March 21st

Well….it was an okay day yesterday and I won at pool so that was cool…slept okay last night and had some undefined dreams that I don’t remember so they must not have been too good…feel okay this morning but like I’m in a lower gear and I think I’m going to revel in that for a while….I do have to work on the bike before I go out today but I think I’ll wait a while for the temp to come up….I really don’t like riding with the full thermasuit but the weather is not cooperating…I mean only one day over 60 in all of March? Oh, well….not much to do today…I do have a big pork roast to cook today but that is about it….soccer, too…but not much else…more later…

March 20th

Well…it was an okay day yesterday and I did get a few things done….slept okay last night but feel a little crappy since I was not good and I’m not sure I like it that much….the shoulder is hurting again today and I need to take some ibuprofen for it so I can play pool today….can barely lift it again and I’m not sure why…didn’t do anything that would irritate the tendon and I am hoping that it is not the normal spring thing where the tendonitis moves around to different joints…the last one was the elbow thing that lasted all summer….not much to do today…need to get a bike ride in but with how brutal yesterday’s was, I am not that enthused about it….have never gotten shin splints from riding before but I did yesterday…and huge cramps in my feet, too…stopped running just for those reasons…more later…

Music in advertising…

Well…I have talked to Tom about this before but I had to get it down here since it is something that I am a little amazed about…and that is the use of certain kind of songs in advertising….the first time this struck me was a Ford ad that used a Deep Purple song “‘On the highway stoned”…now I wonder if anyone listened to that before the made the ad…and they even left the lyrics in that one that you could hear plainly playing as the cars were driving across the screen…probably not the message that they wanted to convey. Then, I just heard a shoe company using “Who are you?” by the Who which is about a drunken night where the lyrics talk about passing out in a Soho doorway and getting in a drunken brawl….and now I will always connect drinking with that shoe company….and the last one that just came on is the use of the Who’s “Eminence Front” as the background for a GMC commercial when the song is about how people are getting screwed and used by the institutions and people that they believed in…maybe that one is appropo for GM…not sure….geez…

No more money for defense…

Well…repub budget is out and guess what? Of course, they want to cut every program that benefits the middle class and poor here in the US so they can give more, and more, and more to the military/industrial complex. I, for one, have had enough of this continually increasing money for war while the rest of us can’t even get out roads repaired or get healthcare. The US spends more money on defense than the next 20 countries combined and you cannot tell me that this is necessary…the Russians, who the repubs are so scared of only spend about 60 billion a year on their military so why the hell are we willing to spend almost 500 billion on ours? It is time to stop building war machines and start building this country again before all of our bridges fall down and we stop educating our people…geez…

March 19th

Well…it was an okay day yesterday but I didn’t get much done…again…but, I didn’t have much to do so I guess that works out…,slept okay…okay for me that is, and another night of being completely good is not having the effect I expected…I should have lots of energy but I don’t and I think it’s from not getting enough calories still…haven’t been able to shift from starvation mode that I was in when I couldn’t ride the bike but today I plan on fixing that…bought a 10 pound pork roast from the off brand store out here for 10 bucks so I have protein that should last a couple of weeks…going to just whack a little off it for lunch today and then do a big roast Saturday…I have been getting out on the bike and have almost a hundred miles on it already this year…need to do 2413 miles to get to 25,000 on this bike this year and that would be a little accomplishment anyway….not much to do today…resumes, and more resumes but that is about it…I do need to do the spider patrol today and get rid of some of the cobwebs but that is about it…running short of cash so it looks like some hermitting is in order…more later…

More lies from the right on the minimum wage…

Well…I know that the right hates anyone but the rich getting anything in the US and they have lied and lied about the effects of minimum wage increases…saying that raises eliminate jobs as businesses stop hiring..or cut jobs (which has been found to not be true in every instance)…but they just got caught out in another lie about Seattle’s 15 dollar wage that is slated to start to take effect in April…the right wing rag “The new York Post” had an editorial the other day from a couple of right wing “brains” that pounced on the fact that restaurants are closing across Seattle and they attribute it to the minimum wage that has not even taken effect yet….one little problem…they never talked to any of the owners of the restaurants that are closing to find out why….never mind that places close all the time…and open all the time…these guys just “know” that it is only the minimum wage that is causing it. When Thinkprogess talked to some of the owners that were mentioned in the Post, all of the owners said it had nothing to do with the rising MW…in fact, they all supported the rise. The one fact that the righies failed to mention is that Seattle is in the midst of a “dining boom” with many more resataurants opening than closing, with one owner, who is opening two more places this year, saying ‘opening new businesses would not be smart if they would not be successful”. So, again…the right lies, again, since they just can’t stand that someone other than them gets a leg up in the US…shame on them…

A little trail weirdness…

Well…had a funny thing happen out on the trail this morning when I was out for the bike ride…going along the M-6 trail, I came upon a turkey that was stuck between the 4 ft fences that are on both side of the trail…as I came up to him, I shouted  “run, turkey, run…” for some reason…and the turkey took off running straight down the trial in front of me for about a 100 yards until he got tired and just stopped…then I just rode by him with him looking at me…kind of weird…but a good weird…there hasn’t really been anything else to report on  the trail until that…there have been wooly bear caterpillars all over the place but that is about it….oh, I did get the mp-3 player fixed it appears….have been out three times and it has worked the whole time…pretty cool…more later….

March 18th

Well…it was an okay day yesterday but I didn’t get much done….I did get the computer working again and I think I like Chrome for the browser…it hasn’t locked up once since I switched over and I now have it configured as I had Firefox….slept okay again and I shouldn’t have….only one more step to being totally good and I may just try that tonight….did get a full bike ride in again but in the thermasuit but it was okay the legs and lungs are coming back pretty quickly but I haven’t done any sprinting yet and that won’t come until next week…shoulder still hurts a little but it is better than yesterday but I won’t try working out today…have to wait until all of the pain is gone…not much to do today…need to get some stuff done around here today but that is about it…..more later….

Good riddance Aaron Schock…

Well….we all know that the repubs think of the government as their own personal piggybank that they use to reward themselves and their big donors with tax cuts and other largesse…but, there has been one guy over the past couple of years that has raised taking advantage of the people to an art form…Illinois rep Aaron Schock resigned today amid ethics investigations for damn near everything..his “Downton Abbey” styled office started it off then there were the private jets to go to concerts (supplied by his big donors) and getting an inflated price for a house he sold…again to one of his big donors…but that’s not the extent of it…he had his own staff photographer that he took everywhere to document his exploits and took some staffers to NYC the other month for a “conference” where he spent about two minutes shaking hands and billed the people of his district for the trip. Now….this is what the grifters on the right think government is…you do some time currying favors and amassing dark money waiting for the time that they can get the big payday as a lobbyist when they leave congress….but you have to at least make it appear you’re doing some work for the people you represent…this guy just couldn’t be bothered with that…good riddance…geez…

Some updates….

Well…the computer crap got so bad this morning that I had to abandon Firefox and go over to Chrome just to see if that would help……haven’t had any script errors yet so maybe it will work out….Chrome seems to be a little slower, though, but I can handle that if I don’t have to continually take the battery out of the computer to get it to restart…so far, so good….my shoulder was good this morning until, like an idiot, I tried to work out and re-injured it…not as bad as the original injury but it hurts again and that is a pain…and I have pain between my shoulder blades that I didn’t have before but I think that is from sleeping with my should elevated…okay…need to get a bike ride in before soccer this aft so I’ll end here…just hope Chrome keeps working…

What you never want to be….
