RIP Joe Cocker…

Well…just read on the news that Joe Cocker has died at the age of 70….I remember seeing him in the film “Woodstock” and was just fascinated with the intensity he showed in not only that performance but in every other one that I saw…an especially funny one was when he was on “Saturday Night Live” and during the performance John Belushi came out in his Joe Cocker character and I just laughed my butt off…just listened to his version of “Feeling alright” on the ride today…what a great blues voice… RIP Joe….

Topics, topics, topics…

Well…there are still a dearth of topics, at least in my head and in things that interest me right now…so we’re going to go free form again and see what happens…man, what a bunch of cowards at Sony Pictures that have folded on the release of their new movie ‘the Interview” just because of some puny threats from North Korea…so now they are going to let other countries censor what is shown in the US? I wonder what is in the e-mails that NK is threatening to release…if they are anything like the business e-mails I’ve written in my lifetime, they might be a danger to bore someone to death but that is about it.  I am a little disappointed that Space X has postponed their latest launch until sometime in January…I was really looking forward to seeing them try to land the booster on that floating platform they have…oh, well….it was a pretty cool last show of “the Colbert Report” with all of the guests coming on and singing “We’ll Meet Again”…..but, it did flash me back to the end of “Dr. Strangelove” when the same song is overlayed over the nuke explosions….anything else?  Nope, not right now….going to see if there is some soccer on and just veg awhile….

Can’t believe this one…

Well…just reading a little news online and came across a story that I just can’t believe…with all of the scrutiny that police have come under over the past few months, how stupid does and officer need to be to do this…stop a black man walking down the street because he has his hands in his pockets…on a winters day, when it’s cold outside. Yep, this really happened here in Michigan…Pontiac police must recruit idiots…and the additional reasons were the “people” were concerned…when asked what people, the cop just kept saying “people” then went on to the normal BS that they use on black people all the time…like what are you doing here? etc. etc….and just trying to roust the guy but he got it all on his phone and now it’s all over the internet…there should be consequences for this kind of crap….what’s next? Shooting someone for having their hands in their pockets in the winter? This idiot cop should at least get a reprimand for this crap and forced to actually be trained in what his job is…to protect and to serve…geez…

Unbelievable if true….

Well…have been thinking about this one since I read the article last week and thought I’d talk a  little about it…if you are a fan of Led Zeppelin like I am, I’m sure you’ve read about the offer that Richard Branson (of Virgin everything) made to the remaining members of the band…that he would pay them 800 million dollars to do a tour of 32 shows next year…yep, that’s 800 million dollars….around 25 million a show…and the even stranger thing? Robert Plant said no so there will be no tour…now, I’m not sure what the hell happened between these guys to have Robert feel this way but turning down 800 million? I guess he doesn’t need the money….geez….

Just another one…

Well…as I expected, it has been a total veg day today since the couch was so inviting and there was just tons of sports on…in the middle of the race right now and then the Wings start at 6 or so so that will keep me busy until Walking Dead comes on at 9…yep, I do live a boring life right now but that’s okay…the Lions did another come from behind win this aft and I don’t remember the last time they won 4 in a row so that was cool and a pleasant surprise after I gave up on them earlier…..but I just had a feeling they may do something special so I turned it back on with a little under three minutes left…I am getting excited about the comet landing on Wed…nope, going to turn that one into a post of it’s own later in the week….so, I guess that’s enough for now..still haven’t read any news since last week and it really hasn’t been a bad thing…might just keep that up for a while…

McDonald’s trash…

Well…as you know, I have been quite bored lately and, trying to keep my brain occupied, I have been a doing a few small things like counting wooly bears, snakes, and other things along the trail…but, this newest one was spurred or by seeing trash along the roadside. So, for the past couple of weeks, I have been counting fast food trash that I see along the road just to see what restaurant has the biggest litterers in their clientele…and the winner, with over 90% of the litter is McDonald’s….93 of the 102 bags I counted over the past two weeks were from McDonald’s and I wonder why that would be…not sure I’m ready to draw any conclusions yet but I will after I think about it for a while….but, right now, back to soccer….

Trains and Locomotives….

Well…being behind for the month, I thought I’d just do one on this weird show that I have become hooked on on the RFD channel…this one is dedicated to farmers, ranchers and country living but has a few shows that I watch when I can find them…one of those is “Trains and Locomotives” that consists of grainy old 8 and 16mm films of huge old steam engines going down the tracks…a little narration is all that comes with the shots and it is somehow sort of compelling to see these million pound machines hauling along the tracks….not sure if it is the bygone era that interests me or that they just sound and look so cool….but, I find myself watching every time it’s on…weird….

RIP Jack Bruce….

Well…it not a happy day when another musician that you like dies….and today it was Jack Bruce. Best known for being the bassist for Cream and singing many of their hits like “White room” and “Badge” with Eric Clapton, he also had a long and varied career with groups that read like a who’s who of the 60′s and 70′s…even spending some time with Leslie West in the group West, Bruce and Laing….not much else to say right now except rest in peace, Jack….

If you had any doubt..

Well…if you had any doubt about the damage that human activities have had on the environment…beyond global warming…you just have to look at the new study that just came out over the past few days that found that populations of wildlife have declined by 56% on average over the past 40 years…more than half of the world’s wildlife is gone in just 40 years…I’m sure that the climate change deniers will say that it is just “natural variation” and that humans have nothing to do with it…but, deforestation and destruction of habitats to continue to strip mine and harvest dirty energy is a major factor in this decline….but, we won’t learn, after all who cares if there are tigers or elephants left in wild…they just get in the way of the speed of the destruction of the planet…geez…

Just saw “The Unbelievers”

Well….in a haze of boredom, I was just surfing through Netflix and came upon a documentary called “The Unbelievers” about Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss and their efforts to promote science and reason instead of the superstition that is religion. It was surprising to see some famous people who “came out” as atheists in this film but also refreshing….people like Adam Savage from Mythbusters….Penn Gillette, Cameron Diaz, Woody Allen and many other people who have embraced the idea that religion needs to go. One of the signs that I saw in the crowd at the biggest atheist rally in history in Washington summed up the contrast…”Science flies people into space…religion flies people into buildings…” Might make that my sig line over at Kos for a while….
