They caught the car…

Well…it would be funny if it wasn’t so sick to see the repubs now start running away from abortion bans as they start to get what they wanted…after the fall of Roe, overturned by the lying right wing SC, they have been writing more and more draconion abortion bans across the red states..along with court opinions with the latest being the upholding of an 1865 law by the SC in Arizona that banned abortion and was written by one man, a misogynist asshole that serially abandoned 5 wives…I guess he would fit right in with the modern repubs…the sick thing is that the repubs are saying striking down roe didn’t matter since the states would protect women…tell that to women in red states who are dying because they can’t get necessary health care…and the hypocrite repubs are now decrying the Arizona decision, not for the reason that they believe women have any rights, but because they know that restriction of women’s rights is a political loser and will cost them in the fall election…and the cool thing is the Joe Biden is already pounding the repubs with ads targeting their hypocrisy and the danger of letting repubs get back into power…that is something I have been saying for a long time…that Joe need to hit the repubs and hard…and they got the message and have 130 million dollars in ad buys reserved while the idiot trump’s campaign has zero…keep it going, Joe…geez…

This is sick…

Well…as days go by the repubs get more and more sick in their treatment of women who seek to use their constitutional right to control their bodies and seek an abortion. Starting with Utah, I think, who just recently passes a new law that says that women having an abortion must undergo general anathesia when the procedure is being performed….never mind that this decision should be between the doctor and their patient, these idiots have just made it dangerous to get an abortion when it is one of the safest medical procedures that is done…much safer than colonoscopies even…now we have Arizona joining in on the hurt women bandwagon by ignoring the FDA and legislating the dosage of the common abortion drug. Over time, as drugs are used and more data is available, doctors and the FDA will frequently change the dosing recommendations to reflect the usage data. That is just what happened with the most commonly used abortion drug, doctors have tried lower doses to good effect, that the side effects are greatly reduced by the lower doses…but, what do the sadist, misogynists repubs do then? They pass a law in Arizona that forces doctors to prescribe the drug at the old dosage levels…and the only reason for that is that they truly want to punish women for getting abortion by making sure they get sick from the drug. What the hell is wrong with these assholes? And, what is wrong with the people who vote for this crap? Nevermind that this law is unconstitutional and comes from the idiots who supposedly revere the document, what business is it of theirs telling doctors what to do? What’s next? Do they bring back bleeding people to cure them of diseases?  Geez….

Hypocrites again….

Well…I find the recent normal of the repubs hating something (like gay rights) until it affects themselves or their own family, to be just another indicator that they have no moral center left at all. The latest version of this hypocritical nonsense lies with the reps from Arizona who all voted against the relief for the victims of hurricane Sandy…the millions of people who live in the heathen northeast, and are now having a pissing match with FEMA since they won’t send aid for the wildfire damage that happened in Arizona. Now, you might think this would be payback for their just general nastiness since these folks just hate everyone…but the damage is small enough for the state to handle and that is just what FEMA said…but these idiots, who preach that the states should run everything in their state without federal interference, are just trying to force the costs of firing firefighters that they don’t want to pay for and the resulting damage on the federal government…tough luck, McCain…and Flake…remember Detroit when you continue your whining and the fact that you said you’d block any aid while they restructure…karma’s a bitch….geez…

Impeach Scalia…

Well…if it wasn’t clear before that Antonin Scalia was abrogating his responsibilities as a supreme court justice with his naked partisanism and his constant ignoring of legal precedence to advance the conservative agenda, you only have to read excepts of the 22 page screed that he wrote in response to the majority opinion striking down most of Arizona’s draconian immigration law. In it, he breaks all judicial decorum and attacks a sitting president by name, blaming the lack of immigration reform on the Obama administration; never mind that administrations from Reagan on forward have all had the responsibility to act but no one has the political courage to do what’s right for the country and then goes on to laud Arizona for doing something…anything, on immigration even though the majority of the court ruled that what they did was illegal. He then goes on to excoriate the majority basically calling them idiots for the ruling. What stark raving hubris from this judge who is supposed to rule on the law, not on what his conservative friends want him to rule…and whose actions of the past years where he strategized with the far right on how to defeat Obama should have disqualified him from the bench. With this latest explosion of bad manners, he has shown he does not belong on the court…but the only way to remove him is to impeach him…which I wholeheartedly support….geez…

Arizona is the model if the Republicans win…

Well…just a short one to comment on the jaw-dropping new bill that is being passed in Arizona concerning women’s access to birth control….this new bill would make women prove they are not using birth control for non-medical reasons…like for contraception before their medical plans would cover this necessary medicine….and the worst part is that it would allow all employers to not cover birth control without any reason….and, depending on the interpretation, may allow employers to fire women who use it….I’m not making this up people….this is what the US is going to look like if the repubs win the White House this fall….I just have nothing more to add to this one…just can’t believe we are still talking about this nonsense in 2012…geez…

An explanation?

Well…coffee, newspapers, and music are quite restorative and I had an idea materialize that I wanted to get down before I forget it…it may turn out that I should have forgotten, but here goes….we’ve heard all of the parsing of the tragedy in Arizona; that the shooter was left wing, that he was right wing, that his actions were caused by the heated political vitriol, that he was just a crazy…on and on, and on. But, something that just came to me a few minutes ago may or may not be pertinent…it seems like crazy ideas now have an official stamp to them since they are spouted by ‘news” organizations and public figures….it used to be that the crazies only had their own brains and thoughts and they would live in that closed off little world, with the rest of the society acting as a normality counterbalance. But now, those with crazy ideas can get them reinforced daily by just listening to talk radio or Fox news…can there be a feedback loop that spurs these crazies to action? That makes them think that their thoughts are normal?

Just a thought….and I may come back later to add to it….oh…I did add to the one below so take a look if you want…

Good to see and hear…

Well…it’s finally good to see some of those on the left starting to use their heads….the wholesale rush to politicize the Arizona tragedy has started to be repudiated, with apologies coming from many of those who jumped to conclusions for their own agendas….a good thing to see that even in this supercharged political environment, there are still lines of propriety and standards that we can all agree on….except sister Sarah…who yesterday put out a video with 8 minutes of the “I’m the victim” schtick she has used since she started in politics….defending her behavior like a petulant 8 year old and including no pledge to cool the rhetoric. But, she couldn’t do that…then where would she get her money? I know, I shouldn’t turn this into a bashing but…we are all in this together and words do matter….geez….

I don’t agree, Keith…

Well…just as I predicted, many commentators are using the Arizona tragedy to try to further their political goals…and the attacks by the left on Sarah Palin, particularly by Keith Olbermann have me dismayed…but, I guess he’s not one of the reasonables that I talk about. Let’s get this straight at the top….the shooter was just frickin crazy; no political component to it, no connection to the abhorrent, hate filled speech from the right or to SP’s crosshair imagery…just another nut that heard the voices in his head and acted on it. So, what do we take away from this? is there anything to take away from this? There have been calls for tighter gun laws that may have prevented this nut from getting guns but we all know that it’s not true. Even if all guns were outlawed, rounded up and destroyed, it would take an enterprising criminal about 10 seconds to figure out how to make a profit and supply the underground demand that would result. What would have stopped this nut from just ramming his car into the crowd?

I didn’t really think about it until now but I guess this is somewhat of a defense of gun owners, most of whom are responsible and their legal guns never used for any purpose than what they are supposed to be used for. I grew up around them and many friends still own them…not once have they used them for illegal purposes. That said, there is a problem with them here in the US….just saw a statistic that between 1979 and 1997, more people were killed by guns in the US than in all of the wars we’ve fought since 1775…it makes the 3,000 plus killed on 9/11 kind of pale by comparison. I don’t have the solution..but I do know that it is wrong to exploit this tragedy for political purposes…shame on everyone that does…geez…

I guess I’ll weigh in…

Well…the tragedy in Arizona has my thoughts all over the place….and I’m really trying to make them coherent, to understand how we got to this place. But, one of the things I think we can’t forget in our rush to categorize it is that 6 people died…why can’t we just mourn for these people? Why do we always feel the need to explain, dissect, and assign blame, then have everyone come out of the woodwork to try to take political advantage for their own agenda? A nine year old girl died….isn’t that enough? Isn’t it enough that these families have been torn apart?

There will be plenty of time for analysis as time passes…just not now.

Arizona and Immigration

Well….reading all of the furor over the new immigration law that was just signed in Arizona, and the predictable stances from the left and right, I think of one question that is not being asked: Why are the illegals there? I think it’s pretty well settled that they are there for jobs. Then, that drives you to a second question: who gives them the jobs they are there to fill? I think that question is a little more complex and the explanations have run the gamut but center on the assumption that they are there to do jobs that Americans won’t do.

I can’t fault the people of Arizona for being frustrated that 6-7 percent of their population are illegals, but I think their anger is misguided; Why aren’t they mad that employers in their state are creating the problem by hiring illegals? Why aren’t these employers being held up as unpatriotic because all they can see is the increased profits that come with a workforce that is an unethical company’s dream: non-union, non-voting people who can be abused at will. But, by using the illegals, they are just passing on the costs that would come from an American workforce (higher wages and healthcare, pensions, etc.) on to Arizona’s and the U.S. society as a whole since it has been argued repeatedly by the right that illegals send their children to our schools and use our emergency rooms for their health needs. This means higher profits for the company and bigger bonuses for the managers.

I’ve always thought that business needs to be socially responsible and pay it’s employees enough for them to have the chance to do what our founding father’s codified in the founding documents; “the pursuit of happiness”.

You and I pay our fair share as members of our society. Why shouldn’t business? Geez….
