Well….had a nice morning and prime rib for lunch and I thought I’d come back for a couple of minutes and just noodle around a bit….it’s been kind of a trying week or so and I’m not sure why…have been really tired lately and it is showing up in dead legs on the bike…oh, well…there hasn’t been any trail weirdness to report or any dreams either, and I am getting kind of concerned with that…something is out of whack and I’m not sure how to fix it…so I won’t think about it for now…
Oh, there is one thing in politics that I find funny…what is the state of the republican party when even George Will is going after other republicans? In his column yesterday..or today, I’m not sure…ole George went after Newt for his crazy assed attacks on the judicial branch of the government….something that I commented on a few days ago and, even though it’s very seldom that I agree with or even read one of George’s columns, it was good to see some sanity from the right for a change. But, I would prefer that they stay as crazy as they are….because then the only constituency they will have left will be the tinfoil-hat crowd….
Well…I am still trying to find a big topic for today but until then, I think I’ll just do some short ones again….I find it funny that Rick Perry is now the repub frontrunner…it makes me think of a pack of dogs that are shown a new ball and immediately drop the old one to play with the new one…I think they are easily distracted by shiny new objects and, for some reason, that Texas tough-guy nonsense resonates with the righties. As they say in Texas…”that boy is all hat and no cattle”…hmmmmm….what else….I wonder when the repubs are going to blame hurricane Irene on Obama? I wonder when Obama is going to start being a democrat again? I wonder when George Will is going to get a brain? He asserts that because the dems didn’t take back the senate in Wisconsin, that liberals are going to constantly be defeated….George, do you know that Ohio exists? There, the liberals that you hate so much have put the Kasich nonsense about union stripping on the ballot for the voters to decide on…and the polling shows that over 60% of the population there want the repub ideas repealed….and Kasich is now trying to negotiate to keep this measure off the ballot. So, no matter what ole George says…we are coming back in 2012 and might just make the repubs a permanent minority…we can all hope…
One last thing…Greg Sargent at the Washington Post took ole George to task for the outright lies that are in his column today….the only way that the Wisconsin repubs got elected was that they concealed what they were going to do….if they would have campaigned on their union busting attack on the middle class, there is no way they would have been elected…and that is the truth George…
Well….reading the papers today, I was stuck by an opinion piece that was done by George Will asserting that Obama is breaking the law by not reporting to Congress about the activities in Libya…with ole George just apoplectic that any president, especially this one, would break the law not be held accountable. Geez, George, are you getting so old you have no memory? You were one of the cheerleaders when ole GW gutted the constitution and broke not only our laws, but international ones along with abrogating treaties with his approval of torture and the warrantless wiretapping of US citizens. Even when it was revealed that GW and his team ginned up the evidence to go to war in Iraq, you still supported him and you said not one peep that it was against the law. I am getting so tired when the rats on the right will do or say anything to try to bring down a sitting president but give the thugs on their side a free pass to lie, cheat, and steal…you are supposed to be some kind of intellectual voice from the right but right now you are just another talking point reader that has no integrity…but I guess you just fit in with all of the other hypocrites on the right….geez…
Well…read ole Georges op-ed in the newspaper this morning and I just had to laugh at his rantings against the political power that he feels is too concentrated in the executive branch….I can trump this by just one question…where the hell were you, George, when your buddy GW was growing the executive branches power more than any president in modern history. And, George, you decry this growing power now, but where were you when ole GW was using “signing statements” to reserve to the executive branch the power to ignore congress and the laws it has passed? It is just another instance of “it’s okay if it’s our guy”, but if the opposition is in control, they are going to take over the country by executive fiat. Such a disingenuous take that I think you should be ashamed, George.
The second part of this one is his assertion that “American exceptionalism is obnoxious to progressives”, no, George, I have never met or heard a progressive say that America is not exceptional…but what progressives do is live that exceptionalism…who try to make this a better country for those who don’t have money or power; to use the power inherent in this country to truly become exceptional..not last in the industrialized world in access to affordable healthcare…or in the access and affordability of higher education. What the right does, aided by shills like George, is to thump their chests just like the fratboy jocks they are and dance around shouting “we’re number one!” when it’s not true…geez…
Well…this one started to bubble after I read George Will’s column this morning where he goes on and on about the lack of self-control in the American populace and the fact that we supposedly lie to ourselves about everything….and this constant lack of self control is what is ruining the country. But, lies, obfuscation, and this lack of self control is only a problem when it is coming from individuals; when it is coming from the repub party; and it’s lies are for a political purpose, everything is just fine. Didn’t we hear this nonsense the last time the repubs were in power? That deficits don’t matter, that we can cut taxes and increase spending without any consequences? Now, they are treating facts as opinion again…calling the 230 billion dollar savings from the healthcare law (that was calculated by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office) just the “opinion” of the office…as if accounting principles now are like faith instead of math. They just loved the CBO when the numbers came up in their favor…but when the facts get in the way of their agenda, they are all too quick to discard them as partisan…think back to the Iraq war….reminds me of the lyrics to “Rocky Mountain Way” by Joe Walsh….”he’s tellin us this, he’s tellin us that, changes it every day, says it doesn’t matter….bases are loaded and Casey’s at bat, time to change the batter…”
I just want everyone to remember where “faith based” accounting led us the last time these guys were in power….two wars that were “off book” and not paid for…huge surpluses that were turned into the largest deficits in the history of the country….and a complete disdain for the truth that was not spun by their lies….fasten the seatbelts, here we go again…geez….
Okay folks..if you had any doubt of what the GOP is all about, all you have to do is open your ears and eyes and listen to the new assaults on the middle class that they have proposed in the last couple of days…first you have George Will (I know, not a legislator but he is a defacto leader and one of the “brightest” brains of the repubs) saying that there should be no more extensions of unemployment benefits for anyone since “doing so will just encourage people to stay unemployed”. Okay George, who in their right mind would chose to lose their house, medical benefits, and everything else they’ve worked for just to get a measley 300 dollars a week? Where the hell are those jobs they are not taking? I’d really like to know since I could use one as could many other people I know..one who is going to lose his house because you and your repub buddies are so worried now about the deficit. Where were you when you and all of your rich, repub cronies were getting millions in tax cuts that you knew were going to put the country in the red and you didn’t care…you got yours so the hell with everyone else.
And now we have Boehner today saying that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan should be paid for by pushing the eligibility for social Security back to 70 and then means testing for anyone to get any money at all. Now, you know how these guys are about taxes, doesn’t he realize this is one of the largest tax increases in history if his plan is followed? Oh, but is not a tax on his beloved corporations but on the middle class so that is okay in his eyes. It is just another way to minimize the importance of Social Security and for the repubs to get what has been their goal since the 30′s; the elimination of any and all safety nets for everyday people…just listen to their senate candidate from Nevada, Sharron Angle, who has stated that Social security should be eliminated and everyone should be on their own.
I sit here amazement that anyone listens to George Will or John Boehner anymore…they are despicable people that need to go away and take their ideas with them….geez….
What you never want to be….
