know, there is no stopping the repubs as they take away women’s rights, voting rights, and anyone else’s rights that they don’t personally agree with….but, I’ll take this decision today….
Brexit….
Well…not sure if you’ve been following it or not, but England just voted to leave the EU and, in the process, threw a wrench into the global financial system….with the Dow losing over 600 points in reaction. And, it didn’t need to happen…it was just a political miscalculation by their prime minister, Cameron, who has been wrong on almost everything since he took over…especially with his slavish devotion to austerity which has hit the middle class and the poor in England much more than the ruling classes. But, when you dig into the numbers, it was the old, white people who were duped into voting against their own self interest by racist, xenophobic lies…does that sound familiar? It is the template that the repubs have been using in the US for some time now and, up to this point, it has worked…you just have to look at the nomination of Trump who threw the racism into overdrive and shouts it every chance he gets…but, the problem with the low information voters in England that voted with their guts instead of their heads is that they have just resigned their country to almost permanent recession….and have sentenced their children to less than they had…less opportunity for good jobs and less chance for them to advance in the world….just what Trump wants to do here….the stupidity is just hard to fathom….geez…

Well…my cynicism has been destroyed today but a simple act that is going on in the US House of Representatives today where the dems have had enough of repub obstructionism of sensible gun legislation and are staging a sit in on the house floor. They are joined by their Senate colleagues who the repubs obstructed earlier in the week when THEY tried to get some sensible gun legislation passed…and the repub response? The chicken speaker of the house, Paul Ryan, ordered the cameras for C-span shut off so no one can see this remarkable act of civil disobedience but he is so stupid that he doesn’t understand that there are many other ways to get pictures out these days…then he forbids cameras of any type on the floor…now, which party is the one of freedom and progress and which one is for suppressing the will of the people? I think you can guess…GO DEMS!
An 8 year olds word salad…
Well…watched a bit of ole Donald’s supposedly “pivot” speech where he was supposed to show that he could be “presidential” and came away just shaking my head…the whole thing sounded like a word salad that some 8 year old would say…no, that’s not being fair to 8 year olds….the entire thing was Hillary bad, Hillary crook, Hillary murder, Hillary liar, Hillary responsible for everything bad that has happened in the world since she was born. I laughed when the fact checkers at MSNBC just threw in the towel since the whole speech was one big conspiracy laden lie fest…no policy, no nothing but 45 minutes of supposed applause lines that weren’t even getting much applause. So, do I need to ever watch one of these again? Not really…unless I want to see what the bizzarro world inside the Donald’s head looks like…it’s not pretty…..geez…oh, and he does have really tiny hands with stubby little fingers…couldn’t stop looking at them….
The Trump campaign really is a dumpster fire…
Well…have been trying to stay away from writing about the Donald for a while since it really makes me feel slimed like in Ghostbusters….but today, I think I’ll give it a go since there are things to comment on…first, ole Donald brags that he has raised more money than any campaign in history but then a problem comes up…he has to tell the truth to the FEC and we find he has a little over a million dollars on hand for the entire campaign…and it is easy to see why when the RNC gives him a list of twenty donors to call and he gets bored after 3 and says the hell with it…let someone else do it…all the while, Hillary’s campaign has already spent 23 million dollars on advertising in swing states…..kinda funny if you ask me…then, today, we find that the Trump campaign has spent 35,000 dollars on some fake company that may or not exist for “consulting”….now, having lived through Watergate, this appears to be just a slush fund to drain money from the campaign and enrich someone on the campaigns cronies….just like happens all the time with any Trump project….and then we find that 20% of all expenditures from Donald’s campaign has gone to businesses that he owns…and he has spent more on hats than on staff to run his dumpster fire of a campaign….man, I hope he keeps this up through the convention…I have lots of popcorn and will watch it for the first time in many cycles….I really think Donald thinks that running for president is just like his reality show….or he is confused on what reality is…either way it’s going to be fun to watch the implosion….
Too good to be true…
Well….I usually have to read some news item in at least a couple of places before I will believe it…but, sometimes something comes along that I just want to be true so that requirement is suspended…one of those came along yesterday with rumors the Clarence Thomas is thinking of retiring from the supreme court. I know, your first thought is “who would notice?” since he holds the record for the fewest questions asked by a justice in the history of the court and has no thoughts of his own…acting as little more than an echo chamber for Scalia’s rantings. I can understand why he would be thinking about leaving now…after all, when Hillary is elected and appoints a progressive judge, Thomas’s only job will then be to write dissents to cases that the conservative block will lose and that will just piss those asses off…maybe we can get Alito to do the same? Or all of the conservatives? All I know is that with progressive control, there won’t be any more “Citizen’s United” or cases that will infringe on a woman’s right to chose…to Thomas all I have to say is don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out….geez…
Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy…
Well…I didn’t know if it was possible for me to hate one person as much as I hate Ted Cruz…but, guess what? It IS possible after his speech in the senate today that was dripping with so much hypocrisy I wonder why he didn’t drown in it. Everyone knows that ole Ted is one of the biggest haters of the LGBT community in the entire US and has made that known through his associations with people and organizations that advocate the killing of LGBT people if they can’t be “converted” by christianity….and these same groups have been instrumental in taking the culture wars to Africa…where, in Uganda, they have worked their dark magic to get the government there to make being gay a crime that is punishable by life in prison but their first iteration of the legislation basically let anyone kill anyone that is found to be gay. These are the people that ole Ted still supports so when he comes out and announces his sorrow at the killings in Orlando, he is being the biggest hypocrite in the US…he doesn’t give a damn about LGBT people and never has…just another of his calculated lies that he thinks will get him the repub nomination in 4 years….geez….
