The republicans vision…

Well..if we want to see the republicans vision in action, all we have to do is look at the state of Texas and the latest attack on schools there…on top of the 4 billion dollars that was chopped out of education in the latest budget, there is now a commission appointed by Rick Perry that is deciding on whether to give the companies that own the oil refineries there refunds on their taxes to pay for upgrades in their pollution controls. Now, let me get this straight…Perry and his cronies are going to give some of the most profitable companies in the world tax breaks to pay for something they are responsible for and shift the burden to the children and college students of Texas? This is class warfare and corporate welfare at it’s worst…what would happen if a regular citizen were to ask for tax breaks to buy a new car since is old one pollutes more than a new one? The repub establishment would be red-faced, screaming socialism, and lecturing the citizen that he or she needs stand on their own…that they can’t come to government to fix their problems. But it’s a different story when your big political donor comes with it’s hand out….that is the distilled vision that the repubs have for America…geez…

Wandering again….

Well…there are a bunch of things that I want to comment on…or maybe just a couple of things….the first is the reaction of the crowd at the repub debate that clapped and cheered when a question concerning the 263 people Texas has executed in rick Perry’s tenure there…really, cheering for someone dying? Even when it has been shown that many of them were mistakenly convicted? This just shows you the type of neanderthals that inhabit the repub party these days…and what we have to look forward to if these thugs are elected. Then, we have ole Rick calling Social Security a “Ponzi scheme” that he would like to eliminate….even Romney the flip flopper wouldn’t bite on that nonsense…

One other thing…not political but pretty cool nonetheless…a Great Blue Heron has taken up residence in one of the retention ponds along M-6 and it is just the coolest looking bird…and this was the third day he was there…brightened up my day for sure….there might be more later if I don’t hang out with T…..

Texas for sale…

well…as time goes by in this primary season, more and more facts are coming to light about how Rick Perry has sold Texas into one of the greatest states for crony capitalism….in the Post today, there is an article that has found the fact that 34 of the governor’s top 50 donors received tax breaks, state contracts, or appointment to regulatory boards in Texas; a huge extension of the culture of “pay to play” that has been rampant under his administration. Didn’t we have enough of this type of crap under Bush/Cheney with Halliburton and the rest of the connected businesses stealing billions from the American people? Then, we have ole Rick out on the stump shouting that only private business creates jobs, that government can’t do it…then, why do we have ole Rick doling out millions and millions of taxpayer dollars to businesses to have them build manufacturing plants in Texas? Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy…..if you want to know what not to do on the federal level…just look at what ole Rick is doing in Texas….

It’s Monday and Rick Perry is still an idiot…

Well…I am just laughing my butt off listening to rick Perry continue to take credit for job growth out of one side of his mouth and then attack big government with the other…..when one of the primary drivers of that growth has been the doubling of federal spending there over the past 5 years because they have a lopsided amount of military bases there….now, what would the job growth be here in Michigan if the federal government poured 200 billion dollars a year into construction projects, military bases, and prisons? Doesn’t he know we can look this stuff up? I’ve had just about enough of these repub nutjobs being allowed to lie and say anything they want without the media calling them on it…where are the reporters that should be asking the tough questions and putting a stop to this nonsense?

Then we have wonderful ole Michelle Bachmann who told an audience in Florida yesterday that the earthquake and hurricane were messages from god and that Washington needs to change it’s ways…so, Michelle, god is now setting policy for the US?….just this one statement should be enough to have her laughed off the national stage….where is Walter Cronkite when we need him….or Edward R. Murrow….geez…

One last thing about ole Rick…in his book and in many of his campaign stops he has repeatedly said that government is the problem….kind of a strange thing for a person to say that has spent his entire life in government feeding from the public trough…just another repub hypocrite….

Still no big topic…

Well…I am still trying to find a big topic for today but until then, I think I’ll just do some short ones again….I find it funny that Rick Perry is now the repub frontrunner…it makes me think of a pack of dogs that are shown a new ball and immediately drop the old one to play with the new one…I think they are easily distracted by shiny new objects and, for some reason, that Texas tough-guy nonsense resonates with the righties. As they say in Texas…”that boy is all hat and no cattle”…hmmmmm….what else….I wonder when the repubs are going to blame hurricane Irene on Obama? I wonder when Obama is going to start being a democrat again? I wonder when George Will is going to get a brain? He asserts that because the dems didn’t take back the senate in Wisconsin, that liberals are going to constantly be defeated….George, do you know that Ohio exists? There, the liberals that you hate so much have put the Kasich nonsense about union stripping on the ballot for the voters to decide on…and the polling shows that over 60% of the population there want the repub ideas repealed….and Kasich is now trying to negotiate to keep this measure off the ballot. So, no matter what ole George says…we are coming back in 2012 and might just make the repubs a permanent minority…we can all hope…

One last thing…Greg Sargent at the Washington Post took ole George to task for the outright lies that are in his column today….the only way that the Wisconsin repubs got elected was that they concealed what they were going to do….if they would have campaigned on their union busting attack on the middle class, there is no way they would have been elected…and that is the truth George…

Back to the idiot Rick Perry…

Well….have a couple of things that I want to talk about and, as I said, Rick Perry is going to be fun…first, I still marvel at the way the repubs keep chanting “get government out of the way”, but in Texas, over 500 million dollars of “government money” has been handed out to Perry’s cronies that are his biggest campaign contributors; a “pay for play system” that says that if you are not ready to give millions to Perry’s political campaign, stay out of Texas because you won’t get any government contracts. Politicians used to go to jail for that kind of stuff and now it is held up as a miracle? Now, we have the idiot stand up and calling Obama the greatest job killer in the history of the country….never bothering to do the math that more jobs were lost in the last year of ole GW’s term than there has been in Obama’s term…so how are you going to blame that on Obama? That companies were cutting jobs in anticipation of Obama getting elected? Just more nonsense from another Texan who was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple….geez….

Wandering, wandering, wandering….

Well…haven’t been able to come up with one topic to fill this thing so I think I’ll just muse a little and wander around in my head a bit….I just love ole Rick Perry….as I said a few days back, he is going to be a hoot commenting on over the next year or so and yesterday, he did not disappoint. He told a youngster in new England that they teach creationism in Texas schools….something that is illegal in the US…nice job, Rick, you don’t even know what is going on in your state…how are you going to run the country? Okay, that one sounded better in my head but you get the idea….

I did want to talk about cars a little today…it has been on my mind for a couple of days. What was your first car? I still remember my white 1962 Comet that I inherited when my father died…144 cubic inch straight six with a three on the tree as we used to call it…the laws back then would let you get your license on the day you turned 16 and take off in your car with no restrictions that same day…and that’s what I did…it was so cool to get in that thing and go…and gas was only 24 cents a gallon so the 55 cents an hour I made at the Dog and Suds in Ada would pay for both gas and beer….can you remember pulling into a gas station and asking for a bucks worth? The next car was the family wagon…a 55 Ford that I took over after the Comet died…but that’s another one for later….

Rick Perry is going to be fun…

Well…two days on the campaign trail and we have the first of what I expect to be many gaffes coming from our latest Texas tragedy, Rick Perry. This idiot came out a a couple of days ago with one of the most telling statements of the strategy of the repubs to keep the economy in the tank until the 2012 elections when he said that if the Fed did anything to help the economy in an election year it would be akin to treason and that Bernanke would not be treated well if he came to Texas. So, Rick, because there is an election over a year away, we should do nothing to help people get back to work and ease their financial distress because it may help Obama get elected? We can see that the repubs are no longer even lying about caring about anyone but the rich and powerful that buy them elections and that Rick Perry is just another underachiever who thinks that the minimum wage jobs that he has created in Texas is a template for the rest of the country in the repubs race to turn the US into another Mexico or China…geez….

Oh, one last thing…where are the jobs gov Snyder?

Rick Perry and jobs….

Well..now that Rick Perry is in the repub race, I thought I’d do a preemptive strike against his boasts that he is a job creator that can do a better job than Obama has done is this nasty recession. I laugh because he is trying to tie the creation of jobs in Texas on his watch to the same old tired repub lines of tax cuts and union busting. What has really happened is that the run up in oil prices has added the only jobs that have been created in his term, oil related jobs…yep…and as I have said before, that means that everyone else in the country has subsidized these jobs by paying more for gas and oil…basically, the entire state of Texas is only growing because of the corporate welfare that the rest of us pay to the companies based there. So, the next time you hear this right wing religious zealot talk about his success, take away the accident of oil in the ground there and you have the same no growth policies that have never worked and will never work….but that doesn’t matter to the repubs….
