No big topics…

Well…have been thinking and thinking to try to come up with a big topic for the day with no success so I guess I’ll just go on about a few small ones…let’s start with the pope resigning…the first thing that came into my head was “who cares?” Can’t think of a more irrelevant person in the world today…presiding over an institution that has long outlived its usefulness and has devolved into almost a hate group…I mean, did you read his “Christmas” message where he went on and on about how bad gays and lesbians are and tried to justify discriminating against them? The world would be a better place if they would just go away and stop trying to impose the 12th century on women in this country and across the world…and that goes for the rest of organized religion as well.

Okay…new topic…you can see how far the repubs have sunk into crazy with the threat from Lindsey Graham to filibuster the presidents picks for Sec Def and CIA director…let’s put this in context…this has never happened in the history of the country…not once has a cabinet selection been blocked in this manner and I am so tired of the repubs thinking up new ways to screw up the country…

Moving on to Michigan….where are the jobs Republicans? Oh, no jobs legislation? No, nothing but more of the same…raise taxes on the people, cut taxes for corporations, and try to restrict womens rights to control their own bodies….I think you can see the genesis of the malaise that I have been feeling lately with the crap that is going on across the US…and don’t get me started on the extra-legal drone policies that Obama has just released…I think this country has lost it’s collective mind and it’s taking mine with it…geez…

Flip flopping must be contagious..

Well….it looks like flip flopping might be contagious with the comment that Paul Ryan made yesterday on the role of government in peoples lives…in case you are unaware, ole Ryan is the author of many bills that would restrict the right of women to contraceptives and abortion…so, yesterday he comes out and uses for an example of government abuses the new contraceptive requirement that he feels is taking away the rights of the Catholic church to control the women that work for it..so, he thinks it’s bad for government to impose regulations that would help women but he thinks it’s just peachy when government is used to take rights away….what a crazy, screwed up idiot…and this is the future of the repub party? I hope so…then we will never see another one in the White House…geez…

They’re starting to get desperate….

Well…it has been another day of not doing much but I have been thinking about a few things so I thought I’d get them down and see if they make any sense…first, I laughed my butt off when ole Rick Santorum was touring, supposedly to support Romney, and went off about Obama gutting the first amendment since he wants Catholic organizations to cover birth control…what an old attack line and I don’t know where this is going to get them…so, if the Catholics or any other religious organization want to discriminate for any reason, it would be okay according to ole Rick….so if they didn’t want to hire minorities, they would be protected? Just more nonsense from the right and their idea that there should be allowed priveleged classes that the law doesn’t apply to…I think it’s even what their whole party is based on…

Oh, I guess I should get to the title…with the Ryan selection and the fact that the polls continue to show that ole Mitt is losing ground, it looks like ole Paul’s radicalism is only serving to fire up the base….and those folks were never going to vote for Obama anyway….and now we have McCain coming out attacking Joe Biden for being Joe…it appears that these folks are flailing around trying to find anything that will work….and the tone deaf Romney campaign is trotting ole Mitt’s wife back out to defend not releasing any more tax returns…but even funnier is the fact that Mitt is proud of the fact that he paid 13% in taxes and thinks it is just fine that he takes advantage of laws that were bought by people like him so they don’t have to pay their fair share…what a bunch of idiots…geez…

Just a couple of things…

Well…I did have a couple of comments to make and wanted to make them before I forget so here goes…there was an interesting article in the WAPO today that makes the clear and evident point that the dysfunction in Washington today is the repubs fault and the false equivalence that the right tries to make that the left is just as responsible is laid to rest by a clear argument…one that I have made here more than a year ago…but it is nice when your ideas get confirmed by other writers….you should go there and read it…I think they even do a better job that I have…the next thing I wanted to say is about the dustup that Paul Ryan had with the Catholic bishops and others in the Catholic church when he claimed that his proposed draconian cuts to the social safety net fit with Catholic teachings…at least the way he sees it….but the bishops landed on him with two feet and in no uncertain terms told him he was dead wrong…that giving tax cuts to the rich and corporations and paying for them by cutting every program that doesn’t benefit the rich is not what the Bible teaches…but, as the overly self assure repubs do, ole Paul kept up his attacks saying that he was a better judge of the teachings of the church on social justice than the bishops are….what a huge load of hubris from this idiot….geez….

A short one for those of us that see irony in history..

Well…I’m not sure what is going on in my head today but I’ve had quite a few ideas that I wanted to get down…and that is unusual to say the least, but bear with me…this one might just be worth it…I’m one of the people left in the US that still sees the importance of at least knowing history to make useful connections or see the irony that is frequently contained in it. I say this because I’m old enough to remember the furor over John Kennedy’s faith in the 1960 election; people then were concerned then that Rome and the Pope would call the shots through a Catholic president and the repubs used his Catholicism to try to paint Kennedy as a scary person who would check every decision with the Pope. Then, fast forward to today where we have ole Rick Santorum saying that all of his governance, if elected, would conform to his Catholic faith and the hard right that supports him cheers….ah….irony is lost on the idiots on the right…but it sure makes me laugh at times….

The right is still delusional…

Well…as every day goes by, I have more and more hope that the right will continue is descent into the delusions they have been experiencing since the start of the primary season. The latest in this long list is the idea that, if re-elected, Obama will “wage war” on the Catholic church and somehow cause an institution that has survived for almost 2,000 years to disappear…whether is should or not is not a topic for today but when it and it’s supporters on the right coordinate attacks on Obama for a reasonable rule on contraception saying that as a matter of faith, the Catholic institutions should not have to abide by rules that are already the law of the land in over 30 states, it is the right that is denigrating religion by cynically using it as a ploy for political advantage. So, the right, who wraps itself in the Constitution on a daily basis thinks every law should be subject to a matter of faith; only following those that match their religious beliefs? I defy them to find that kind of nonsense in the Constitution…since the founding of this country, people have been free to practice whatever religion they see fit but never has religion trumped the law of the land…and this comes from the party of laws against Sharia and it’s use in the legal system…but, we all know they would love to have the US become a theocracy…just like the Muslim countries they love to hate…geez…

As a moderate progressive who wants this country to succeed for everyone, I just hope they keep this nonsense up all the way to their convention…by then, they will have shown their true colors to the independents and other moderates that will swing the election and we will send all of these crazies home for another 4 years and maybe get back to making an America for all Americans, not just the wealthy and connected…
