New equipment….

Well….it has been a busy day and I did get a bunch of stuff done…..I am still working on stuff right now and I have been going since I got up at 6:30….but, that’s not what this one is about…I bought some new equipment today…my computer has been screaming at me for a couple of weeks now that it was low on memory so I bit the bullet and bought a new add on hard drive today….I can’t believe how cheap these things are…59 bucks for a terabyte drive….even after transferring everything I still have 925 gigs left on the thing…we’ll see how it works out but the thing is about the size of a deck of cards…and that’s not even solid state…it’s a platter type but I don’t care…pretty cool…and yes, this is a filler to get caught up…

New speed records….

Well…it been a busy day but I did need to record that I hit two new speed records on the bike this morning…..of course it was wind aided but it was still cool…okay, here it is….31.2 mph pedaling and 39.3 top speed at the bottom of the hill…yeah, 39 mph is really fast on the bike especially through the curves that are at the bottom of the hill…I’m not sure I can go any faster…just not enough gear to pedal any faster…might have to try it sometime with the road bike just to see if I can beat it…pretty cool….

May 27th

Well…it was an okay day yesterday got a few things done but need to continue that today with getting the papers out and I counted 16 spiders in the bathroom today so that’s a few over my limit…will need to get rid of them today and do some cleaning….need to wash the car, too, so I will have some tasks for the day….slept okay and was good last night so I feel okay this morning other than the back hurting again….will take an ibuprofen in a minute to make sure the bike ride is not too painful….the ride yesterday was a good one and I came back soaked completely through…didn’t hurt after that so I am a little confused on why it hurts today…have had three days of no leg pain so having it come back is a little disappointing…not much to do today…just going to hang out and get a few small things done but that is about it…more later…

Jeb loves this guy…

Well…when asked last week what author has had the biggest impact on him, ole Jeb said Charles Murray…the guy who wrote “The Bell Curve” that posited that black people are genetically less intelligent than everyone else and has recently published a new book “By the People: Rebuilding Liberty Without Permission” that basically says that since people are too stupid to agree with conservative principles and won’t make them law, rich people should challenge the ones they don’t like in court until the government gives up governing. Yep, ole Jeb loves a guy that hates America so much that he is willing to destroy it if he and his ilk don’t get their way like damn little children….if there was any question that ole Jeb is not too bright….here’s the answer…geez…

May 26th

Well…running a little late today and I just can’t get motivated to get going….slept okay last night and I’m not sore this morning which is really weird…tired, but not sore and I guess that is progress….had a really nice lunch with T yesterday and that raised my spirits a bunch along with making some cash….didn’t get anything else done so today I have to summon some discipline and get at least one thing done….kitchen, probably, or dusting since it is getting thick in here…and the spiders are taking over the bathroom again so there are many things to do….need to check the radar to see if I can get the ride in before the storms that are coming…I look forward to that with all of the birds that are targeting my car…..not much to do today…and that is true…just frickin cleaning…ugh…more later….

Military overload….

Well…after enduring all of the sad stories and military worshiping during every US race yesterday, I wonder if anyone else is getting tired of it? Not tired of being thankful for the military but if I hear anyone else say “protecting our freedom” again I am going to scream. Saying that the soldiers that died in Iraq and Afghanistan were “protecting our freedom” does a great disservice to those who died in WWII and obfuscates what protecting freedom really is. After all, none of the countries in the middle east that we invaded where our soldiers were killed was a threat to us at all…I know, bin Laden was in Afghanistan but once he wasn’t, why the hell are we still there? The only thing I got from all of the military porn during the last week is “how come the guys that ordered these illegal wars are not in jail?” They should sit the repubs down that want even more “military action” and make them watch every story that I did over the past week to make them understand the human toll that their recklessness has cost….and we have to stop these endless wars so no more stories of our brave soldiers dying have to be told….that would honor the dead more than any flyover at any Nascar race would do…geez…

May 25th

Well…it was an okay day yesterday and I got the bike ride in without pain for the first time in a long time…not sure why that is but they don’t hurt this morning, either, so maybe they are healing…slept okay last night and that makes the other night even more confusing….but, I’ll take that one, too….didn’t get a lot done yesterday but that was the plan with all of the races that were on…today looks much the same but I may have lunch with T and that will brighten the day up some…going to try to get out on the bike this morning if the rain holds off a little while longer…but, it is so warm already that even if the rain is light I may just go anyway….that’s about it…need to get the workout started so I’ll have time for the bike….more later….

Some sports…and other stuff…

Well…just got back from riding the bike and my legs are much better than yesterday…I feel so much better than yesterday so I guess I’ll just take that…and, I have only 1800 more miles to go to get to 25K on this bike and that is something of an accomplishment…kinda…the race from Manaco was marred by a huge blunder by Lois Hamilton’s team…I mean he’s in the lead with 10 laps to go…a yellow comes out and they bring him into the pits for some reason…everyone else stays out and he loses the race…I am still shaking my head about that one…Indy was better than I expected with lots of passing at the end…making for an exciting finish…I did take a short nap during the race even with it being exciting….but, I am still tired with no sleep last night…now, back to the couch for some water….

May 24th

Well…sitting here waiting for the F1 race to start and thought I’d get this done before the all day races start…slept really crappy last night…was up 15 times so I guess it just wasn’t worth it…will be taking a nap later for sure…still sore from riding so I think I’ll take today off and let the legs heal….my back still hurts, too, and I had a thought that it may be a bug but I don’t think there is any flu going around….I do feel much better than yesterday so that’s progress….not much to do today…it’s races and Man U all day so that’s it…more later….

Machinery….

Well…going to change things up today and not write about politics as I usually do, but about something that popped into my head yesterday. When shooting pool, Tom and I talk about machinery a lot and that got me thinking about why I like the Miata so much. It feels like a machine when you drive it..and there is nothing on it that isn’t necessary….not like a new or normal car that tries to do it’s best to isolate you and lull you to sleep and how you drive it really doesn’t make that much difference. But, that’s not true with the Miata…it rewards skill and paying attention and it will do things that it shouldn’t do if you get it right….I feel the same way about the other machine that I use daily…my mountain bike. When everything is adjusted right so the shifter works great it is easy to forget yourself on it and swoop along the trail with just little nudges to go left and right…about that time it stops hurting, too, and then you know you are doing it right….just a few thoughts…have I said I like machines?

What you never want to be….
