Well…with the tsunami of stupidity that is coming out of the right these days…the candidates over there are doing their best to out stupid each other…not sure if it’s on purpose or not but this week ole JEB! even managed to mangle the days talking points and it is hilarious. At a speech the other day, JEB! was going on about the proposed new overtime rules that would prevent companies from classifying regular workers as management to avoid having to pay them overtime…and JEB! said that it would be bad for workers since employers would just cut their hours and then they would make less money…hmmm…cut hours that they are not getting paid for? Sounds like a good thing for workers to me since they are not getting paid for them anyway….but not to JEB! he still thinks that employers should be allowed to bully workers and steal from them…that’s the way of American business…at least the way the repubs see business being done…don’t pay your workers what they have worked for…poor business owners…I’m crying crocodile tears for them…geez….
One of the funny things I saw when reading of this was the pundits saying that he must really be trying to appear this stupid…I don’t think he’s trying at all…I think it comes naturally to him…
Well…I was going to wait on this one until tomorrow but I sat down here and thought I’d do it now…the latest ‘scandal” that the repubs have decided to manufacture against the president is over his commutation or pardon of 40 some non violent drug offenders over the past week…this set off the house Judiciary committee to the point that they sent the White House a letter saying that they wanted more details on why this was done and they wanted it now! Well…these “constitutional scholars” must have never read the constitution since the presidents power on commutations and pardons is absolute, with only one thing, impeachment, being outside the bounds of this power. And, since this power is spelled out in the constitution, it can’t be questioned and is not subject to the “oversight” that these idiots in the house say it is…again, this is just another incidence where, since the hated black guy does it, it must be wrong…never heard a peep when ole GW pardoned the liar Scooty Libby who kept Karl Rove out of jail by lying his ass off with the quid pro quo that he would only do a little time and then he could go back to his life…I am just so damn tired of these asses…
Well…have been meaning to do this one for a long time…at least since I read about it last week….as you know, there is a crisis with college debt in this country with many people coming out owing in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for a bachelor’s degree…but wait, ole Marco has a solution to that problem…and that is…drumroll please, to find a rich person and sell yourself to them…yep, ole Marco doesn’t want to make it more affordable…nope that’s not the repub way…he actually said that you should sell yourself to a rich person by having them pay for your college and then you owe them 10% of your wages for the rest of your life. Man, I don’t know if he has read any history in his life, but that kind of thing was called indentured servitude and it was outlawed many years ago….I can just see it now, you sell yourself and then that rich person controls your life forever….want to take a different job…have to check with the slaveowner, want to move to another state, check with your slaveowner…you get the drift….I am astounded by the stupidity of these people….geez…
Well…can a rich guy get any further out of touch with anyone who actually has to work for a living that ole Jeb!? I am so fricking tired of rich people who have never had to work a day in their lives trying to tell us how to better ourselves and get ahead…the other day ole Jeb! came out and said that American workers need to work longer hours and through their productivity gain more income for their families…exactly how do you do that Jeb!? All of the productivity gains of the past 20 years has gone to the top 1% while wages have been stagnant…how would the worker get a share of those gains, a union perhaps? Nope, that is not how to do it…you’re just supposed to work more hours (never mind that US workers already work more hours than in any industrialized country) and then hope all that productivity trickles down into better wages, or full time jobs…but that’s not what the 1% want…they want temp and part time workers they don’t have to pay benefits to…what’s your policy plan to make that happen Jeb!? I have had enough of blaming workers for their plight when the blame belongs to people like ole Jeb! and his cronies who have rigged the system and weakened unions to the point that the workers have no power anymore…just go back to your boardrooms and shut the hell up…geez..
Well…it has been an interesting time since Bernie Sanders announced he was running for president and the momentum he has gotten is truly remarkable….the press has even named it “Bernimentum” when they describe it. While this is just another shallow attempt by the press to be funny, the momentum is real, as evidenced by the 10,000 people who showed up to see him in Madison the other day and the thousands who turned out in Iowa…and the three times his visit to Portland, Maine has be moved to larger venues. One of the reasons that I see this happening is that he has ideas to pull the country back from the oligarchy that is running it now and to make the middle class and how they are getting screwed the centerpiece of his campaign. The cool thing is that he truly believes this stuff…and has been consistent throughout his political career on these issues….that is the thing about us on the left, we want talk about issues and their solutions while the right just parrots crap from the Heritage Institute and the Koch brothers….this is a good thing for our side…people are tiring of the tax cuts for the rich nonsense that is the only solution that the right can come up with it…and that doesn’t work…could be a fun year….
Well…I know that economics are not a topic that most people will voluntarily read but there is an interesting thing going on in
Europe with the Greek debt “crisis”….and it is the hypocrisy that the Germans are showing in regard to Greece’s debt… as we all know now, austerity does not grow economies and usually hurts them worse when they are in a recession, but that is exactly what the Germans want for Greece…more austerity so they can pay back their debt…but to see the hypocrisy of this action, you only need to look at what happened to Germany in the 50’s, when they were swimming in debt. At that time, economists actually used facts to set policy….not ideology as is being done now. Back then, economists looked at the debt situation that faced Germany and realized that they would destroy their economy if they would have to pay back their massive debt they incurred rebuilding the country…so what did the world do? They basically wiped out the debt that Germany owed and allowed them to become the economic power they are today….so what would be wrong with doing the same thing for Greece? Many, many countries have had their debt forgiven across the years and not one time did it cause a meltdown in the world economy…in fact there was usually some benefits in the removal of the constant crisis and restoration of confidence in the future. That’s what should be done with Greece right now…wipe out their debt and give them a chance to get back to normalcy….geez…
Well…no politics again today but there have been lots of laughable stuff going on with the right twisting themselves into knots trying to not comply with the marriage equality rulings from the supreme court….but, ole Bobby Jindal got slapped down by the courts today telling his state that they have to issue licenses…once that happened, ole Bobby, who has been blustering all week that he would never let the marriages happen, just disappeared…funny for someone who is running for president…but, really, is this guy so delusional that he believes he can get the repub nomination? Never, ever, going to happen…his approval ratings in his own state are down in the 20’s and that is never going to get you elected to anything….okay, I did have a political one in me today…yay!
Well…it has been a long day that has been filled with lots of crazy on the right…leading the way was ole Ted Cruz who just ratcheted it up to eleven over the weekend with his comment on marriage equality…where the hell do they find these guys? Ole Ted just went off on the supreme court, saying that he has an idea to “fix” it by making the justices run for some kind of an election every eight years…something like a vote of no confidence…who knows what the hell this guy means about anything. Then he goes on to say that when elected president (yeah, that one made me laugh, too) he will push for a constitutional amendment ensuring that a group of his fellow citizens have their rights taken away from them…but, I don’t think he understands the process that takes….2/3rds of each house of congress would have to vote for it…and then 37 states would have to ratify it through their legislatures…listen to me…never, ever going to happen, but the rubes that he is playing to will eat this crap up and think it’s the best idea ever. I just shake my head….
Well…having had the weekend to digest the supreme court’s decisions of the past week and to read the dissents, all I can say is that the losers are just typical repubs…throwing a fit and attacking their peers when they don’t get their way…just to read Thomas, Alito, and Scalia in their dissents, they are nothing but personal attacks and intentional misreading or ignoring the law…what don’t they understand about the 14th amendment? Equal protection under the law…very simple for someone who hasn’t studied the law to understand and apply….in the gay marriage case, how can you not see that there was a group of US citizens that were being denied the rights that everyone else has? But, no, not for the haters on the court who tried to twist the law to their own warped view of what should be..and centering not on what the law says but on what their religions say or what tradition says…neither of which has any place in reading the law and interpreting it. Now, the right is going frickin crazy about their fellow citizens finally have equal rights and have threatened everything under the sun to go against the law from secession to trying to put unconstitutional roadblocks in the way in the state legislatures…typical repubs…crybaby sore losers…
Well…it is another great day and another great decision by the supreme court when, just a few minutes ago, the court made gay marriage legal across the country….striking down one of the most egregious bits of discrimination that is still left in the country. One of the best things about this decision is that was on a broad reading of the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment which will then lead to ending discrimination in hiring and firing and every other mode of discrimination that the idiots out there have dreamed up….I applaud the supreme court for dong what is right…it had to go this way…
