Well….I know it’s Iowa caucus time where the candidates are trying to woo the evangelical vote, but I mean, come on righties…this is even too much for you guys….first we have Ted Cruz coming out the other day and saying his religion is more important to him than the US is…now, this coming from someone who wants to be president? Does that mean he will put the christianists first instead of his oath to uphold and protect the constitution that builds a wall between church and state? Imagine if a Muslim candidate said that…he would be run out of town but this is just fine for a christian to say? Then you have the Donald saying the other day that christians are going to be running the country if he is elected…don’t they now? Oh, I guess he means that christians will be able to be open with their bigotry against everyone again…and he will use his power to subvert to constitution to cater to his christian followers…look, I have had way too much of these idiots believing that this is a christian country…we are not….and I take offense with having any religion jammed down my throat by having their religion codified into laws…just like the “blue laws” that kept almost every business closed on Sunday when I was a kid…and it was so bad here in West Michigan that we had the only McDonald’s in the country that was closed on Sunday…thanks Jenison….geez….

The circus continues…
Well…I’m sure you’ve heard about the clerk in Kentucky who was jailed for contempt of court when she refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples citing her “religious freedom” and the elevation of this bigot to hero status for the right…and the circus continues today with Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee organizing a rally to support her bigotry and hate. I guess this is to be expected since these folks don’t have any idea what the constitution says or means…the first amendment and it’s protections of religious freedom DOES NOT mean that you are free to impose your religious views on others…and that is what this case is about…this religious zealot trying to impose her interpretation of faith on the entire county by not issuing and ordering her deputies to not issue marriage licenses to gay couples…that’s it…she is free to practice her religion and not marry a woman, but she is not free to tell anyone else how to live their lives…it would be the same thing as if a Muslim person, working for the county, refused to grant a restaurant a license if they are going to serve pork ribs, in accordance to his religion…or one working for the DMV refusing to give a driver’s license to woman since his sect says women shouldn’t drive. You get my drift here…and there should never be any type of “religious accommodation” that would allow these bigots to continue to collect their pay and not do their jobs…if it means that much to them, quit, and go live your religious live somewhere else….I have no tolerance for these people any more…geez…
One more on religion…
Well…in a pretty cool coincidence…at least to me…a new poll that came out in the past week or so shows that the trend away from religion in this county appears to be accelerating, with the number of people identifying as “Christian” dropping almost 8 percent in the past 5 years while those of us who have no religion has grown by the same 8%. At this rate, in only two generations, the majority of this country will be without the scourge of religion…okay, that may be a little harsh but the way that religion is used in this country and across the world, as a sword to attack anyone who is different, I’m not sure if scourge is not a good description. One of the things that I think is driving this change here in the US is the constant whining and constant attempts of the “Christians” here in the US to jam their religion into all aspects of US life but also people are beginning to realize that “Christianity” here is all about hate and control….hating gays because of”Christians” willful misinterpretation of the bible…trying to force their religious views on women’s rights into the law that takes away women’s ability to control their own bodies while they try to ensure that gays don’t have the rights they deserve as US citizens. This hate is turning off the younger generations that religion needs to be viable over time and I, for one, think that is a good thing…as religion dies, this will ensure a return to rationality in governance…not faith, whose only place in the US should be in church…not in government…
Just saw “The Unbelievers”
Well….in a haze of boredom, I was just surfing through Netflix and came upon a documentary called “The Unbelievers” about Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss and their efforts to promote science and reason instead of the superstition that is religion. It was surprising to see some famous people who “came out” as atheists in this film but also refreshing….people like Adam Savage from Mythbusters….Penn Gillette, Cameron Diaz, Woody Allen and many other people who have embraced the idea that religion needs to go. One of the signs that I saw in the crowd at the biggest atheist rally in history in Washington summed up the contrast…”Science flies people into space…religion flies people into buildings…” Might make that my sig line over at Kos for a while….
The problem with religion in schools…
Well…reading a news story about how the chrisitanists in Louisiana are illegally allowing religion in their public schools, it points out just how far these supposed religious people will go to impose their brand of religion on everyone and use it as a weapon to intimidate those who have different religions. In a middle school in Louisiana, one teacher even goes so far as to teach her classes that the bible ” is 100% true”, and that “evolution is impossible” and that a buddhist student is stupid for not believing in her god. The response of the superintendent of schools there was even worse…when the parents complained of the teachers bullying of their son, this idiot suggested that the child “change his religion” since they live in the bible belt, or change schools…not a word about the illegality of this teacher’s action but just get he hell out of here if you are not a christian. This is what is wrong with these christian terrorists…they are no better than the Taliban who also want to impose their twisted interpretation of a religion at the point of a gun….but Louisiana uses the full force of the government to do it…I hope the ACLU will be successful in making these folks understand that the first amendment applies to them…geez…
Religion is no excuse for bigotry…
Well…have had this one rattling around in my head for a couple of days now and I’m still not sure if I can get it out and make any sense…it started with the latest gambit of the bigots on the right where they are playing the persecution card now that they have been called out on their bigotry towards gays…saying that they are just following their religion so that gives them a pass to be racists and bigots…that may be so within their religion but it doesn’t give them license to push their bigotry on the whole country. That is what they have been doing for years with DOMA, prop 8 in Cali, and the constitutional amendment here in Michigan that bans gay marriage. I, for one, am just damn sick and tired of having religion in the public sphere at all…why should my life and the lives of anyone be affected by silly assed writings done by a bunch of superstitious goatherders over 2,000 years ago….especially since all of them were cribbed from earlier writings…some from over 1500 years before Jesus was supposedly born. I have just one thing to say…if you want to live by the Bible or the teachings of the flying spaghetti monster, go ahead…just leave me out of it and stop trying to jam this crap down the throats of us who think…geez…
The crazy is strong in North Carolina…
Well….I have been thinking for a while now about doing a daily repub crazy contest but with the latest crazy coming out of the repubs in NC, it would take a long, long time to beat this one. In case you haven’t heard, the really crazy TP repubs in NC have proposed a new law that would establish a state religion (Christianity, of course) in NC and that would also, in their fevered brains, allow them to ignore any federal law or court ruling that they don’t like…proposing that the constitution does not apply to them…unless they can use the tenth amendment to nullify the rest of it. Yep, I’m not making this up…these idiots, in one breath, say that the constitution is not applicable there and they are going to ignore it…then, in the next try to use it to support their crazy. Nevermind that courts all over the country including the supreme court have ruled that federal law takes precedence over state law, and have affirmed in many, many cases that the first amendments establishment clause applies to every state. So, we have another case where ignorant repubs who have no clue what it means to govern are using the state government to push their crazy on the people of their state, not to mention enriching the law firms of their donors by hiring them to defend these blatantly unconstitutional laws….how much more of this crap do we have to listen to? Geez…
Don’t know where to start with ole Rick…
Well…I have been getting behind in doing these and it is probably because I have been worrying about money so much…but, that’s not your problem and I guess I’ll just have to deal with it…..and I really did want to get one out on ole Rick Santorum since he is just one of the most ridiculous politicians I have ever seen…it’s like a mutation has taken over the right of the repub party and that is what they are left with…a bible spouting judgment freak who has said openly he will bring religion into all aspects of governing…never mind that he continues to advocate “returning” to a strict reading of the constitution that would forbid that type of nonsense…and that there are over 30 percent of the country that either are not his brand of Christian or the 15% of us have no faith at all…what does he propose…that people be forced to agree with religious decisions that are made by the government? Just another incidence where the right screams that Obama is “taking away our freedoms” and then will do so much more to punish those they don’t agree with….just go away, Rick….and make more millions off of the government you seem to hate so much…geez…
The new religion of the right…
Well..just had this thought come to me while I was reading some of the online papers this morning but I’m not going to finish it now…just a little teaser to get you to come back…yep, not fair I know, but the idea is not fully formed yet. Here’s the question or premise…Doesn’t the right’s and tea party’s new found reverence for an unchanging constitution look like a fundamentalist religion to anyone else?
This one is not forming up as I hoped but I going to take a swing at it anyway…as it is quite well know,n most of the tea partiers; and most of the people that identify themselves as religious conservatives have beliefs that interpret the bible as literally the word of god…with no interpretation necessary or wanted. Things like the age of the earth being being around 6,00 years, that evolution is not possible because it contradicts the story of Adam and Eve…and many other stories are taken as fact by this group. I see the same type of blind faith being constructed in their interpretation of the constitution as being absolute and only taken in the context of the time it was written; not in the context of the present and a guideline for the society..purposely written vaguely to allow for growth. The question I have is “do they like to not have to think?” The true believers think all of the answers are in the bible and they never change or need to change since they are the word of god. No thinking necessary to apply the bible…just do what it says and everything will be okay. Now, the tea partiers are doing the same about the constitution…genuflecting to the document in every action they take with an unhealthy propensity to ignore the nuance of life and the varying interpretations that come with it…and to force their interpretation of in on the rest of us…just like they do about religion. I think this is a troubling development for our society…zealots of any kind lead to repression of those who don’t think like them…geez….
Christopher Hitchens…
Well…I’ve been sitting here trying to come up with a catchy title for this one and just couldn’t do it…probably shouldn’t do it owing to the seriousness of this one. If you don’t know, Chris Hitchens is a noted author, thinker and atheist whose recent book “God is not Great” was on the Times bestseller list for many weeks last year, and, who is fighting esophageal cancer with an uncertain prognosis. In an article in the Post this morning, the question was raised whether Mr. Hitchens would turn to faith now that he is facing death and his answer was a resounding no; that the sickness of religion and it’s power is based in fear..fear of the higher power and the unknown. Some of the religious who commented on the Hitchens post even went so far as to say that god gave him the cancer as punishment for his atheism. What kind of a petty, little prick of a god do these people worship? One that is so insecure that if even one person doesn’t bow to him, he smites them with disease?
I hope more people start to see what a waste of time and how stunting religion is to human growth and will join those of us that want to continue the move into the age of reason, where invisible men in the sky don’t rule over us and give us excuses for treating those who aren’t like us with contempt…..geez….
