Well…just a few things that I want to comment on this morning to try to get back in the swing of things and get some political commentary going again…first…I just can’t wait for the Iowa nonsense to be over and done with…and I am glad I don’t live there to have to listen to and see all of the political ads that have dominated the airwaves…but there will be one bright spot to come out of today..or maybe two…we probably won’t have to listen to Michelle Bachmann or Rick Perry any more since they are both likely to finish well back in the pack…I don’t know why anyone listened to them anyway…they are two of the most stupid sounding politicians that I have ever heard…and I’ve been around a long time. I really can’t wait until they start to hammer ole Mitt on his claims to have created over 100K jobs while at Bain Capital when it is just not true…never created one job….remember that folks…never created one job and I look forward to him having to really answer for his destructive reign there and personally profiting in the hundreds of millions of dollars while he and his cronies looted companies that would still be alive if it weren’t for them.
Oh, one last thing….I see that the incestuous right wing media nonsense continues in today’s Detroit News where they treat their house dog Manny Lopez as an independent writer when they published his screed about Obama’s vacation and ole Manny’s contention that Obama can’t care about the 99 percenters since he is one of the one percent. The first thing to me is that there should be disclosure that Manny is regular columnist at the News and to make it look like he is an independent “other voice” is just dishonest and only adds to the echo chamber that is the right wing media. The more salient point to make here, though, is that Obama worked hard and achieved his way to the one percenter that he is…he didn’t have mommy or daddy start him on third base and tell him he hit a triple…geez….
Well..it just pisses me off when one of the 1% starts to lecture us on what, in his warped, privileged mind, is wrong with society today. He is lecturing us on entitlement? Romney, who was born the son of wealthy parents who has all the best in life with no struggle to pay the rent, put food on the table, or send the kids to college? I’ve had enough of the elites and their rich buddies faking that they even give a damn about anyone but themselves and then continue to steal what rightfully belongs to the middle class, without who the rich would not be rich…the only sense of entitlement here in the US belongs to the rich who think they got to where they are by hard work…and that is just nonsense…they got where they are with the connections and old boy networks that do not operate on merit…they operate on cronyism and the winks and nods that come with a rigged system. Mitt, why don’t you just go back to Bain Capital and ship some more jobs overseas…that is the only thing you are good for….geez….
Well…one of the funny things that came out of the repub debate from a couple of days ago falls under the heading of “can Mitt be this stupid” and made me laugh like crazy. When ole Mitt was spouting the usual talking points of repealing “Obamacare”, he made mention of a comparison that the left has been making for decades now…that every other industrialized country in the world pays less for healthcare than the US does…and he attributed the extra cost to the government being involved. But, what he fails to realize is that every other country that he noted has some form of a single-payer system that the government runs. So, now, Mitt…are you for or against a single-payer system? Or are you going to be against it today and for it tomorrow? Or, are you saying that the lie you and your repub cronies are spouting is just a cynical ploy to ensure that the insurance companies can continue to steal from the country?
Which is it, Mitt? Or,is it both…or is it neither? And, what will it be tomorrow?
Well…I wonder when the general public is going to wake up and get it that the repubs idea of fairness is to tax the poor and middle class while giving more and more breaks to the rich? The latest folly is ole Mitt’s idea of reforming the tax code by replacing it with a flat tax…and idea that came and went a long time ago that would be a tax cut for the rich while raising taxes on everyone else…just like ole Herm’s 999 plan. Why do the repubs hate the poor and middle class so much? That is evidenced here in Michigan by the scramble of the repubs to take away the last vestiges of the safety net by throwing people off welfare and limiting unemployment and food stamps for the newly poor. And those moves were supported by a sense of urgency, like the entire state will disappear if we don’t save a few million dollars by attacking the least of us. But, when it comes to cutting their own benefits to help with the state budget deficit…like the lifetime healthcare legislators get after just one term in office, that can wait until 2014 when most of this current crop of thieves will already be retired…just more and more of the “I’ve got mine, the hell with everyone else” attitude that has been the repubs mantra for the last thirty years….when are we going to get tired of this nonsense?
Well…this is going to be a short one since I have been a little distracted by the Washington Post project…but I had to comment on the absurdity of the photo op and comments of Mitt Romney yesterday at a manufacturing plant in Ohio….where ole Mitt and the owner of the factory essentially said the infamous line from the title describing how bad Obama and his policies are for business. Let’s forget for now that corporate profits are at their highest level in history….I hope they can explain to me how business is doing that in an environment where they are opressed by government regulation. What old Mitt and the business owner did not disclose was that they have been the beneficiaries of government action in the form of tax abatements and subsidized government contracts that are policies of the Obama administration….”keep your damn government hands off my Medicare”….what a bunch of hypocrites….
Well…it has been a nice day so far with another great lunch with T and since it’s raining, I’m going to take the day off from riding the bike and to try to not feel guilty about it. Even though there have been some events in politics that I could comment on, I just haven’t been able to work up the outrage necessary to put together a long one. Okay, there is one that I will drop a short one on…the self-destruction and implosion of ole Newt’s presidential campaign and the smile it brought to my face…the whole thing was just an exercise in narcissism that pointed out that Newt is great at talking and telling people what to do but when it comes to actually doing the work necessary to govern, he just doesn’t want to get his hands dirty and wants to act like the political elite he inveighs against constantly. Who else but one of the elites could have a 500K charge account at Tiffany’s? Oh, I do have another…ole Mitt working across our state claiming that he was the first one to suggest that the auto industry should be saved…but that’s not what he said, he said that the auto companies should be required to go through a non-structured bankruptcy that likely would have resulted in the liquidation of Chrysler and possibly that of GM and the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs. He was against the government help that preserved all those good, middle class jobs, just as he did running his venture capital company that was responsible for the destruction of many more jobs than he ever created….not to mention hundreds of millions in profit he put in his own pocket that would have saved a lot of those jobs. Flip flopping again, eh, Mitt?
