Well…it has been a lazy day today and I haven’t done anything but watch sports so I thought I’d talk about that to get caught up….it was a pretty cool game that put State into the final four but I will admit that I didn’t watch the whole thing…just too nerve wracking when they were behind so I kept switching over to one of the 3 races that were on at the same time….and then I forgot about the F1 race that I wanted to see so I’ll have to see if I can find another repeat…it was a little boring this week with no BPL soccer on but there were some games from Spain that were pretty cool….oh, the Wings played good last night but are getting pummeled right now so I stopped watching that one…..okay…that’s enough for now…unless I think about something else…but I probably won’t….only one behind now…

A little more sports…
Well…yeah, I know…you’re expecting something in politics but it’s just not grabbing me so I’m going to do some sports instead…it was a nice morning watching Man U finally play like they can going up 3-0 in the first half and looking like they used to…but I am still a little concerned with how they looked in the second when they went a little flat and almost let Spurs back in it but I think that is the approach that many teams take when they get a lead in soccer…or hockey, too…why can’t they just keep their foot on the gas and keep doing what made them successful in the first half? At least they are well into 4th place which will put them in the Champions League next year. The second thing I wanted to talk about is the Wings and how terribly they have been playing lately…although they won in Pittsburg today 5-1…unless they can get back to some measure of consistancy, the playoffs could be in danger….but, we’ll see….there is a race on in a few minutes and I need a nap….
A little Red Wings…
Well…it has been an interesting run of late with the Wings…they have been playing well and with much more grit than they showed this time last year. It has gotten to the point where I am back to where I was in the last Stanley Cup run…that I expect them to look good and win games. One of the funny coincidences or bounces from last nights game was that one of the new guys Zidlicky, got the game winner in OT…pretty good way to start your time with the Wings. I know that both he and Cole are just rentals but they may be of some help in the playoffs. It was also good to see Hank back last night after being out with a head injury for the past 4 games…and the news that Frantzen is gone for the season was not a surprise since getting the elbow to the head back in January and not playing since. It is going to be an interesting 6 weeks to the end of the season and then hope for a long playoff run…if they keep playing like they are, it could be a good spring.
Stopping NHL concussions…
Well….after two of our stars on the Wings have been put out of commission by hits to the head this season, I think there needs to be a re-think of the penalties that are levied when these things happen…and a flash came to me this morning how to stop these dangerous hits right in their tracks…it’s pretty simple really…the person causing the injury should be suspended until the injured player comes back…in the case of Frantzen’s injury where the dirty hit to the head has put him out possibly for the rest of the season…the idiot who hit him would be suspended without pay for the rest of the season and if he can’t come back, that’s it for the guy who hit him….and the same thing would be effective for the idiot who punched Hank a few games back and put him out for two games now and possibly many more. I think people would stop these intentional dirty plays if the cost was high enough….there is no place for this kind of crap with the bigger, faster players that are in the NHL now who can end a career with just one hit….
Some sports…
Well….as you can see, these are a little fillery but I have to do something to ensure I meet my goals for the month…I wish I was getting paid for this so I could blame it on my boss forcing me to do it but that’s just not true….I wish it was….there was a race on today that was a bore until the last 20 laps or so…and that’s out of 200 so it really did live up to my name of “Napcar” instead of Nascar and I did get a nap in even though I didn’t need it…a bad bit of news came from the weird Wings game last night where one of the Stars punched Hank in the head and now he is out for a while…I hope that idiot gets a suspension and a big fine…no place for that crap unless both guys are going in a fight….I won’t talk about Man U any more since they are losing to everyone and won’t make the Champions League again next year….not sure what their problem is but changing the coach didn’t help….anything else? Nope, not for now….
Ball gate…
Well…I’m not sure if you’ve been following the whole nonsense with the under inflated balls that were used in the championship game a couple of weeks ago but I just can’t believe how big of a deal this has become…especially since the Patriots won by more than 30 points…2 pounds of air give that much of an advantage? Never in a million years…this just goes back to every sport since sport was invented…people cheat, one of the best lines I ever heard on this subject was said by Junior Johnson about NASCAR racing many years ago…”if you’re not cheatin’, you’re not tryin”…..not that I condone cheating but 2 pounds of air? Seems to be sour grapes by the team that lost…and lost by a humiliating margin….maybe they should play better…this is what the whiners do…make excuses….and tear down the super bowl that they are supposed to revere so much….not that I give a damn about a bunch of guys making millions to play a kids game….maybe they should stop complaining or go really work for a living….geez…
The FA cup…
Well….as you know, I’m a big soccer fan and I have written about it a few times here when something happens that I need to talk about. This weekend in the FA cup (the English Football Association), one of the many tournaments that the BPL and other European teams play in, there were happenings that made me grin like an idiot…not that I don’t look like that all the time. I wonder if it is wrong to root against teams that oppose your favorite? If it is, than I was really, really wrong this weekend…and really, really happy. that is because both Chelsea and Manchester City got beaten by teams from the lower leagues that are part of the contest….I guess I should explain how the leagues work there…they have tiers of leagues just like our A, AA, AAA, and the major leagues in baseball, but in this tournament they play each other…so you can have the analog of the the Tigers playing the Whitecaps in a win to move ahead tournament. But, that’s not what I wanted to talk about…just wanted to be happy that Man U’s nemesis all lost this weekend and they are still in it….yeah, I know, doesn’t mean much to you but it does to me….
It’s just wrong….
Well….have been vegging completely today but thought I really had to make a little comment on the new college football playoff that starts today….first, it’s just wrong to not have a Big Team team in the Rose Bowl…in my entire life…and that’s a long, long time, the Rose Bowl was where I could root for one of the teams from the midwest and now that’s done….at least until the Big Ten get better…and, the other thing about this whole playoff scenario is that I have to hold my nose and root for that team from Ohio to beat Alabama tonight just so the big Ten will be in the championship game…really, really hard to do for a Michigan fan….and, with State getting beat today, it’s our last hope…I know…Wisconsin won it’s game in OT but they just aren’t Michigan….so, I guess I’ll go watch the Rose Bowl in a few minutes and maybe pretend that Oregon is a Big Ten team for the afternoon…anything to see the Florida team lose….
Okay…just a quick update….State didn’t lose…when I was writing this they were down by 21 in the 4th but they came back to win it 42-41…and I missed much of it since they looked so awful in the first half….oh,well…
Trying to think…
Well..I have been trying to think of a topic all day today with very little luck again so I think I’ll just do a mash up small thoughts that have been rattling around in my brain for a while now….first, it looks like Jim Harbaugh will be the new football coach at Michigan and I think I’m happy about that…he’s been successful everywhere he’s coached but so was Brady Hoke and we all know how that turned out…so, I guess I’ll just keep my fingers crossed as I wait and see…it will be a pain to wait through another rebuilding project and it looks like another lost season for next year…the shifter on the bike did a total crap out on the ride today…twice…so I took it off the bike and soaked it in simple green to see it that helps….I did notice that one of the pins that the action pivots on had worked out so maybe that was the problem? I did get it back together and all of the gears work now so we’ll see tomorrow when I take it out….it does have over 12,000 miles on it so it may just be wearing out…if so, they are only 20 bucks or so so I’ll just buy another one…more later…
A little sports…
Well…as promised, going to do a little commenting on sports that have happened recently…or maybe not recently but I have something to say about it that I just haven’t gotten to…first…we had a Man U victory yesterday over Liverpool but they looked pretty bad doing it…the final score was 3-0 but without the goaltending of DeGea, it could have easily been a loss of 5-3…I can’t understand why it is so hard for them to defend and why they continue to get caught out on breakaways…a win is a win, though, and it gets them closer to champions league next year…second, the Lions are 10-4? They too played like crap yesterday and the defense had to bail them out time and again…again, I can’t understand how they can gain 500 plus yards one week and then can’t do anything the next….oh, one last thing…they should let Suh go to anywhere else next year…he doesn’t want to be in Detroit and I think his best playing is behind him anyway….okay, third….I am confused about the trades that have been going on with the Tigers lately…last year, they gave up Doug Fister for basically nothing, and this year they give up Rick Porcello for some old journeyman center fielder….and Fister has his best season of his career and Porcello is looking to be developing into a great starter and he is only 25…they had a good 7 or 8 years left in him and they just gave him away…oh, well….still have the Wings….but they are on a losing streak that needs to end soon….more later…
