Isn’t that wrong?

Well….as the repub tax scam’s effects continue to be reported by the press, a little noted news item from yesterday really rams home how unfair it really is…and I am going to make this a little personal. It was reported that Amazon is not going to pay a penny in taxes on income of over 5.6 billion dollars….yep, not one damn dime on 5.6 billion dollars in income…isn’t that wrong? Isn’t it wrong that all of you reading this are going to have to pay taxes and Amazon doesn’t? We all know that the tax code is slanted to favor the rich and business, but this latest cut, passed by repubs, makes that slant even higher, allowing many companies in this country to not pay anything…wouldn’t it be nice if some of that “trickled down” to you and me? I guess I shouldn’t bitch too much since Amazon and I paid the same amount of taxes to the feds this year…but, I paid some to Michigan so my taxes were higher than Amazon’s this year…isn’t that wrong? Yep….geez…

Mitt’s tax problem…

Well…Just a short one on the whole “47% of the people don’t pay taxes” flap that came from the callous comment that Romney made…it made me think of another comment that ole Mitt made a few months back when he was pressed on the fact that he only pays 14% in income taxes and his response was that he was paying everything that the tax code requires and not a penny more. The sad thing is that he then makes the 47% comment when those people that don’t pay federal income taxes are doing exactly the same thing…they are following the tax code that allows them to not pay these federal taxes. So, what is perfectly okay for a rich guy like ole Mitt is wrong when the middle or lower class does it? Just another example where Mitt is amoral. saying anything to appeal to whoever he is talking to with no consistency or core…geez…

Is ole Mitt delusional?

Well…this is going to be a short one to comment on one of the more delusional statements made in the past few weeks by ole Mitt…his latest attack after the Sotu speech by Obama was that Obama was “out of touch” with real Americans…okay, if you’re not laughing about that comment, you have no sense of irony…let’s go back and look at some of ole Mitt’s comments…first, we have the $10,000 dollar bet with Rick Perry at one of the debates…next, we have ole Mitt saying that almost $400K of income from speeches is “not much”, and then we have the statements that he pays all of the taxes he owed under the tax code and “not a dollar more”…when it is well know that he was running Bain capital when they (and others in the venture capital business) lobbied congress and bought themselves the law that allows them to pay less a percentage of taxes on income than anyone in the 99%. So, I’ll contend here that ole Mitt is the one that is out of touch, that he is the one who has no damn idea of what it is like to be 58 years old with too much education to find a job in this economy….go back to where you came from, Mitt…this country doesn’t need silver spoon people like you telling me how to think about the state of the country and economy…geez…

I was right about Romney…

Well…if you were here a few days back, you heard me make the assertion that one of the reasons that ole Mitt wasn’t releasing his tax returns was that it was going to reveal a dirty little secret of those whose income is derived from investment; not from wages….that those who live off securities and investment income only pay about 15% of their income in taxes…and that is exactly what happened today when ole Mitt’s campaign revealed just that. Now, I don’t know about you, but I just don’t think it’s right or fair that the 1% can buy tax laws that allow them to avoid paying their fair share while the rest of us pay 25% or more..even in my case, where I am living on savings from my lifetime of work and I pay more than the multi-millionaire Mitt…c’mon Mitt…let’s see the pretzel you are going to twist yourself into trying to justify these facts….I hope you can now understand why the 99% is so pissed off…geez…

Ole Mitt and his tax returns…

Well…just have to comment on the new flap over the refusal of ole Mitt to release his tax returns…and you and I know why that is…I’m sure they are going to show that this person who has over 250 million dollars is not paying his fair share of taxes like the rest of us. You can see that this will be the case if they are ever released since much of his holdings are in tax havens like the Cayman Islands where his rate will be around 15%…when was the last time you paid only 15% in taxes on your wages? Never is the answer…and that is the problem with people like ole Mitt…the rich are treated differently in this country and it is just that sense of entitlement that is rife in the 1%’ers that is shown in his campaign…he has felt since he was little that he was owed a Harvard education, that it was his birthright to have whatever elected office he chooses….that’s elitism at it’s worst. geez….

What’s wrong with the rich?

Well….as I sit here and think about the news over the past few weeks a question comes to mind: “What’s wrong with the rich?” When did they become so greedy and self-centered that they lost any pretense of caring about anyone but themselves? This post was kind of spurred on by the recent report that the super rich in this country have an average tax rate that is below 17%. Let’s put that in perspective using my own situation as an example….I took 15 k out of my IRA last year just to pay my rent and keep food on the table and my tax rate was over 25%…yep, someone that is barely making ends meet is paying more percentage in taxes than billionaires, and this is on money that I earned and saved over my working career. But, you won’t hear me bitch about paying taxes; they are necessary to maintain our social contract and make this a better society for everyone…not just the rich. I find it so funny that these people will spend millions and millions of dollars buying repubs to write them favorable laws but will balk at paying for the infrastructure and military that allow them to make those outrageous sums of money. Why are they so un-American? But, it’s not just the rich that are at fault here…it’s our fault for voting for people that are nothing more than shills for business and that lie like they breathe….who don’t believe that there should be a shared responsibility for the welfare of our country…should we be surprised? Nope, most of the legislators we now have are millionaires that are there for one thing and one thing only…to line their pockets and tell us that a greater America is no longer possible; that the poor and middle class are leeches that will be better off if the safety nets that have kept millions of seniors and unemployed out of poverty are gone. Is that the vision that you or I share? I sure hope not…geez…

Nolan Finley is still an idiot…

Well…if you’ve been here before, you know one of my favorite, recurring targets is Nolan Finley, who writes a column for the Detroit News….the right wing leaning newspaper I read every morning…yeah, I know, you ask yourself why, why do I read this paper when you know that I am a progressive? Look, I need to know what the repub talking points are and I can be sure that the point of the day will be in the News…usually led by brother Nolan. This mornings’ column is a screed that goes off on Obama’s speech yesterday that proposed letting the Bush tax cuts expire for those who make over 250 K a year, and he goes on that it would be unfair since the top 1% already pay 30% of the taxes paid in the US. He continues that the top 10% pay 73% of the taxes paid and it is unfair for them to pay more when 47% of the filers pay no taxes at all. Nolan, Nolan, Nolan….you do forget to mention that the top 10% get over 90% of the total income in this country…do the math….that means that the rich are not paying their fair share but are finding ways to buy a favorable tax code through donations to the repubs…..and to your second point, the reason that 47% of the people pay no taxes is the repubs policies from Saint Reagan to now have decimated the middle class and incomes for all of the middle class and poor have dropped to the point that they are now approaching the poverty level.

I don’t think Nolan and his repub cronies will be happy until they steal all of America…it is a question of fairness and of vision, what kind of country do we want? Where the repubs can excoriate the middle class for becoming poor and not paying taxes while our richest corporations use their power and money to do the same? Geez….I may be back to add to this one later…but I am so irritated by this idiots ramblings that I am having trouble being lucid….
